This can be the spot on anthems for all us motorbike lovers to exchange stories, ask questions, and talk pointless dribble about another type of road vehicle.

So are there any others out there?

Speak up smile.gif
Jutsin
.. and to start it all off - why not let us know what your dream bike is?

Mine would be the Yamaha R6, which is only a year out of reach.

Ive just invested in getting a 1988 Harley Heritige Softail. Its basically a Fat Boy but with different wheels. I go and pick it up on Wednesday. Come this weekend me and about 6 other Harleys are going for a cruise to Pirie and back through Clare and the Barossa. I cant wait. Going to spend alot of time and money on this baby i think.

nice work harley, the softail's are very nice bikes.

my dad has a Yam FJ 1200, and she's a very nice beast. the throttle on it never ends, keeps goin and goin. lol

i love being on two wheels and especially with a big loud engine between my legs, but alas have not owned a motorbike for a few years now. i'm missing it real badly this summer. didn't help the other day when i got to sit on and start a friend's beast :

still one day i will get another one ... jutsin, the r6 is high on my list too, but is likely more than a year away sad.gif

ct 110, postie scooter! cost about 1500 or so, and usually live for ever!

there was a ride last year around australia i think all done on postie bikes, done for a charity,

due to finaces/space/where to park. i think the scooter will be staying for a while.

Its going to be sweet. The only prob is that the boys i will be ridding with have like $30,000 machines. One is a fuel injected duece and another is has an S@S motor in it. Ah its all cool i have plenty of time to customise it. I already have by putting $900 pipes on it. Should be a good cruise. If i get any pics i will post the suckers

Yeah i had dirt bikes as a kid also, mainly due to living on a property up in the Adelaide Hills. Then when i moved down to suburbia, I bought my first road bike an RGV250..

I have lost too many friends in motorcycle accidents, that I am still struggling with the fact that I want another road bike. This makes it hard to deal with..

I Would probably buy a GSXR600 or an R6. but will probably buy a dirt bike towards the end of year as its a little safer... and there are no cars to deal with...

I know what you mean mate. There was one day that i nearly got side swipped twice within 5 mins in the Port. The secound nearly copped me but he nearly copped a boot in his door. After that incident i hardly rode. Mainly because it was a small bike been a 250 and me been a big bloke like 6ft2 it just didnt work. Ever since ridding a bike im a different driver on the roads for sure. I have mates that had accidents because of idiot drivers but thay have hoped back on the bike. I wont be going cruising through the city much, my bike is mainly for touring to country places. I have been to alot of places in S.A in car and i thought on a bike will be a different way to see our great state.
Dirt bikes are great fun! I used to own a Kwaka 250 4 stroke and the thing just keeped going. Pelican point used to get a hard thrashing during the weekends. Thats how i learnt to ride was on a dirt bike.

Any way people Ride Safe

I'm thinking a Honda CB250RR, or CBR250 - the former is more expensive, and purely for how it looks, but overall the latter still looks pretty hot.
DeL
id be happy on a vtr 250 or a cbr 250, maybe an RGV or GPX, not rela fussed.. it has to be 250cc to begin with anyways... so many good L plate bikes available now
toby74
almost all those new 250's are dangerous - drop an inexperienced rider on something with that power-weight ratio and someone's gonna get hurt. in my humble and not-very-knowledgable opinion learners should not be allowed on something like an rgv or cbr cos they just go too hard and from my limited knowledge bikes like that have a nasty powerband that is not your friend while cranked over in a corner ...

i know it's boring but anyone who has not ridden a bike before should start with a cb250 (the bike parking inspectors are usually on) or the likes, or a trailbike that won't go over to within 15degrees of the road surface ...

anyone care to comment, or are we all immortal?
foonji
yeah, my trail bike has plenty of power and its a heap of shit. up on one wheel in no time, hehe.

on the otherhand my mate has a cbr250 and he hasn't had any dangerous inncidents yet, but he is a very sensible rider.

Keep in mind that a bike will not crash by itself - it is merely on the shoulders of the rider.

CBRs and CB250RRs are suitable bikes as long as you're not a tool when riding them.

If you know how to apply throttle around a corner then it won't matter what sort of power the bike has.

Then again, what I've just said is taking a personal perspective of it - the majority of riders would not know or abide by the safest way of riding, so in a neutral way I do agree, but for me personally .. I don't class it as too much power.

sssoooo when r u buying me that cb250???

mmm ... me neither smile.gif me want power for pulling out of corners and the chance to wind the engine out on a straight flat piece of bitumen

Thay are changing the rules at the moment. Thay are going to change the system to power to rate ratio. So basically all the poket rocket bikes thay have wont be allowed to be used for learners but you can go up 600cc but as i said thay work it on power to rate. Its a pitty thay are doing that really as you can kill your self or seriously hurt your self doing 40 k's so really it doesnt matter if you have a wizz bang little poket rocket or a 50cc scoter the danger is there. What next curfews?

sounds like a worthy change to be considering in some respects - but in the end i have an unrestricted licence so hehehe ... there are so many things out there on the road to hit, from brick walls and cars to oil patches and gravel that we should all be very very careful out there on the roads and i in no way condone going over the speed limit rolleyes.gif

the fastest bike i have ridden was a ZX6-R and it rocked! made my suzuki across look like a scooter. i am now keen as mustard to get a 600cc sport bike but gonna be a while before it's a reality

I thought this was already in place as of November last year? That's what all the reading material the Motor Registry place sent me indicates, and overall it doesn't change a great deal. The vast majority of 250cc bikes (including CBR and CBRRs) meet the standards, it's only a few which don't.

An R1 especially will raise the front wheel with almost every gear change, so it's not that rare for it to happen constantly.

.. of course on an R1 you need to give it a little more throttle than in the clip you posted laugh.gif

I've all but decided on a Honda CBR250 (not the 250RR, as for an extra $1000 there is almost no difference at all), or the Kawasaki ZZR250.

As far as the CBR goes...

a 'naked' is alot cheaper.. hmmm

the VTR 250 im looking at is yellow aswell...

and no chance of riding it up the dlight of stairs round the corner to my place...

Insurance cost won't be an issue, and I don't like the look of naked bikes.

Fairings all the way biggrin.gif

I realised the video Dav posted is quite likely (99% sure) from the first Ghostrider movie.

I just saw the second Ghostrider movie today.. holy moley it's insane. Weaving through cars on a freeway doing wheelies at 280km/hr heh.

There was also a scene where he rode a turbo-charged Hayabusa which did WAY over 300km/hr while dodging cars on the freeway and being chased by cops.

Crazy stuff smile.gif

Wild stuff we should get all the anthems bike riders together for a cruze. i've had a few bikes over the last few years but only a year ago i traded my 2000 R6 and sold my 99 Wr 400 moto x er and bought a 03 R1 the liquid silver its my pride and joy. Oh so much power and fun, have modded it a bit for a few extra hp, fitted braided brakelines, wave disks front & rear, single seat cowl, micron muffler, tinted w/screen, clear indicator lenses, tank protector, and other minor bits & pieces here's a pic of it at work. Going to fit a set of micron headders soon with a power commander aftermarket programable computer. The ZZR, and Suzuki GSXR were both bikes (extremely similar) I was looking at getting for the first year on my Ls and Ps.. but I knew if I got one of them, I'd regret not spending an extra 500-750 and just getting a CBR.

If your a power hungry speed nut like me once you ride its hard to go back. We should go for a coffee cruze one sun arvo and take as many passengers as we can, its always fun riding with a bunch of mates.

Going for bike cruises is one thing I hoped to inspire by starting this thread.. once I'm all biked up, there's a bunch of people from work who I can go riding with - but I'd love to head out with Anthemites as well.

My favorite ride is through strath to goolwa, victor, delamere, and home that way along the coast you get a nice sunset, its a good half day depending on pace but usually a tyre melting good time is had by all.

well Rich, I hope that you do end up on a bike again

condolences for your loss, and it's a damn shame when anyone has any accident, but i don't want to let that put me off riding forever ... i think it has to be said that at least part of the thrill of riding is the danger.

that cheeky feeling of cheating death once more, and the old adage that if you don't scare yourself once a day - you're not riding hard enuff! i don't think anyone buys a roadbike for anything other than speed, and with that comes extreme danger.

even the cruisiest of bikes can be pretty hairy biggrin.gif

I have all my leathers, helmet, kevlar jeans, blah blah .. everything but the bike.

I actually have enough for the bike right now .. but I want to wait until I have about 500-1000 excess cash.. I'm used to always having a lot of money to spend whenever I want to, I don't want to be broke for a month or so after I buy the bike. I want to still be able to easily afford big weekends and that sort of thing, even if it's the very day after I've bought the damn thing!

As far as pictures go.. don't you worry, this thing will be my pride and joy biggrin.gif many photos will be taken.

Holy crap, if I didn't have Uni tomorrow that would be quite a funny thing to do.

There was one guy in the course who used a scooter - so unfair, never had to worry about gears and so forth.. which actually made up about 30% of the "curriculum".

I had an 2000 R6 before my 03 R1 i loved it to death. It was such a fun bike to ride and a very willing performer. The only reason i don't have it now is i did a shit load of km's on it and wanted to sell it before it de valued too much. Oh Justin not far off getting my rear tire replaced either Pilot power here i come.We may as well make this informative also i guess........ i got quoted 270 for a pilot power sport tire from G.C motorcycles at edwards town. Which is not a bad price, I like these guy's cos unlike some others they take CARE when removing wheels etc as some back yarders fit tires with hammers NOT GOOD as it fucks rims. one of the better palaces around for price and service too. they also have another shop out on main north road.

and lane splitting is LEGAL in SA, so id cut that crap before u find 20 bikes surroudning ur car one day.

its alos proven to be safer for bikes to be at the front of traffic at the lights.

i lane split on the scooter and on the bike. and i will keep doing so.

scooter death in SA.. at a set of lights but a guy in a van who failed to stop adn slammed into the back of the staionary scooter.

im going ot the front of the line fuck staying in traffic when uhave the ability to clear it.

halves ur travel time and increases ur saftey and when done properly poses no risk to anyone.

start shit like u just implied and u will find your mirrors broken off or your panels dented in and there aint no way u will out run a mad bike rider.

