ford all the way, and as to tech in jap vs old teck in some american engines, go down to the local drag strip (if we had a working one

) but anyway go to a drag strip now see one of those engines, say a 400 Cu inch hemi, they still run push rods yet alas they rev to 9000 RPM and now ill hear some import fans saying that their engines rev to 14000, so what, 8 litres reving to 9000 rpm is still a lot more potential air flow and thus power than a 2 litre reving to 14000, more cillinders means more even and consise power delivery, and now, back to the push rod issue these engines while revving to those high values with push rods, and making over 5000 HP and yet they still dont break, try and see a jap engine make over 1000 HP like that and not have reliability issues. and to really have a fair race between a jap car and an aussie car take the hair dryer off, race completley NA and see who wins, and without a turbo the cars engine will last far far far longer than it would even with a low powered turbo setup, so another reason for a big displacement NA engine vs a small displacement turbo engine. now back to the new age, both holden and ford have developed high teck engines now, and because im a ford fan ill use the straight six 4 litre turbo six, a company in victoria is now developing a 1000 KW kit for the engine, u pull the bottom end of the engine out clean the stock, STOCK, internals up getting rid of the casting lines etc, then u bolt a cross rack (cant remember the exact name) below the bearing caps which tightens up the bottom of the block, then u take the head polish it up, lower the compression a tad, then put it all back together, now change exhaust, intake, and bigger intercooler, and then all u have to do is wind up the boost as they do in this kit to about 25 PSI and now ur looking at over 1100 KWs reliably, the engine was proven to run for a few weeks at this power load and after a strip down no signs of wear and tear on the components or stress was apparent. try and see the skyline engine making those sorts of power figures

, its a similar story with the holden's new engine. even the ecotec can be made to make significant power figures with minimal modifications. and then on top of all this u have a bigger car that should u crash wont crumple up into a tiny bit of metal and ull be laying in a hospital bed vs laying 9 feet below the ground a few weeks later. and if u say ah but u wont crash in an import, well u pay 18 grand for a 1990 import like a skyline etc, vs paying 18 for a 2 or so yhear old ford, now which car is gonna have the better suspension, 1990 technology or 2005 technology and even with money spent on it same on both the difference will still be aparent.
ah well thats my 2 words worth

and go ford u still hold the crown, bathurst.
and i prefer ford because up untill the VE commodore the shape of them hasnt been overly great, and i cant explain why but i prefer the feel of the ford when im driving it.
Reading your post i'm presuming your replying to a lot of what i said in my post about jap tech being advanced copared to the same year manufacture aussie built cars cars.
"so what, 8 litres reving to 9000 rpm is still a lot more potential air flow and thus power than a 2 litre reving to 14000, more cillinders means more even and consise power delivery"
You forget that some imports eg drag cars if thats what we are basing this on hav bigger than 2L motors some of the soarers have a 4L twin cam multivalve V8 these bottom ends will handle 1000hp in untouched stock trim not many morots will do that and you may say well a 4L motor will not flow as much as a 8L! Yes but a lot of drag cars use turbo's and run pressures in exess of 28PSI thats 2 x normal atmospheric pressure so that means a 4L will flow as much air as a 8L motor and possibly more due to better designed intakes/ exhaust higher boost pressures and more valves. Also the 1UZFE 4L toyota V8 also has 6 bolt man caps 4 in from the bottom and 2 from the side which is why a jap v8 will take 1000hp in un touched stock trim.
"and making over 5000 HP and yet they still dont break, try and see a jap engine make over 1000 HP like that and not have reliability issues"
I bet you any money an engine to put out 5000Hp will have reliability issues old school v8 or not. They will not last forever. The more power you push out the lesser the life span of the motor will be no mater how much $$$ you spend.
"and to really have a fair race between a jap car and an aussie car take the hair dryer off, race completley NA "
Thats not a fair race thats racing an engine built for non turbo against a decompressed engine that was designed for turbo pressures not std atmospheric pressure.
