I have been chatting to a few people and have come to realise a few of us are into remote control cars etc. What do you have/ what do you want or like. Post all your chit chat here, help requests, helpful hints and tips.

I just bought myself a birthday/ christmas present its a nirto powered 4wd Subaru Imprezza WRC 2006. its sooooo much fun even thought i'm still running it in and have only done 3 of the required 4 tanks. Even at 2/3 throttle it does wild 4wd power slides up and down the road. i have no idea what the speed of this thing is but WOW it was sooo much better than expected. The engine is a .15 which is the smallest engine i have ever worked on but for the size what power they produce. I burn out the glow plug the other day as i was messing around getting the feel of the car and tuning it, so off to the model shop today.

What do the rest of you have.
DeLr
we used to have a couple of them when i was panel beating done up in our work shop colours, gas powered ones like yours.

few mates have the electric ones they are great fun!

im actually considering a purchase of one soon, so might coem join ya's!

ive always been interested in teh planes and boats aswell.

my father has a couple of remote controlled sailing boats, alot slower than your talking.. but still alot of fun!
toby74r
my bro-in-law runs a couple of RC choppers (being a chopper mechanic by trade) and at least one of the guys here at work flys rc planes, but i'm just an avid spectator!

i did see a cool race down on the torrens lake a few weeks back - big rc speedboats doing laps and crashing into each other - noisy, smelly, wet fun smile.gif

DeLr
when i was growing up we uswed to have to row our boat out and pick up the petrolpowered boats for some neighbours, these thinsg where 3-4foot long! did about 60km an hr on water.. was phenominal speeds and excitment when your only 9-10...

few guys that where regular renters raced offroad RC's and they where telling me of the " big frkrs" using whipper snipper engines.. cost about 2k to build/buy/set up properly but had massive speed and power.

the sailing yatchs, are very technical, as u need to work with the wind, and understand the technicalities of sailing to do it properly, sail position beating into the wind and running with it etc, plus the added difficulties of currents and other boats effecting your wind etc.

my father ( as some of u know ive only just met) and i both share a love of the ocean and sailing, so im thinking this is a good chance for us to have some of that father son time to talk shit and get to know each other.

Just picked up some platniun tipped glow plugs from hobby habbit on daws road 8 bux each not bad. These guy's have got them selves one hell of a store its huge. Every part you can imagine and also out the back they have a 2 race tracks one dirt and one concrete. can't remember the cost but you pay a certain amount not much i don't think for the day and you can race all day. Best part is if you bust something just go next door to the front of the shop and buy a new one. i love the place and when i learn to controll this thing a little better i'm going racing. thay have amateur drift nights on wed too so might go for a look.

i bought a mini nitro car but replaced the top witha subaru cus i didnt wanna scratch the nice paint work :-) i also have 2 electric skylines, one has a lancer evo shell on it @ the moment. and i also have a plane called an uglee stick. when i get a chance i'll take a photo of them all togeher and post it on here.
march Er
i justwant a remote controlled clock so i can speed up and slow down time while im at work.

RC Choppers .. now that's what I would want if I ever got into this as a hobby biggrin.gif

What sort of cost are you looking at to get started, and general upkeep? Not necessarily for Choppers, even for cars .. BOOSTING?

Ive got an Indoor RC Chopper. Cost me about $80 i think.

Highly recomended!!! These things are awesome!! Get one of these before you buy a bigger outdoor chopper.

$80 even better! i know you can get simple ones at a hobby shop near lecornu's for about $200 (chopper, remote, batteries all good to go), and i agree that it's a good idea to get one of these fellas before going the full on complex-realistic-dooziewatsit.

i have seen the simple ones being flown around indoors quite safely, but my new bro has a new (complex) one and is practising to fly it upside down!

brapdatr
yeah the upside down crazytown ones are awesome but need lots and lots and lots of practce and cash to fix em when you smash them up.

Im gonna buy another indoor one but one which has more power, weight and has a tail prop so i can go faster.
Dont really have the time to go down the park or have access to a large indoor area so this will suit me fine.

In the instructions of my car it says if you consider mechanics a continual up hill battle maybe an eletric car is more suited to you ha ha ha laugh.gif so there is a lot of tuning/ up keep with these things so if you are not competant with mechanical tasks maybe look at somethng eletric.