DeL
if some one swung a pole out a window at me id be more than happy to smash a mirror or kick a a panel in as i went past. and i sure as hell wouldnt be afriad to stop and get off and put a studded reinforced kevlar lined carbon figre knuckled fist thru a mirror/panel/face of the offender. as that shits just fucked up.

its attitudes like that that cause alot of issues on the road.

and frankly i thought far higher of marche than that.

that said... today was a awesome day for a ride. biggrin.gif
march E
ok let me rephrase my comment.. people who SPEED between the cars and do so recklessly get on my nerves. bikes have just as much right to be on the roads, no argument there. and i didnt realise that "splitting" was legal, that is ignorance on my behalf.

however you must agree that being reckless when riding between side by side cars resulting in damage to someone's vehicle would severely piss off some drivers.
DeL
lane filtering is not illegal in SA even teh police bikes do it. and u can lane filter past cop cars with out getting stopped.

fast paced reckless lane splitting is wrong. as is HIGH speed filtering on free ways between two moving cars etc.

but deliberatly ASSAULTING a bike rider for the fact u are stuck in traffic and he has the ability to go past you to clear the jam is just fucked up. so a 1 bike scraped the side of your car. so if one car driver scraped yoru car woudl u beat them with a metal pole too?

the rider should of stopped if he damaged your car. and i can undertsand anger towards him if he did not do so. but deliberately carrying an item of metal to intentioanlly hurt others that split past you... seriously..... its no wonder road rage happens!

then again.. i own an sports car, an old one.. one i take alot of pride in. and if i see biek riders coming up thru the traffic i move sidewas and give them room. i mean what right do i have to inpeded someone elses travel?

car drivers who deliberatly block bike riders or deliberatly provoke them really need to look at what they are doing.

my bike and me way 200kg, my protection is some plastic armour in my jacket, ( or leathers if u got em) jeans boots and kevlar lined gloves and a helmet.

your pushing 1-2ton of steel at a 60km an hr.. do the maths.. who is better off??
and then u go and swing a metal bar at a riders head???

i think alot fo drivers out there need to look at their own driving and their attitudes towards others on the roads.

i also find when im driving trucks that motroists dont give a shit cut u off and fail to give way alot.

and they wonder why there is deaths on the roads...

ok here is the parth where i admit that the carryin an object in my car for the sake of inflicting damage to people is a crock of shit i said to try n talk myself up. stupid move by me. it has caused a lot of shit and im a dick for even saying it.

pent up emotion got the better of rational thought. im hardly the sort of person who initiates violence and even if i did, my physique is similar to that of a preying mantis....

i am not an agressive driver, i have seen too many car accidents and known too many people who were killed in them to risk it anymore. and i have experience driving a heavy vehicle and having motorists cut into your braking zones.

15 mins prior to the damage to my car i WAS driving a 1956 MGA mk1 that my dad and i both own and have been restoring for the last 7 years. and whould have been devastated to have that even relotely damaged as you would understand how difficult the bodywork is to correct on such vehicles.

i was more attempting to make a point about recklessness than a threat to all riders.

SA has just coem under hte LAMS aproval scheme so u can ride nayhting up to a 660cc bike if the power to weight ratio is in the figures.

Craig, do you know how recently the oil, oil filter and brake fluid has been changed on your bike? If not, we should (even Paulie if he wants) get together and change that all over one day so you know you're all set for the next 1-2 yrs (10, 000km).

Don't forget to get some chain wax/chain lube, and find the best tire pressures for your bike too!

Craig came over a week or two ago and i changed his front and rear brake pads and also drained and flushed his brake fluid front and rear also. I'm not sure of the intervals for brake fluid but i think its every 6 months. This is mainly due to brake fluid being Hydroscopic ( dilutes in water). So if you get some on your paint make sure you use plain water to wash it off, no problems. Brake fluid its self has a high boiling point and can cope with heat reasonably well but once it absorbs moisture over time the water content lowers its resistance to heat and the water evaporates into steam. This causes brake fade and you don't stop in a hurry. Best not to leave it too long. Most fluid these days changes colour once it gets old, you can see this through the little window in the side of the fluid resivoir. If any of you get stuck pm me i'll lend a hand. biggrin.gif

BRILLIANT ride ..

The beginning of Gorge Road is only 5 minutes from my place .. the ride took about 1 hour, it was 75km from my house and back (so cost about $5 in petrol) - and there's a nice little cafe half way through the journey.

What a convenient ride - I know where I'll be from now on when there's a nice day biggrin.gif

Good question .. the weather is just getting better and better, so the next 4-5 months are going to be very promising. We'll have to figure out when we all have a weekend free and spend a day hooning about.

Paul should have his new back tire within the next two weeks, so anytime after that I reckon smile.gif
DeL
yeah can only get better!!

im going to have to play catch up on skills and on power i think... but im loving being back on a proper bike.. scooter was fun.. and had its advantages.. i dont think id be back on a bike if it wasnt for the scooter....

I want to buy these flashing red LED valve caps for my bike ..

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/WHEEL-LED-NEON-LIGH...1QQcmdZViewItem

I'm not sure of the law though? Surely you can't have neon red flashing valve caps on your car/bike??

Anyone know for certain?
DeL
no idea.. id gather that they would be classed as a distraction to other drivers. and there for probably not legal..

Mitsymad, get one!! then join us biggrin.gif

A maintenance question for Paulie when he gets on:

How often should I degrease my chain? I know waxing/lubing is every 2-3 rides .. but my chain looks dirty as all hell, and I've heard (on the motorbike grapevine) that degreasing it every once in a while is necessary. If so, tell me about it biggrin.gif also, is it a good idea to take off the fairings and degrease the whole thing every once in a while? (ie: give it a good and thorough clean)

.. and in terms of leathers: what upkeep should I be doing with leathers? Leather conditioner or some such? How often and what are the products I should be using?

Many thanks biggrin.gif

.. and one more thing .. rear-wheel race stands, where could I pick one of those up? Hopefully a second hand one so it's not super expensive. I've been looking, but can't quite find one sad.gif

DeL
yes... chain wax/grease... and dregreasing of my chain is an issues to me aswell...

ive done the main engine and front fairings.. probably should degrease the lot... ive been told theres probably too much grease on it... and i dont have chain oil/wax yet ... hmmm Shopping time paullie....
BOOSTING
Ok with the chain i usually leave it a coupple of weeks before i clean it. I've never degreased it at all before. I just use a old t shirt or somehting like that with a little solvent on it like petrol or somehting that will dry fast. I don't like degreaser as if you don't get it all out your next application of chain lube will be slightly affected by left over degreaser. So i scrub the chain all over just to remove the excess gunk on the chain, then re lube. thats about it. Just remember to lube the chain at least once a week or after riding in the rain as rain blasts off the lube on the chain.
On 250's and even my old R6 i noticed a power increase whenever i lubed the chain up really good as the friction is so much less felt like an extra 8 hp or so gain. so thats why i keep mine pretty well serviced i like free power he he he. biggrin.gif

***** SAFETY TIP*******
NEVER and I mean NEVER clean the chain with the bike going and in gear. My mate did this just before he was due to race the next day hid rag got caught in the sprocket and his thumb got pulled through the rear chain and sprocket it was severely fubar. So now you know how to do it DON'T DO IT LMAO laugh.gif

Getting some Plexus tomorrow for cleaning under the fairings and the chain and sprockets .. some Dubbin to condition my leathers .. some specky looking andonised red valve caps (bike bling biggrin.gif) .. a race stand most likely (or I'll at least be ordering one off eBay) .. and I'll be spending most of the day doing all the maintenance junk for it too.

Gotta love days off work biggrin.gif

I've also decided to start timing my runs up and down Gorge Road to kinda chart my progress over the coming months - I'll make an attempted effort at posting them here after each run so you can all heckle or congratulate me too. o_o

* Edit: the whole point of this post was to say that the Gorge Road run today was wicked fun, except I got side-tracked and went off on a tangent :@

Just got back from Gorge Road.

12:37 Start
1:23 Finish

46 minutes (it's the third time I've ridden it, so this will be a good starting point biggrin.gif)

I start timing a few km up Gorge Road (away from suburbia, and closer to the actual fun part).

Oh, and there was a cop set up with a radar on one of the first corners as you get further up into the hills. Three bikes high-beamed me on the way up, and I'm glad they did, as the cop was positioned right after a blind corner at the very end of a long straight :S

Watch out for the fuzz while riding, that's my tip *_*

I stacked it today while riding on Gorge Road.

Luckily it was low speed (20-30km) while turning around as the rain started to come down too hard for my liking.

The left fairing is a little fraked up, the left rearset and footpeg is snapped - and apart from rolling across the road a little ways (banged my right knee and the back of my head a few times) I'm all but fine.

The precious is not so precious on the left side now laugh.gif

This made sense as I was doing it.

There was an overtaking lane on the opposite side of the road which I crossed over to perform the U-turn in; as it seemed the safest option (because the point in the road I wanted to do a U-turn at was right at the apex of the corner, so it looked precarious).
DeL
ok.... i think this may need inperson describing...

ahhwell... u will probably not do it again wink.gif

i hope!

those CBRRRRRRRRRRRS costa bit to fix far as i know...

my GPX is a tad cheaper wink.gif
DeL
well im off to the bike ride.... should be a good day for it!!!

nice ride out to the barrossa valley...

first time ive been there in about 6 yrs of living here... and im doing it on the bike!
Jutsin
In person description is definitely needed.

