Clipsal 500 Working Or Watching?

Well folks!

time has come yet again for the mightiest touring car race in the world!

so here is a thread, for those of us planning to go, and for those of us who work there each year

ill start...

im going again..

worked last 2 years

2004 Chicane Flag marshal 4 days, saw some awesome action including being official observer when we had a 16 ute pile up on the 1st lap of saturdays racing! 5 utes on tow trucks to damaged to race and 11 others with various damages.

they come thru 2 wide on hot tires on a a clean track 180km an hr is possible on a good lap in good conditions

these are ute drivers.. who drive like ute drivers... IE 180km 4-5 wide COLD tires on a dirty track.. CARNAGE!!!

many other highlights!


2005 worked the start finish line as a tracky, was so much to see!!! and all of it on two legs!!!

somany hot pit girls.. and promo girls.. and grid girls...

oh... and cars going past at 200+km in a straight line.. a great position to watch the pit girls etc.. but a dud position to 'work'

tho our highlight this year was watching an aussie car ( those miniture falcon and commdoore FJ and '40's Fiords) get a tow after it blew its engine..

drivers responsible for leaving ignition on steering lock off and in nuetral..

ignition off lock ON at full lock and hear box in gear...

INSTANT FLIP AND ROLL! driver sitting inside unharnassed and now upside down!



this year..


im working 7.5 as a tracky (even tho flags is more prestigious, i nominated as tracky as its more fun) half way down the first section of the back straight. so another chance to watch the race on the big screens and sit around and enjoy the day.


once again this year ill have a few tickets for sale. as i take anything up to 4 days off work to work as a volunteer i try tio recoup my weeks wages via the entrance tickets i receive. a few peopel last year had the opertunity to go thru cheap tickets when i offered. so i hope to help people out again

1 General admission for each day, prices will range but all will be cheaper than from clipsal themselves,

and the big one

1 ALL ACCESS PASS for 4 days, THIS CANNOT BE SPLIT it is a solid 4 day pass that can go anywhere with me, and anywhere the public is allowed to go during the days racing. i will confirm yes/no on pit access, as each year has been different.

I'm not a huge fan of the supercars.. But being a motorsport fan I still enjoy it being on while I'm on the PC or doing stuff

Mate you wouldn;t believe the petrol head i am and i have never been to a motorsport event F1 or clipsal in adelaide. I've been to the drags etc but not to one of these will be looking forward to it. I'm going on the sunday which is cool, race day. First real corporate work do for this company before. Will be watching it with some of our bigger customers who we all service and get along well with. Can't wait i've been slaving my arse off well turning up most days anyhow for this joint for 5 years bout time i recon haha will be a lot of fun.

you will love it, if u want a ticket to saturday under general admission, yell out. the thursday and friday have all the support racing the saturday is the main races.

but the thurs/friday i think are the most fun!

Im going Sat. Working for Clipsal i am entitled to discounted tickets so i went to put in for some on Monday but the closing date was on Friday. Im spewing as my brouchure says feb 26th. Oh well looks like i have to go to bass and get.

And all i can say is go the FORDS

Just a general bud for the Sat. I reckon its the best day by far but i have my boss chasing some up with in Clipsal it self so i dont wana commit to anything just yet untill i find out if they can scam a couple hopefully i will find out by the end of the day

best thing bout teh employee passes is you get all areas access pretty much. its damn awesome. get your pass first thing, wander around everywhere, tehn go work and watch the race form pit straight.

Peter Brock .... bathurst went off last october because of his death... porta-loos with fireworks in them goin flying.... psycho.

unfortunately signed stuff from brock is not worth as much as people expected as it was not rare to get signed stuff he was always signing things anyone who tried got one, he would sit there for hours signing. even though it would probably be worth something not too much i would suspect

I work in town, just off hutt st, every bloody year its the same, roads blocked, no parking and the noise is so great I can't even answer my own phone...

I honestly dont think anyone near that track can answer their phone durin a race... especially the Formula Fords ... and their loud high pitched .. AGH i'm going to grab ear-plugs this year

not going...no desire to...and hate the way this event congests traffic and causes adelaide to experience 5 days of drunken Madness and shenanigans...that said, that's simply my opinion, and i hope everyone who likes this event enjoys themselves! now...where's my shotgun to fend off drunken wankers?

Keep in mind i only sell these tickets to try and recouperate the 3-4 days wages that i lose by working at the clipsal each year as a volunteer. i am not paid a sent for 50hrs of work in 4 days.

I kinda have to agree with this sentiment, after living on North Terrace next to the Botanic & dealing with drunkard Clipsal dicks in their Ford & Holden "colours" throwing beer bottles through our front window & urinating on our front door.

But, as always - it's a few stupid ones who spoil the reputation of the whole event. It does bring a whole lotta revenue & attention to Adelaide - which can only be a good thing......and we don't live on North Terrace anymore!!

tho dave at the ARK is a security guard i met at clipsal last year.. he was amazed to find out i wasnt sticking round to hold the crowd back after the race...

DRAMATIC talks were underway last night to save the integrity of the V8 Supercar championship after two of the leading teams were thrown out of the series.

The famous Holden Racing Team and reigning champions Toll HSV Dealer – two of the biggest motor racing outfits in the nation – have been banned from the 2007 V8 Supercar championship.

The ban threatens the immediate future of the reigning V8 Supercar champion Rick Kelly and his Toll co-driver Garth Tander.

But even more dramatically, the ban threatens the future of the Holden Racing Team – the most famous team name in the sport.

HRT is also the most successful team in the history of Australian motorsport and has been home to some of the sport's greatest driving names – Peter Brock, Mark Skaife and Craig Lowndes.

Skaife and his co-driver Todd Kelly, who won Bathurst in 2005, were still testing their new Commodore yesterday in Victoria preparation for the coming season.

The ban, less than two weeks before the opening round of the 2007 season, has sent shockwaves through the motorsport industry.

The Touring Car Entrants Group, which licences V8 Supercar race teams, cancelled the licences of both teams over an ownership issue.

At the centre of the ban is the position of the powerful Holden personality Tom Walkinshaw.

Under TEGA rules, no two V8 teams are allowed to be owned by the same person.

For the past 12 months – with evidence of close co-operation between HRT and Toll – TEGA has asked the teams for clarification of their ownership.

When last Friday no such information was forthcoming TEGA, sighting an "unwillingness of both organisations to reveal their ownership structures" revoked their licences.

Officially, HRT is owned by Mark Skaife while the Toll team is owned by the Kellys' father, John Kelly. However, the position of Walkinshaw clouds the ownership issue.

He is a former owner of HRT who returned to the Australian racing scene at the start of the 2006 season ostensibly as general manager of both HRT and Toll.

A controversial driver swap program between HRT and Toll paired the Kelly boys and saw Skaife link with Tander for the last year's Sandown and Bathurst events.

The move was seen as trademark Walkinshaw, the reasoning being no one else in the sport is powerful enough to have been able to extract such co-operation in the often acrimonious world of V8 Supercars.

The move incensed TEGA officials who are headed by the experienced motor racing administrator Kelvin O'Reilly.

Last night O'Reilly initiated a "mediation meeting" with senior Holden executives to try to resolve the matter before the start of the season.

was a good day on track. very quiet for us... lots to perve on.. but i dont have a camera with me this year.

the silly people at teh gfate gave me a green pass instead of a red one... i had to tell every security guard that they fraked up and i WAS meant to be in that zone....