I tell ya i like the sound of those indoor choppers though can someone get details??? smile.gif
brapdatr
Just look on youtube mate, heeps of info and vids of them. There is a Video of mine in there aswell. Search rc chopper maztrix and you should be able to find it.

indoor choppers vary alot, u can get the "toys" that just have an up/down, spin left/spin right type motion for about $80, these are fun and very simple to fly, but just remember, its always gonna be moving forward to some degree because of the way it is weighted, they cant hover or move from side to side, just forwards and spin. then for about $130 of e-bay you can get a fixed pitch electric, it has pretty much all the movements of a propper helicopter would have and its height is determined by the speed of the motor, these copters can be fun to play with inside or outside when there is no wind but WILL take a hell of a lot of practice and you WILL smash it @ some stage.

then u can get a variable pitch helicopter where is has the full motions of a normal helicopter but height is determined by motor speed to some degree but mainly by the pitch or angle of the rotor blades, these helicopters have the potential to fly easier and do tricks like barrel rolls and loop the loop, and if you get a 3D version, even fly upside down.

then you can get a 3D nitro that can handle wind up to a certain degree, but thats all gonna cost you about $2000.

the best helicopter to learn on is a indoor practice helicopter from the model shop. it has dual rotor on top, i think its called coaxual blades or something, its MUCH more stable and unless blown by wind, cant tip over, and the blades are dirt cheap. with a practice helicopter properly set up, you can basically set the throttle to hover, and put the transmitter down and it will just sit their.

i will be getting a chopper @ some stage, probably a variable pitch electric, but i have had some flying experiance. and have a propper model helicopter simulator called REFLEX that plugs in to mu JR Propo X2610 transmitter that i use for helicopters and my plane.

hope this all helps :-)

Sweet, nice info morph well thats told me heaps. I've always loved R/C choppers etc but i know Choppers remote and real ones are hard to fly at first and take a LOT of praactice. will still look into it though. I'm cutting my teeth so to speak on nitro cars as i really want to get into planes at some stage.

check out the second link in the first post if you havent already.

Im keen for one of them!
BOOSTINGr
Ahh yes i remember seeing that when first posted that is a wicked concept.

boostin, if ur interested in planes, i have 1 and some mates that fly, u can come out 2 the air field @ some stage and have a look, see if it still interests u. planes are good but i have had heaps of problems with mine and because of that im finding it a hard hobby to get in to, and also the cost. to become a member of the air club so u can use their field is like $200 a year, and most of that is insurance. just in case u hit someone with it or have a crash int he air with another plane.

come round here and have a go on my model flight simulator, it uses my real transmitter so it gets you use to the real thing, instead of practicing on a joystick and not knowing what to do in the real world.

i been usin it lately 2 practice helicopter flight, then went to my mates place and used his real helicopter and did alright cus of the flight sim..
SPiDERr
I was at a friend's house last week and he was mucking around with his car, does wicked drifting and stuff biggrin.gif biggrin.gif tempted to buy one.

Oh hell yes dude even the 4wd ones you'd expect to have lots of traction etc..........well let me tell you 4wd power slides at over 80km/hour is so much fun and that wasn't even at full throttle and was also on a extra rich setting for running in the motor too ( not tuned for performance yet). so much more fun than i expected. You do need a lot of room though as they run out of road pretty quickly biggrin.gif
morpheusr
yeah @ running out of room man. shopping center car park or nothing. every time i think i'll b ok out on the street i smash it or something silly like that. i have learned my lesson.
DTNr
yo JP do you still keep in contact with matt? his choppers were sick..

i don't see him any more because of the whole divorce thing. how is he?
Glennr
I used to be pretty heavily involved in competition level RC.... a few ppl have seen my gear... starting to consider taking it up again.... we shall see....

Paulie, u've seen some of my gear right?
BOOSTINGr
Yep mate i saw it in the dark but looked like serious little machines though. would be wicked to get a few of us out one day for a mess around and a bit of shared experiences etc as i know i'm a newbie. tongue.gif
Glennr
You will have to come round some other time....

Ran 1/8th nitro a little too... but i am waaaaaaaaaay too lazy!!
BOOSTINGr
yeah for sure there's a carpark near you too haha we can get em out for a thrash
Glennr
There is an offroad track in the park near my house! lol
BOOSTINGr
mine is a tarmac car only me thinks haha