It's only costing $25 - 75 to fix, and I should have it done by mid next week at the latest.

I'll be out once more next weekend, oh yes, and it will be good biggrin.gif

* Edit: I spent today using a slightly abrasive rubbing compound on the scratches, and it's looking a lot better .. I also re-attached my left indicator, and also had to flex the frame of the bike a bit as the left side mirror was completely disaligned (the metal frame where the mirror and visor are attached was bent inwards :S).

The broken precious is slowly becoming excellently precious again.

was a good pack of riders and a good day to be had!

kaboom.. why u think my left leg is fcuked???

Dirt bike accident... they ended up lifting my knee cap up and scraping rocks out from under it with a spatula...

then a few yrs later.. half way thru a second op on it to fix damage.. ( coudlnt drive a manual car as knee was so fraked) i flat lined and was resussitated on the table.. so the knee has never been fixed...

permanetly fcuked! so i play to do wat i can do while i can.. as in all honesty, i have no idea how much longer ill be walking on it sad.gif

Fullcrum, Funklylilprincess and a few others have seen me when my knee plays up real bad... and it aint a sight i like sad.gif

I'm the exact opposite - the moment I came off and found out I'd messed up the peg and the bracket, I was angry that I'd have to wait a week or so before I could ride again LOL

Oh dude you have no idea how good it is to ride it again. its been so long it feels so powerful now laugh.gif. i reset my injection computer something i never did after my last mods ( K&N pannel filter and cold air induction duct) feels good now with a fresh batch of premium in the tank. The old stuff was 2 months old. Went for a little scoot last night still gaining confidence with the new tires and scrubbing in my new rear. won't be long before i can let loose and see how sticky these things really are. You can leave fingernail impressions in them they are that soft he he can't wait to heat em up and let loose. laugh.gif cool.gif

i want a bike SO much but i know i should wait that little bit longer... I CANT DECIDE .. wacko.gif
Jutsin
Experience on the road is a good thing, it's true.

I say if you're not a confident driver, it's not a good idea for you to be hopping on a bike - as it is a dangerous sport (even if you're not taking it as a sport and are only riding to and from work, etc).

There's a guarantee when you buy a bike - it's that you're eventually going to drop it.

Motorcycle accidents happen less frequently and in less proportionate numbers than car accidents - but on the flip side of the coin; when bike accidents happen they have a MUCH HIGHER chance of being severe injury or fatal accidents.

Think safe first, ride safe later - unless you're comfortable on the roads already, then there's no reason to delay the inevitable smile.gif

hehe iv driven an old carolla while sitting on my sisters lap wen i was 8, i just steered,
ive driven a mazda protoge 323 up a STEEP driveway without anyone in the car ( my mum was standing next to me) that sucked... and iv spent about half an hour driving a silvia turbo around the bi lo carpark in prospect.. my biggest problem with cars is how wide they are.. im good with speed.. but iv never driven on the road, and iv never been on a moving bike..

as much dissapointment it is to me i think ill wait a few months on my CAR l plates before gettin my bike smile.gif

Perhaps... i was only 17 when i got my p's so ive only just turned 19. Maybe thats why my p's have lasted longer. But anyway i only had the power restrictions for one year

That would be it smile.gif

I'll only be on my P's for 12 months, so it's obviously linked with your age (or possibly the status of your car licence).

That's good to know at least smile.gif

DeL
*walkks back out to his work place and checks the bike is still there...*

Lost in , would be great to have you join us! im sure as u would of noticed upon anthems already anything discussed on here is generally an open invite to anyone with a similer interest!!!

Monica, Scooters u can ride on your L plates. finding a bike that u can ride comfortabley may be hard because of your size, you litle tongue.gif but im sure there are a few options. a scootrer would probably make good sence to start with. pick up an older second hand one for about a grand or so and see hwo u go out an about on it. if i still had mine id lend it to ya for a day... but we all know how that ended up last time an anthems girl rode it wink.gif

id recomend anyone to get a scooter as they are so much fun!! and great for around town usage ( which is exactly what they are desigfned for) maybe move up into a motor bike a bit further down when u have road confidence and skills biggrin.gif

more of us on bikes the better the world is!

Joker and I are going for a ride tomorrow, Craig, if you're interested.

It's up our side of town though.

Meeting at 4pm at the Hungry Jacks just a little ways up North East Road from Tea Tree Plaza.

Like I said - we'll be there about 4pm, gimme or Joker a buzz if you wanna come too so we can get extra excited biggrin.gif

Ride should take about 1.5 hours, and it will be good times for all biggrin.gif

MY RIDE laugh.gif laugh.gif WAS FKN GREAT..........Decided to ride a road i've been traveling the last few weekends in the car to see how much quicker the R1 is compared to the EXA...... oh man it was fun. From the top of bains road to the begining of mt barker it took me about 24 ish min. There was a bit of traffic etc and my rear tire was still not scrubbed in properly. I turned around straight away so the tires didn't even get a chance to cool down. On the way home ha ha it was a different story only took me 19 min to get home lmao THAT was what i call fun laugh.gif And funny thing is i'm still re learning how to ride my bike after loosing 30 kg's so it's possible to beat this time i think that once i get used to the bike again and get used to these new Pilot power sport tires i had fitted i should be able to get it down to around the 15 min mark( traffic permitting ) THATS DAMN FAST IN ANYONES BOOK. biggrin.gif

Yes there is and now i've made changes to my imediate surroundings i'll surely have time to my self to actually go on a ride too. Bikes to me are more than just a THRILL MACHINE they give you time away from the shit you have to deal with your own and everyone elses. They give you time away from phones, people, crud. Just you and the bike and the open possibilities of where you want to go. Its a type of unbridled freedom we experience and i for one FKN LOVE IT. There are things recently that have made me think the risk of owning such a powerful machine and cutting life short arern't really worth it. To a point i can still see the logic in it and there are things now that make me think twice whenever i'm doubbling or trebbeling the recomended corner speed signs and leaving black lines out of corners. I Love to ride but i now know there will be a day where the risk of loosing loved ones or them loosing you will be just too much to risk. A mate of mine told me this once and i never could understand........Would hate to admit it but he's right. Until that day comes though i'll be riding, enjoying, loving the freedom that comes with these wonderful machines and the friendships you build. Bike riders are like a community if you stop with a bunch of others usually they are only too happy to strike up a convo and even go for a ride. So even if any of you are contemplating getting a bike DO IT even once just try it, I did and never looked back. cool.gif

AMEN

in regards to the top post..

the victorians rode their bikes across from melbourne sunday last wek to spend a week riding here in adelaide.. they rode 700km across here, just to go riding! i mean how bloody awesome is that!

they are members of the netrider community, and afterhearing us SA people talk about our roads and hillls and barossa valley etc.. they decided it was worth the trip across to expereience it themselves.

after owning a RX-7 for a few years now. i can see the comradary that is shared amongs mazda ownners as Rotary vehicles are not all that common, and owning one makes u stand out straight away. ive since found that owning the bike has given me that acceptance and comradary on the road the same as the RX-7 does!

its an awesome feeling to drive/ride the 7/bike and get "the wave" or " the nod" from anothe person enjoying the same thrill you are.

i concur wiith boosting, i bought my bike not just as an upgrade from my scooter, but for the time it gives me to think, to try n sort msyelf out.. some of u would of noticed my absence at partys events nights out and also my not drinking, ( tho thats kinda broken now tongue.gif) that was mostly due by to the bike.. no alcohol when riding, and the fact its giving me the time to really try n get myself sorted out after these last few weeks.

i used to go surfing to achive the same thing, the time th silence.. the complete lack of anything but u and nature. and the love and exhilaration of the ride...

i now find that in racing the 7 at mallala or thru the hills, or taking the bike out.. more so the bike of late as its opening a whole new world of persoanl time for me.

if anyone at all is interested in riding... do it.

and remember.. its not just a ride.. its a memory a life style and a feeling that cannot be explained fully.

just look at the smile of any rider when they have taken their helmet off at a local country bakery for a snack and see the smile on their face... try and put that smile in to words!!

i know i cant...

so ill just smile and let u work it out!
DeL

Sorry, guys. I was at Uni for longer than expected today - and my battery has mysteriously gone flat.

Sorting it out over the next few days with a charger, or a possible new battery.

Will keep you all updated smile.gif
DeL
sweet, be good to catch up on those roads joker has lined up for us!!

was a smaller than usual turn out today.. probably due to the adverse conditions. 7 bikes in all and 1 scooter.

dinner as always was exceleent i suggest anyone try the calzone from scoozis on rundle.. LOVE IT!!!

and a mugamochachino!

ill be back at work next week. so mid week rides will be wednesdays only for me..

Jutsin
Charging the battery over night. I'll find out tomorrow whether or not it's the battery itself, or if it just needed a charge. If it's the battery, I'll get a new one on Friday - but I have a feeling it just needed a charge smile.gif
DeL
i always had issues with the scooter. same problem, always running flat.. turns out the generator/alternator are tiny on most bikes/scooters so if u do alot or short rides.. it never really charges the battery. the fact u have a light on all the time etc. can drain them some what.

hope its just a charge!

i use to charge scooter at work once every couple weeks at one stage.. then rode it a heap and had no issues!

This is the first issue I've had .. having said that, on Sunday I didn't start the motor, but I had the battery running for a good 1-2 hours (while I was fixing my problem with the blinker).

So essentially the blinkers were going on and off for a good 1-2 hours, but the battery never got any charge. That would explain the battery suddenly dying today out of nowhere!

Lesson learnt biggrin.gif I'll scope it out tomorrow, anyway.
DeL
good to hear u got a handle on it smile.gif

looking fwd to the coming season of rides we all got ahead of us!

anyone heard from harley if he picked up the other bike???

Checking at this Kwaka tonight.... A real mad max bike...... Just call me the toecutter biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
joker4
well good luck with it, it wil be great to have anther rider out there to cruise with.

Well as 4 me, had a little misshap with me and the bike yesterday, a driver cut me off, and i came off at 60km.

im ok, just a sore right knee, not a scratch anywere else tho.

the bike needs a new RH miror, indicator, and foot peg, and a bit of scraches on the right side, nothing 30min sanding back and a qiuck touch up of paint wouldnt fix

the bike still rides fine, no other problems.
Harley
Glad your ok thats the main thing

Whos fault was it??

The indicators and mirrors etc wont cost to much just go to a bike wreckers and source the parts. There is a good one on Churchill Road and another up near T.T.P cant remember the name of them but youl find em in the fone book

Glad that your ok but!
joker4
i was the other person fault, the where pulling into arndall from the other side of the road, traffic was banked up in the right lane, i was riding down the left lane, and she turned in front of me, and so i put the front brakes, but then it felt like the ass end came out from under me uummmm????
so i just let my self rol to a stop got up, checked all my parts, lol yep all there, picked up the bike, waited 5 min, and then rode off. not a sratch on the jacket or helmet either uumm?? all good.

my right knee is still a bit sore this morning, after sitting on a bus all nite with no leg room heading to melb, nothing a bit of panadol wont fix
DeL
good to hear your well mate.

enjoy melbourne!!

we can suss ya bike out later when uget back.

if u hit fornt brakes i cant work out why rear slide out...

my high side was rear brake induced lock and release.

as mentioned scored some cheap parts via melb and a great web site called

www.findapart.com
Jutsin
High sides are pretty much always initially caused by the rear.

The bike tends to low side if you do something wrong with the front.

You sure you didn't have your foot instinctively on the back brake as well when you were slowing down, Simon? That's happened before; it's why I've cut my back brake in half, so I only touch it if I make the conscious decision to smile.gif

Bike battery is fine, by the way - all sorted biggrin.gif
joker4
nah, i have never used the back brakes yet, im still larning how to do every thing else to worry bout the back lol
DeL
yah from the looks of the damaged was more a low slide.. than a high side,

i still dont like hte idea of cutting my break.. emergency breaking etc...

and good to hear bout teh battery justin.
BOOSTING
I hardly use my rear brake. I only use it for emergency breaking as Del sad above, and some times use it to pull the bike round a tight bend by trailing the slightest bit of pressure on the rear. Basically just resting my foot on the pedal its a racers trick, but if you use it too much it will lock on lean causing a slide then the tire will grip again causing the bike to " buck" so be careful, use the breaks carefully if you have to while on a lean as your traction is a lot less cos most of the traction of the tire is used in the cornering and breaking while cornering can cause problems of exceeding the grip of the tire. This is why i always go for the stickiest tire i can.
Harley
Well i got the GPX1000 last night. Picked it up for a a mac donalds meal that how cheap i got the sucker. Not a bad unit for a 1986 bike. Hear is a pic of a bike the same. Ill post one up of mine when i get the chance. Am going to clean it tonight and learn how to ride it smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

You can still use the back brake if you cut it, it just means there's no chance of you hitting it accidentally.

ie: when I hit my back brake, it's done 100% on purpose, and there's no possible way my foot can ever accidentally lean on it, or stomp on it too heavily in the event im in an emergency, etc.

When I say cut it.. I don't mean cut the actual brake lines or something, I mean the brake pedal itself - it's cut in half, so I can only use it when I specifically try to smile.gif safest thing to do, seeing as the back brake is only decent <20km unless you're really a bike pro and know how to use it to tuck you tighter into corners, etc.

Nice ride too, Harley biggrin.gif

Perfect day for it today and yesterday - I enjoyed riding to BC and such biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Been riding back and forth to a few places recently, and it's a whole lot of fun biggrin.gif

The day is beautiful, and I'm seriously considering cruising down to Glenelg in a few minutes.

Just got back .. good 1.5 - 2 hours worth of riding.

Funny story too; Davin in his Skyline was pretty much side by side with me all the way down South Road (he turned off at Richmond Road though, I kept going to Anzac Highway).

That wasn't planned, it was completely random, and he's not yet aware that it was me biggrin.gif

Well i dont think thats going to happen in a long time. To bloody scared to lean it over and plus the dude i got the bike from (my mates work mate) said i should go out and invest in some softer tyres as the ones on it are hard tyres. Thats fine as i wont be doing anything like that as yet.

Rung up bout an air filter. Nearly a $100 and needle and seats..... $60 a peice. hahahahaha the joys of owning a bike. I knew things where expensive especially owning a Harley but come on!!!

Two words: Trading Post.

The jackets and leathers that are constantly in the Trading Post are wicked brands for beyond wicked prices.

Just find out your size by going to Peter Steven's or something and trying a few things on .. that way you can just reply to ads with the right size!

eg: Size 54 Dainese Maiko 2-piece suit (new condition) - $500 (normally $2000 or more).

That's what I missed out on .. as I bought my leathers without first checking the trading post sad.gif

That'll work.

Unzipping the jacket a bit doesn't help at all?

On really hot days I have my jacket only zipped up 75% of the way .. that way I get this constant flow of air through the chest, back and arms of the jacket - it's wicked biggrin.gif
DeLr
nah beenriding with it unzipped a bit of late.. due to its design its spoe to be " wind proof no draughts etc" so even unzipped it dont let much in as it wants to seal itself, the folds of the fabric automatically come together etc,

ohwell.. time for a shower to cool off then go for a ride biggrin.gif

All went well smile.gif It's amazing how quickly you improve after just a few practice runs; but I did 2 hours worth to be sure biggrin.gif I'll head back out sometime next week before the test too, to be sure I'm genuinely trained up.

There's really no reason to wait to book in - the only reason I did was because of the cost involved. I was happy to put it off and spend my money elsewhere, but seeing as time was running out I just recently decided to put the cash towards P's instead of anything else smile.gif

Having said that though; I wouldn't consider it "wasting" time. Considering you still ride just as much, and therefore still learn just as much - whether you've got an L or a P plate showing at the back smile.gif
BOOSTINGr
Yeah its not wasting time really every bit of riding you do builds your experience the more experience the better the rider you ultimately will be. But i see his point too the quicker you start your bike date license ( the 12 month 250cc restriction) the sooner its over and you can get a big bike. Just ride around lots and du u turns and slow speed balancing etc like when waiting to turn right at a set of lights with no green arrow. I have got my balance to the point now where i can pause for a second or 2 with no movement at all while waiting to turn its cool you don't have to put your feet down. Slow speed balance is tricky but a good skill to have. Also looks better than someone with the wobbles vs someone who rides smoothly.

Not a good thing if you asked me... People make mistakes on the road and been on a bike you do normally come out 2nd best.. But in saying that if i was the taxi driver i would have taken that as road rage and one of 2 things would of happened if i was the driver

1. i would of either called in to the taxi co and got them to call the cops and report the rego numbers

or

2. i would of retaliated in another form of rage..

But in saying this yesterday going down Days roads doing 50 i had 2 morons in commys p platers fly past me in the inside lane. I caught up to them cause thay had to stop at the road works and put it this way thay didnt even look at me..... I just normally just let people in cars let them be as im on the 2 wheels and have to keep my mind on the road so that i dont end up been a mistake...

As a previous bike rider and still passionate lover of bikes, this sort of thing does not do anything but escalate the problem.

Yes he probably didn't look, yes he obviously is a retard (hence the reason for driving a taxi) but boxing people in with 8 others just shows that you guys are just as stupid as him. 8 bike riders onto 1 taxi driver is pretty damm fair dont you think... put your self in a 8 to 1 ratio in any hostile situation and I bet you wont like it either.

I have been in similar situations when I had my bike, where I have been cut off by retards in cars. But never took my responce to this level. Remember that one day, you may have an accident on your bike, and people in cars who have been harrased in this type of situation, may choose not to stop and render assistance to you..

Just my thoughts....

NSR150s are a lot of fun, but I believe they're two-stroke .. meaning a lot more maintenance and general things to do on the bike (which may be difficult if you're not sure how to do it) - otherwise theyre fantastic bikes biggrin.gif

Otherwise those bikes are learner legal and you *could* get them .. but I'd suggest researching a bit, and maybe we have a real life conversation regarding what you want from your bike so I can help point you in the right direction.

I'll PM that thing now .. look it over so you get a better idea about the bikes biggrin.gif

Do you have the money to buy a bike right away, just out of curiosity?

smile.gif thx again for the pm, ill have another look for those ones, maybe check out the sunday mail cars guide too..

the suzuki iv reconsidered, not really up for paying that much for an 11 yr old bike...

the honda for $4000 has been sold and the other two havnt gotten back to me, the kawasaki is still appealing, apparently its never been dropped, not too keen on lowering the price and less than $4500, hes the second owner, might check it out tomoro after work.. smile.gif

oh and yes i can afford a bike smile.gif

RGV learner legal?? i didint think so, thought that was a two stroke aswell?

Monica, i own a GPX250, great bikes!

loud n noisey tongue.gif and perform rather well im getting 390km from 15 litres on a good tank, and about 300 with a more spirited ride...

id suggest u stay clear of the 2 strokes, and get a 4 stroke, the GPX has the same engine and gear box as teh ZZR250, with less fairings

i got mine for about 2k, its a bit ruff round the edges but it sure does wat it needs to!

good luck with it all monica!

cheers, i found a kawasaki zzr250 for $2900, it didnt have a piccy tho, and hardly any info on it so ill have to set a reminder to call em up and check it out
the guy with the GPX said i can come over wenever i want tomoro, it sounds like its been treated really well, but its $4800, thats a fair bit more than what you paid..

but then theres a zx6r GREEN! for $5000.. looks oh so hot tongue.gif again a bit too much, im gona have to stay under $4000 i think.. im being impatient, i should wait till a great bargain pops up and ill pounce with all my charm biggrin.gif

Harley, yeah i was shocked when she started to surge n chug and i looked down and had done 390km!!!

mine usually gets the 3km ride to work n back each day... and a bit of a squirt on my days off. but that mileage was when i was home on a break from work for 2 weeks, clocked up some longer riding nicely biggrin.gif

gotta remember mines a 250.. urs is a 1000 tongue.gif
DeLr
and monica, factor in $1000 in safety gear,

helmet $3-400
Gloves $60
Jacket $2-300 summer and winter riding conditions suit differnt styles of jacket.
Boots (must cover ankles and preferably leather constructured for ur own saftey)
Kevlar pants ( Draggins or similer) $150-250

if short of money.... helmet and gloves are the main essentials!!!
i ride in jeans, my work boots, but aklways wear an armoured jacket and gloves!

with helmets, never buy a second hand helmet. as generally they have been dropped. and any helmet thats beeen dropped is pretty much useless afterwards!! i dont understand this, i mean its ment to protect ur head in heavy hits, so id have thought it be built to withstand heavy knocks, but structual integrity is lost once its sustained a hard drop.

I look at it like crumple zones on a car.

The helmet is built with an extremely high number of protective layers which will crumple (or something similar) on impact. This protects your melon, but doesn't mean good things for the helmet .. as it's protective qualities have now been used up, etc.

Don't drop your helmet from any great heights either (in excess of 1 meter) .. dropping a helmet on even the carpet, or especially tiles and so forth will pretty much break it smile.gif
DeLr
i should rephrase that to " minor hits" ie the 1m rule, thing..

poor wording from me wink.gif

i can understadn the struture side of things qafte a big hit, but wat id consider a minor drop such as falling from the bike seat or mirror, it should be able to withstand with out damage biggrin.gif

i know a guy who dropped his Shoei a week after he bought it. paid 1100 for the first one... then got the seocnd for about 900, (figures arnt exact but up there int eh correct price range) was knocked off a bench at his home.... salesman took a bit of charity on him and discounted the second purchse of the same helmet,

all goes down to... wat u think your head is worth. i got my HJC FG14 discounted from 420, down to bit over 300, and i was very pleased with that!

That's it right there.

If you've got a $20 head, get some $20 protection for when you come off (because it's guaranteed that you will at some point!). Most helmets above $300 RRP are excellent and affordable when you think about it.

If you can get a more expensive, but discounted one .. then you're cheering (ie: what Craig and I have done).

Just keep looking around, and you're bound to find a bargain somewhere.

I was looking for about 3 weeks, then stumbled across an end-of-the-line Shoei RF-R that's worth $600-$650 .. but was on sale for $350. I bought it as soon as I realised it fit perfectly.

Another thing to think about .. not all helmets fit all heads. Arai make my mouth feel like I have an anvil resting on it, so even though their helmets are the "best of the best", they don't fit my melon in a million years! Shoei fits perfectly, luckily, as that's the helmet brand I wanted to stick with from the word go biggrin.gif

So yeah .. some more advice, I guess: try on a few different brands and such before you get your heart set on a design/price!
DeLr
completely agree with justin,

i first tried a shoei, but found it wasnt a comfortabel fit, could of been one size too small, dunno... but the HJC fit perfectly and at a nice discount, ( it also matched the rest of my gear and my bike... tongue.gif) i decided it would be a good purchase biggrin.gif

as with all things.. TRY BEFORE U BUY!! test ride a few bikes before u purchase one, and do more than a 5 minute lap round trhe block. the owner of my bike was willing to give it to me for a full days riding before i purchased it!!!

now i woudlnt expect that from anyone! my initial test ride was about 25 minutes long, and then i borrowed it on a day off and clocked up over 200km on it

SOLD SOLD SOLD

Harleyr
Buy an open face......I have both open and fall face. Just make sure it comfy as you dont want to be riding with a sore head.

Went down victor yesterday for brekky with about 8 other blokes basically all on Harleys and was a killa ride. I wore an open face with a bandana around my face. Was good to get out in the fresh air

walked from gepps cross kartamnia to northpark shopping centre yesterday looking at all the bike shops on the way,
i found a nice fitting helmet, very happy with it - RJAYS GP1 fugitive pink/white also comes in blue, red, grey RRP $250 tried on quite a few others, main problem was size coz i need an xxs rolleyes.gif
and the other thing i found that i liked was a pair of gloves for $100, most comfortable i could find but i seriously dnt know if i shuld dig out that much for some gloves...
couple of jackets i found $250-$330 might keep looking for them coz none of them really said GET ME, IM PERFECT!
only got to look at one learner legal bike, twas still 1k out of my budget, had a few dents too so ill stick to praivate buying smile.gif

Before you buy any accessories, make sure you check this place out:

Adelaide Motorcycle Accessories

271 Morphett St - Adelaide CBD

Extremely inexpensive stuff, and the guy is usually more than happy to do you a good deal if you buy a few things from him.

He's old and he's grumpy though, so don't expect smiling service .. but when you walk out and have saved well over $500 (in my case) .. you really don't care whether he was smiling throughout the transaction or not tongue.gif

They're not compulsory. The only compulsory thing is the helmet, actually.

Not many people buy riding boots; shoes do fine 99.9% of the time .. it's just a matter of it's very easy to roll your ankle if you come off a bike, or have the ball of your ankle worn down by the pavement as you go sliding along it with no protection on your ankles because you're only wearing shoes laugh.gif

I think all you need to wear on a hot summers day riding is a helmet, singlet, shorts and thongs!! wink.gif

Nothing like getting 3rd degree burns from the hot bitumen after you have already received gravel rash/ other injuries if you fall off.

Yes safety gear is a must, even on 40 degree days people!! wink.gif

found that helmet at maximoto, the guy there made it very clear if i bought anything else he would do discounts.. just didnt find anything else i really wanted from them.. might go checkout their gloves again.. cant remeber wether the visor was tinted, would recomend i only get one thats tinted or its no biggy?

im glad about the boots, as i said id wana be wearing wateva shoes i need for the day, i know even well experienced drivers have accidents, im gonna put all my effort into the bike and my own safety, side streets, lots of practice before going on the busy main roads of the north, no special tricks for a few yrs, and learning how to concentrate properly so im aware of all other drivers surrounding me.
and lots of rides with the anthems motorbike enthusiasts tongue.gif

boots are important to protect yoru feet and ancles, when your sliding as mentioned u wll wear your ankles down grinding them on the rd. also strongboots will soften the gear chnages on your toes ( sounds weak, but try changing gears 100 times bare foot on the bike and u will realise leather boots are great!)

gloves, find wat is comfortable and make sure they fit well, doubel padded kevlar lined armoured, its all personal choices, but ask simon.... when he came off, wat was actually damaged most, not helmet or jacket... but his gloves and he cant ever remeber putting his hands down,

i own 3 pairs of gloves,

Winter fully lined insulated water proof kevlar lined
light weight full leather and kevlar,
and also light weight summer, mesh backed kevlar and leather gloves for hot weather riding.
i have an Rjays Voyager 2 jacket, full water proof wind proof. elbow shoulder and back armour,
and an DriRider Airmesh jacket for summer. full armour as above

Vmoto on richmond Rd have an Rjays ladies mesh jacket for sale from 200+ down to 120 or so.. its pretty small.. maybe u should try it?

if u do, mention to michael that Craig sent u down, and he may be able to discount even more,

good luck biggrin.gif

actually ill go down tomorow, and take a photo of it. its RED, and mesh material, great for summer. has elbow shoulder and back armour,

ill send to you.

what u doing tomorow?

Camo pants, Black leather jacket and black boots thats what i wear when i go ridding about but when i got to work i just wear my work clothes but an extra jacket as its cold at 6:15am.

Im up for a new helmet so i might go check out a few. I just want a plain black full face with a slightly tinted visor. I rarley have my visor down as i use sunnys and let the cool air hit my face oh maybe even a pair of gloves as thats one thing i dont have and your rite that what ppl tend to do when thay come up is the put there hands up front to try and stop them selfs. Dont want my hand to be all carved up
joker4r
even b4 i brought my bike, i all ready had a jacket and helmet.
the helmet cost me $250 HJC, and my jacket cost me $270 for a good shift one
then later on i got some summer gloves at $40.

and then picked up my baby 4 $2260.

i know ppl say dont buy the first bike u see, but i did, only cause it was a steal at the price, and i did look 4 other bikes, but this was the only one i saw, cause there was none to be seen in my price range, there was nothing out there at all

the amount of crap i carry around with me daily is enuf, i dnt wana be lugging around some chunky boots aswel, i know its a safety thing, if i feel like im not a gd enuf rider and i will probly hav an accident i will reconsider, my skater style shoes are pretty fat, if i was to lay my leg down with those shoes on there would be just under an inch of space between my ankle & the ground.. also my work shoes are almost missing their soles so wen i buy new ones ill try n get ones with high ankles smile.gif

Do it.

Apart from the increase to the cost of the Rider Safe courses (which I still think are affordable and worth it), there are basically no downsides.

Unless you crash and die; but you can do that in a car too.. I personally give it the thumbs up, and would suggest it as a hobby for anyone over the age of 5. Do it, and keep it sticky side down.

(PS: Most of the above is sarcasm; but the general direction is true: it's a great hobby and lifestyle, especially for someone already into motorsports).

I personally think the increase in fees by 300% to get your motorbike liscence is Ludicrus... It is nothing more than more government revenue raising. As none of this extra money will be spent on improving roads or safety..

The only thing it will do is, make less people get their liscence. Which means some will probably ride unlisenced as they cant afford to pay that sort of money.

From what I understand .. the Rider Safe ranges, courses and instructors are no longer Government funded - that is why the fees went up, as it needs to operate on it's own, without help from the all-powerful ever-full-of-money Government.

It makes sense too; the Government wouldn't be so cheeky as to increase rates by 300% - it'd cause too many ripples .. a body independent of the Government which NEEDS those increases to survive would happily do it though.

I'm not saying I like the increases; I had to pay $270 + the additional licence fee just a week ago .. so I know how crappy it is; but I really don't think it's the Government just trying to "get us", you know?

yes justin, but what justifycation did they give in withdrawing government funding in the courses, when they tout every budget that they have billions in excess funds ( excess to them, but drained from our pockets by every Devious way they can)

if ride safe was run as a seperate entity, as a business, then can they really demand that you go thru the course to get your STATE based licence?? if its not a government course then how can they demand that u go thru THEIR course??

justin your just stating the facts fed to you in gernalistic reports and government releases, not really answering the real question behind it all.

if Car licenses went up 300% there would be hell breaking out. but as we are a minority group with NO OTHER choices we are held to ransom for what we enjoy and love??

motor bikes cause less damage to the road, use less fuel, create less green house gas and polution, but we are charged far higher to obtain legal use of such clean efficient transport??

in the end.. ill pay wat it takes, but.. that is what the are depending on.

I'm not sure what justification they had - anything I say will just be as wishy washy as everything you're saying. The big bad Government is trying to siphon out all our money, OH NO!!!!!!!!!! Call the police!

And stating facts fed to me by gernalistic (sic) reports and Government releases?

Actually, it was from the two instructors at Rider Safe; I figured seeing as they're people actually INVOLVED in the situation they would have some viable information.

.. but please, feel free to keep the speculation and conspiracy theories going - the Government is out to get us, afterall.

PS: I personally think that an increase in cost will keep only dedicated riders on the road (at least it's more likely to than having the cost of licencing dirt cheap, which means essentially anyone can save up a few bucks and then legally hop on a bike); I also like the fact that instead of waiting 14 weeks for my course to be booked in - I only had to wait 2. Why? Less people signing up as a result of higher fees. Like I said, dedicated riders will pay it - and that's what we should have on our road by majority .. dedicated riders.

Mine were on a Tuesday and Wednesday, and it was 2.5 months, mate - and everyone else I've spoken to has had a similar experience.

If we're going to get into our personal definitions of what a dedicated rider is; mine would be that practicality and safety far surpass the need to ride ALL THE TIME.

Two of the first things you learn, especially at Rider Safe is that a) you don't ride in hail unless you're retarded, cool.gif riding at night or in the wet (or on a wet night) is the unsafest time to ride.

So being a "dedicated rider" has nothing to do with riding 24/7, and sleeping while you're on your bike and having a shower with it, eating breakfast on it, etc etc. It has to do with the motivation for riding, the dedication for riding. That is: no amount of fees anyone puts on a compulsory safety course for me to ride is going to stop me, nor is a stack here or there (as it will happen).

But riding rain, hail or shine can very easily be considered unecessarily unsafe - which is raising the odds of being a dead rider in the morgue. It may make you a constant or all-round rider, but saying you ride in the rain sooner makes you a risk taker than it does someone with dedication.

so in reality the only thing the increase of fees has done.. is Cut the waiting list by trippling the price to make majority of those who where applying now unable to afford it...
there for cutting the waiting list to improve the figures.

ok. i see the sense in that.

You dont have to be a dedicated rider to be keen on bikes. Every one of age has the right to have a liscence but making it expensive to get it is crap. Its a conspiracy i tell you. The reason the government has put up the fees as more and more people want to use bikes due to the increase in fuel and making cars more expensive to run. There for thay will save on a bike on fuel and the government will loose out. So thay up the anty for the liscences to deter people so thay dont loose out on fuel tax and make more cash in the meantime for the liscence fees. Its that simple. AMEN to the above on which Harly wrote,

one of the main reason why i wanted to get a bike, is the cost to run it day to day. i was spending $100 a week to fun the 280, and that was just on petrol. so some offed me more that i paid 4 the car, so i jumped at it. i was thinking bout gettin a bike b4 this had happen due to the petrol prices anyway, and now since hopping on one, and riding, its great!!!!!

tho i think is bullsh@%t the cost of getting ur licence now!!!!!!
fair enough $50=100 jump, but not to $305 what i paid, personly, i think it will result on ppl not paying 4 the course, and just jumping on the bike and riding with no licence. and im no fault of this my self.

well im off 2day to go get mine, today and 2morrow. i had to wait bout 2 weeks only cause of work, i cant do weekend, cause i work just bout every weekend. if it wasnt 4 that i could have had it in one week.

This is pretty much the only thing you've said which I think I even need to address, and it's simply to state that it's a ludicrous perspective to simply discredit everything the Government says because "[they] deny a lot of things".

Fees have increased, everyone thinks it's sux, let's get over it and move on - as opposed to continuing on a debate about the Government which actually has nothing to do with fact, and moreso just opinion.

Exactly, because there's people like us who simply discredit it every time it's brought up.

Don't be a hypocrite, read above - you've dismissed every opinion I've had with your own.

That's not having an opinion, mate, that's forcing your own onto others.

An opinion is: "i think the government did this to frak us over"

What you're saying is: "the government did this to frak us over, and whatever argument you bring up against me i'll just discredit by making general statements regarding how shady and deceitful the government is, without providing any facts"
DeL
but u havnt stated an opinion, u have repeated what u have been told by others. then by being condecending towards all other replys tried to discredit that which we have all expressed and felt as riders.

The government are just greedy farkers biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

and then the agreance from a person who chose to ride unlicenensed due to not being able to afford the fees...

QUOTE(joker4 @ Nov 1 2006, 09:33 AM)
AMEN to the above on which Harly wrote,

one of the main reason why i wanted to get a bike, is the cost to run it day to day. i was spending $100 a week to fun the 280, and that was just on petrol. so some offed me more that i paid 4 the car, so i jumped at it.  i was thinking bout gettin a bike b4 this had happen due to the petrol prices anyway, and now since hopping on one, and riding, its great!!!!!

tho i think is bullsh@%t the cost of getting ur licence now!!!!!!
fair enough $50=100 jump, but not to $305 what i paid, personly, i think it will result on ppl not paying 4 the course, and just jumping on the bike and riding with no licence.  and im no fault of this my self.

well im off 2day to go get mine, today and 2morrow.  i had to wait bout 2 weeks only cause of work, i cant do weekend, cause i work just bout every weekend.  if it wasnt 4 that i could have had it in one week.

yet you keep your condesending replys coming, bout conspiracys and " big bad goverment"

there is no conspiracy they arnt out to get " us" they have blatantly over charged a minority market knwoing full well they controll us in every way possible and can do as they please.

that is all we are trying to get at.

we are expressing our thoughst and feelings BASED on our own experiences.

if that is not allowed. then why the frk are we on a forum.

you can express how happy u are with it all day mate. but it wont change the fact thousands of motor cyclists out there are feeling the sting and thinking and feeling exactly like the above quotes.

i see no point in continuing this because its pretty clear we disagree.

theres a reason we wear helmets... its to prevent us hearing each other to argue wink.gif

so lets just ride our bikes n stfu wink.gif

but u havnt stated an opinion, u have repeated what u have been told by others. then by being condecending towards all other replys tried to discredit that which we have all expressed and felt as riders.

no one is carrying on about a conspiracy. we are voicing our concerns of the injustice of paying 300% increase on fees for nothing back in return, are we getting trained better??? nothing has changed...
*

I haven't stated an opinion, and only repeated what I've been told by others?

QUOTE(Jutsin @ Oct 31 2006, 03:02 PM)
PS: I personally think that an increase in cost will keep only dedicated riders on the road (at least it's more likely to than having the cost of licencing dirt cheap, which means essentially anyone can save up a few bucks and then legally hop on a bike); I also like the fact that instead of waiting 14 weeks for my course to be booked in - I only had to wait 2. Why? Less people signing up as a result of higher fees. Like I said, dedicated riders will pay it - and that's what we should have on our road by majority .. dedicated riders.
*

QUOTE(Jutsin @ Nov 1 2006, 12:31 AM)
Mine were on a Tuesday and Wednesday, and it was 2.5 months, mate - and everyone else I've spoken to has had a similar experience.

If we're going to get into our personal definitions of what a dedicated rider is; mine would be that practicality and safety far surpass the need to ride ALL THE TIME.

But riding rain, hail or shine can very easily be considered unecessarily unsafe - which is raising the odds of being a dead rider in the morgue. It may make you a constant or all-round rider, but saying you ride in the rain sooner makes you a risk taker than it does someone with dedication.
*

What's that then? Someone else typing on my computer?

.. and as far as no mention of conspiracy theories:

QUOTE(DeL @ Oct 31 2006, 02:26 PM)
yes justin, but what justifycation did they give in withdrawing government funding in the courses, when they tout every budget that they  have billions in excess funds ( excess to them,  but drained from our pockets by every Devious way they can)

if Car licenses went up 300% there would be hell breaking out.  but as we are a minority group with NO OTHER choices  we are held to ransom for what we enjoy and love??
*

QUOTE(DeL @ Nov 1 2006, 12:42 AM)
so in reality the only thing the increase of fees has done.. is Cut the waiting list by trippling the price to make majority of those who where applying now unable to  afford it...

That was on a quick look - I'm sure more can be found if it was really necessary smile.gif

Anything else, Craig?

PS: You'll find my whole standpoint in this was not really minding the fee increase, it was done for a reason, and I'm more than happy to pay it to do what I love. The fact that the majority have an opinion different to mine does not in any way mean I'm going to back down - if that's what you're getting at smile.gif

It is borderline criminal the fee increase that has been thrust upon us bike riders with seemingly no reason what so ever. I remember paying 75 bux for my learners and about 85 for my bike date ( restricted license). From our perspective there is no real reason for this as we see no value for money. Its the same corse in the same venues with the same instructors. I know cos i ride with the instructor Greg justin mentioned above. Its a joke but so many of the thigs our government does is a joke but we are too laid back to stand up and smash shit up till they back down. i wish us as a people would stand up and demand changes to certain issues but the government likes their money and we as a people like our easy hassle free life style. i'm just glad i got in when i did or i might ride un licensed too. as not many cops can catch a big bike through the hills tongue.gif

i dnt know wat to say about that little dispute.. whats done is done,
i paid $305 because it will mean i will have more availability hours at work which i desperatly need, i have no one to drive in a car with on my L's.. its cheap to run, iv always admired them and fudge i cant wait for the feeling of freedom.. wen i pass it will be another $25 for the actual licence card, $270 for my P's and wateva other costs im willing and wanting to pay them. i could have had my ridersafe course within a week, but i was pretty booked up for a few weeks and im going next monday and tuesday 8am at st agnes..

i bought my helmet a few days ago, cant upload piccys from the puter im using atm but im sure you know what they look like tongue.gif its pink, has wikid white, gold and black designs on it and i cant wait to use it biggrin.gif also bought my gloves wen i got my helmet, i paid $310 for the both of them.. next iv gotta find a cool jacket and iv gotta remember to buy some sorta locking for my bike..

Anything you can do to slow the buggers down is highly desirable. Disk locks which have a pin that locates through one of the holes on the front disk ( usually) and locks so the wheel can't turn are quick and easy, can also be transported around with you quite easily for use at shops etc. Cable locks as craig mentioned above are also good. Use both if you can afford it. The Chain idea is good but constant fitting / removal will chip rims and make them look shabby in a matter of weeks unless the chain has a cover or coating over it. The alarm disk lock craig has mentioned would be ideal and if i didn't have a dog and a locked garage i'd be doing the same. As for when i'm out in public it hardly leaves my sight. As anyone stuffing with my bike will be picking teeth up out of the gutter. mad.gif

Learn as much as you can, and don't be affraid to ask the instructors anything you're not clear on.

Recent events have prompted me to re fit a numberplate device to my bike. Its crazy they make 180 odd horsepower hyper sport bikes to do 300kph and expect you to ride around at 80 km/h its soooooo friggin boring ( driving miss daisty style). I have had one fitted before and after recently getting a fine out on a piece of open road i'v decided its time to fight back against the revenue raising tackticks of our government in the most efective way possible. Anyone who is interested or wants one let me know i'll help you do it.
Harley
Yeah let me no im keen biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
BOOSTING
i'll get it fitted and let you know then i can show you how to do it. Its adaptable to nearly all bilkes and it cost me about 30 bux and 2 hours to fit. the bebefits are If you get caught with it it costs you $380 bux which is close or equal to the higher bracket of speeding fines, BUT you get to keep your license and also don't loose any points at all. I don't use it all the time its more of a piece of mind thing for me. I ride normally to my fav destination "flip it" ride how i want to then get to a town flip it back llooks totally normal. there are a few tricks to fitting and making it basically invisible but i can show whoever is interested.

I'm just pissed at the government targeting us. Hidden camera's to catch us on the most popular bike roads, hiking up the cost of our licneses and having defect blitzes aimed at bikes. it sux. time to fight back.

Here's a web sight for a similar product concept http://www.speedflip.com/

mine's chaper and less bulky and also mine runs off the bike battery no little batteries to go flat but thats an idea.

how many chances do you get tho if you get something wrong, how lenient are they on the advanced test...

Yeah, I mentioned earlier that the NS/NSRs are two stroke and therefore would require more maintenance .. I wasn't sure if that put you off them or not, so I thought I'd post it here just in case smile.gif

All good CBRs will be between the $4000 - 5500 mark. Any less than 4 and you know something is wrong, any more than 5.5 and you're really spending way too much for your first bike.

For what you get though, that 4 - 5.5 mark is reasonable, and I would have happily paid more for mine if need be.. they're the best looking and sportiest bikes (in my opinion) that you can get learner legal - apart from the Aprilia's (which are more like 7-9k for cost), and on par with the Yamaha's (which I never see around anyway).

Have you seen my bike yet, Monica? I can't remember :/

is it a heavy bike? i know you love it and recomended CBRs bcoz of it but do ya think a small girl like me would find it comfortable and watnot? if so i mite check these out and bring my helpful negotiator along biggrin.gif
Jutsin
They have a dry weight between 153kg - 158kg.

Which is on par, or even lighter than some of the bikes you've been looking at.

CBR is built moreso for performance than a lot of the other 250s, which means they try to make it weigh less too smile.gif

* Edit: Having said that, I'm not sure what the big deal about weight is? If you drop it, there's ways to pick up your bike properly so you're not just dead-lifting the weight .. and otherwise the bike essentially keeps itself upright (gyro effect and such). So in what context are you worried about it's weight :S?

possibly easier for me to handle.. if i need to push it for some silly reason it wuldnt kill me.. if for an even stupider reason its fallen on me it wont be too hard to get out and lift it up even if im hurt.. smaller bikes are a bit more comfortable iv found.. to sit on and i just feel im in more control with something a bit smaller..

congratulations monica,

the Zx2r, 141 kg, the ZZr 148kg and the GPX 138kg are kawasakis and all learner legal, and all "faired"

looks like your keen on a sports bike, the zx2r is similer style to the CBR, in the fact its a 4 cyl and high revving super sports 250cc, where as the zzr and the GPX are more sports orientated parallel twins,

wat ever bike u end up on.. make sure your comfortable first.. over the overall looks of it.
after all your saftey is the first issue to think of, than how cool u look.

good luck in the hunt! and welcome to the small select group of people out there that know the true freedom on our roads...

i still wouldnt suggest a NSR as a first bike. the behavoural charatoristics of the sports two strokes would down right scare you. and probably hurt you more than anything.

the advice given above by justin and craig is all spot on im my opinion. there is a lot to think about when buying a bike my best advice would be don't rush. Go test ride as many bikes as you can as even the same model can have 2 bikes that feel different, thats the difference between one thats been looked after and one thats been thrashed/ neglected you will notice the difference by feel of the bike how smooth/ quiet it is etc. Take a good mechanically minded friend with you to check it out too. Good luck buying your first bike is an exciting experience.

i have one piece of advice for ALL of u. never ride a bike in shorts.. n if you absolutely must.. keep as far away from the exhaust as possible.. cuz it gets FCKIN hot. n it burns MASSIVE holes in peoples legs.
that is all smile.gif

i can attest to that too bec, i have a nice lil burn on my leg, and so does my litle brother, back in our dirt bike days,

howd u burn yourself on justins?? surely your legs are clear of the pipes even when a pillion?

and we want pics!

gash of the month... injuries are always a good tlaking point..

a nice photo of boostings would be good!

my scars are pretty well healed.. only feint now from m,y dirt biking accidents...
Harley
My bike is 280kgs dry weight and when you add just over 20ltrs of fuel i reckon that would get it close to 300kgs

And about the burns hahaha ive seen it 1st hand on a Harley. My mates x had a massive burn about the size of your palm when she was on the back ridding while ridding with these boys and i tell you what for a little girl she held it in and didnt cry as she didnt want these boys to see that but that night when i seen her my god i wouldnt have. went for a ride with justin last night up old willunga hill rd did a couple of laps of that then went down past kuitpo forrest to the meadows road then back through there to clarendon. after clarendon you can turn right for a very tight cornered road which leads to the back of blackwood we went up and back as you get the hang of it better the 2nd time. Back to clarendon again then home the back way to hackham. Was a fun ride i only have about 1mm of unused rubber on my back tire now so i'm getting damn close to scraping the foot pegs on the road. If i had knee sliders on leather pants i would be able to put my knee down i'm getting that close. Might have to invest in a set of leathers if i continue like this. I swear these things are so much more fun to ride when you don't care if you live or die, If your always worried about hurting your self and stuff you always hold back but the mood i've been in the last 2 weeks has enabled me to basically haul some seroius arse. I swear these things are so much more fun to ride when you don't care if you live or die, If your always worried about hurting your self and stuff you always hold back but the mood i've been in the last 2 weeks has enabled me to basically haul some seroius arse. You end up going so much faster and cranking harder than you would usually.

Something I've been told since day 1 of being interested in bikes .. our bike will do a lot more for us than we give it credit for. It will lean over harder, accelerate quicker, and brake faster than we will ever properly let it.

Skill and familiarity gives you the ability to unlock extra potential that the bike has .. but I think that not caring about injury or possible death will open that door even further biggrin.gif

PS: I also find I enjoy riding much more when I ride aggressively (ie: lean tight into corners, accelerate and brake much harder, etc).

My moods can be inconsistent though, so some days I'll go out quite happy to test the limits - other days it's more of a cruisey feel laugh.gif

PPS: I think it's the fact you worry less about possible bad outcomes and just DO IT (as Nike would say); so the corners end up smoother, backed by confidence and no second-guessing or unecessary-correcting.

Monica got herself a jacket for dirt cheap today, and has the offer of a further discount on a wheel lock if she goes back to the same place.

I said it a few times earlier (ie: suggestion to Monica, and also where I bought my own leathers and gloves); but I'll say it again for ANYONE looking for accessories and shit:

ADELAIDE MOTORCYCLE ACCESSORIES
271 Morphett Street, Adelaide CBD.

The owner is helpful, but fairly grumpy - but the prices are as LOW as you will ever find, no question about it.

It's all new stuff, and all top quality (same as you'd find in any other motorcycle accessory store). If you're buying stuff before even looking at this place then you are mentally retarded laugh.gif laugh.gif

went for a ride with justin last night up old willunga hill rd did a couple of laps of that then went down past kuitpo forrest to the meadows road then back through there to clarendon. after clarendon you can turn right for a very tight cornered road which leads to the back of blackwood we went up and back as you get the hang of it better the 2nd time. Pushing the limits and having to much confidence can lead to disaster. Remeber your on PUBLIC roads sharing it with others. You may trust your self but how about some one coming the opposite direction

Have your fun on your bike yeah but just be carefull. Dirt on the road or a fallen branch around that cnr that you going high speeds can lead to disaster. Just been to many wreckd sports bikes out in the hills in the past few months and i dont wana see any of you guys been one of them

Joker, i cant ride this weekend, well on the sunday i cant due to lunch with my father and brothers,

not sure wat im doing sat night..
dream*catcher
HAHAHAHAHA i bought it!!!!

on my break i did about 20 laps around the block.. its such a fantastic bike!

SHHH i gotta share this becoz of the adrenaline and endorfins that went rushing thru my body, wen i got back i told all my workmates that they had to get motorbikes tongue.gif and i dnt want any safety lectures, there was hardly anyone on the road, really it was more dangerous driving it to work halfway accross the city in peak hour traffic than doing 110km/hr between morphett street and west tce down grote street at 11:30pm on a wonderful clear night biggrin.gif

had to get it out of my system smile.gif and driving down main north road at 2am wen no ones around.. gotta test some limits.. until a car gets too close too fast and you slow down again..

this is trully better than skydiving! and i can have it wenever i want.. as i said to justin, im happy to do the speed limit, its all the stopping that spoils it. with no one else around it was easy to take it really slowly coming up to a red light, but with cars around.. well theres a bit more pressure to take off with the others and if you go too slow someone wiill probly go in front of you.. oh and wen youv got a car right up your ass on your first road ride its not too cool.. its nothing like the ridersafe course. at all. its great, cant wait till im a top rider, cant wait to go on a cruise with all of yas.. might need some more practice alone so i dnt feel pressured from you, coz i probly wuld.. and ill probly be asking for lots more late night shifts from work tongue.gif biggrin.gif

i am one really fraking happy girl! biggrin.gif
DeL
just remeber, while on your Ls u have 1 point... so dont lose it! or u lose your licence...

ride slow n safe for a whiel monica.. 110km an hr in city.. i dont recommend!! ( ive done.. but dont recomend tongue.gif )

u dont want to lose the freedom u just gained! and u dont want to be another statistic of young riders.

so take it easy for a while.. the bike u have got, is plenty of fun for anyone.. and especially some one of your light size wink.gif

ride safe!

ride with you soon biggrin.gif
dream*catcher
wink.gif i think if i got cought doing 110km/hr especially in the city i would lose my licence no matter how many points i had tongue.gif

all very valid points tho smile.gif
Jutsin
I rode around by myself for a good month or two before I went out with anyone else .. for that exact reason, I didn't want to be nervous or feel pressured, or perform outside of my capabilities.

It's the best idea .. go night riding for as much as you need, then start doing it during the day too - you'll know when you're confident enough.. and at which point I'm only 5 minutes away and we can ride as much as you like biggrin.gif
dream*catcher
mm i would be too embarrassed every time i stall.. i keep getting out of the clutch too fast, iv improved, also changing gears i could improve on, sometimes i can do it perfectly smooth, but its not consistent... i should try n use these night rides wen im alone on the road to practice these things. hmm today iv gotta meet my mum in the city at 4pm, i start work at 10pm and finish at 2am again.. i wouldnt have a problem taking it to work, but i think ill leave peak hour city practice alone for a bit longer.. even tho i want to so much.. tongue.gif

ah yes, insurance...?? any recomendations to certain ones or what i shuld make sure i get in my insurance

at bills motorcycles they offered me a warranty for 12months, if engine, gearbox/transmisssion frak up theyll give me up to $2000 to fix each. if cooling system, electrical, braking, fuel system, final drive screw up they will give me up to $1000 each...

also would love one of you guys to teach me how to maintain and service my bike. this is prety important to me, i wana keep this in top condition for many years to come, but i dnt have a clue where to start, i wana learn as much as possible smile.gif

Well done monica and congratulations. 110km/h in the city is instant loss of license. I talk about doing spastic speeds from time to time but i've been riding for over 8 yers dirt and road so be careul. especially when your a learner you especially have to hone your skills before being to controll a bike accurately at speed.

today i drove it thru the city, to bills motorcycles, to get my rego papers, they ddnt have them at the time tho.. gotta remember to do that tomoro/today, kept driving down to my old highschool, cabra, near cross rd and goodwood rd, caught up with some of my best mates i hadnt seen since i left.. smile.gif
oh yeah i filled her up for the first time tongue.gif probly sounds wierd that im telling you.. its like when you have a baby, and you take note of their first smile, or first words.. today/yesterday was the first time i gave her that premium fuel of life smile.gif LMAO when i paid for the fuel i was almost gonna tell the guy that served me that it was the first time i had filled up my bike and he was part of it tongue.gif i ddnt tho, i was in too good a mood to be laughed at
after visiting cabra i rode her back to work.. this would be about 2pmish. parked it.. my boss got to sit on it.. he went outside and i was still inside n next thing i hear the alarm going off.. tongue.gif met up with my parents..they picked me up from the tafe building, it probly took three minutes before my dad was trying to prove to me that he knew more about my bike than i do.. ended up in a fight as usual, i walked out, went back to work, my mum came after me and i showed her my baby, revved it up for her n all tongue.gif shes a stupid lady but im happy i can do that to my mum without any bad comments back smile.gif
anyways, i know this was a little silly but once she left i hoped on my bike n did a couple of laps of the block.. i was feeling down from my dad so i needed a pick me up and wen i got back to work it was like nothing had happened.. i love how riding can do that!!
left work at about 3am, took me 25minutes to get home doing the speed limit and going thru one or two yellow/red lights..
tomoro the bike stays at home untill its time to head out for some raving magic tongue.gif

hmm after filling up with premium fuel i dnt think iv stalled it once.. dunno if it had really shit fuel in it or if i am just improving with every hour i spend riding.. smile.gif

BOOSTING
Premium fuel does make cars/ bikes run smoother + have a little more power so you are right when you think it runs better. Practice on your bike too will make you ride better too so its probably a little of both over the next few months you will improve in leaps and bounds. The best advice i got when i was learning is don't concentrate on going fast as such just try and be smooth. the smoother you are the quicker you ultimately go. Its more of a racers hint but works well in the hills and on the streets. Well done monica can't wait to ride with you. biggrin.gif

I use BP Ultimate in my bike and use to in my Harley. All the boys i know who ride Harley always use BP Ultimate. High Compresson motors should be using this fuel. Its 10 cents dearer but if you constantly use it its more efficient
dream*catcher
biggrin.gif kewl. i highly value all the advice you can dish out smile.gif

im getting it out of my system. last night on my way home i made sure i kept as close to the speed limit as i culd.. twas a wild ride but just having the right to ride her should be good enuf..
illl definatly be puting money away to get on a race track.. id love to just have a long straight, flat road with some perfect condition to see exactly how fast she can go.. wednesday night there was NO ONE on main nth road, so i wanted to see just that, but where i decided to test it it was a tiny bit hilly, so the cold air was getting under me, n i ddnt like how less control i had of the bike.. but in a controlled environment, with the conditions above id absolutly love to, n maybe once a month give it a good flex.. where can we do these things that often?

BP ultimate is by far the most relable fuel as some of the others just don't "feel" as good i've noticed that on my bike. As for doing speed runs get caught anywhere and you will get in a heap of troubble especially on your learners. there are places less likely to get caught waaaaay out country but i wouldn't recomend it till you get a little bit more expereince up first.

rofl if i ever get flashing lights behind me MY GOD will i be upset, id want to protect my right to drive my bike.. but speeding away could make it worse.. could just be something simple that theyr pulling me over for.. it wont happen..
had a chat with my boss, one of my managers has lost his car licence about 4 times now, first for speeding, then having less points n getting stupid demerits taken.. but becoz in his contract he needs his own transport to get to work hes kept it the last few times.. my boss was saying, depending on how fast im going wen i get pulled over he'll right a letter doing the same for me as my manager

not gonna happen tho smile.gif

I've had a cop pull me over after going througha breatho, i thought i was in the shit but i'd only had one beer. While your on your learners etc follow the road rules to the letter, especially since getting the license is so damn expensive now.

the ultimate bike tuner in adlelaide is neville lush down at victor harbor. He's an authorised power comander dealer which is basically a fully programable Fuel injection computer.
There are other bike tuners in adelaide which are probably closer and just as good on a standard bike one of the dealer ships would be ok to go to. they are thourough and work on those bikes all the time and most people know do something often enough you evantually get good at it. So go to one of the honda dealerships.

Well I love bikes, but doing stupid things like 110km/hr down grote street is F#@KIN Stupid.... especially seeing you have only just got your liscence and got a bike. Therefore you are not an experienced rider and are not familiar with the bike so doing those speeds in the city, you are asking to become as statistic.

Geez Monica, have fun, but pull your head in and learn the bike and gain experience before you start doing stupid speeds. Those sort of things are not to be done in a 50km/hr zone!!

learn your bike and gain valuable experience in riding before you attempt those things and yes places like Mallala are best suited for it.

If somebody edged out of a side street, what would you have done.. Probably paniced and dropped your bike..

I have done stupid things before, so I am no exception, but I had been riding since I was a kid and knew what to do, when to do it and how to do it. And yes, I too had accidents and paid for it in many ways...

Ride SMART and you will have fun and still be safe! and not endanger others..

Good point leon. i'm not one to be telling you off by all means but there are times and places for most things. Experience is something they can't teach you only help you to learn and lets face it can't gain experience if your dead. Take it easy monica while you learn your bike and then i'll show ya sone FUN roads but get the feel of the bike first. how long it takes to brake etc keep practicing your emergency breaking, YOU WILL NEED IT one day no doubt about it it will save your life it did with me.
