Just a thread for the more 'hardcore' sports tongue.gif

What fight sports have you done? Martial Arts?

Discuss!

Karate with the Go Kan Ryu crew...but that was a few years ago now
Jutsin
Same as Dav with the Go Kan Ryu Karate, and Hap Ki Do for about 4 years.

Getting into Wushu the moment I have money (now that Uni is done and I can properly devote time/effort to it again).
NokturnL
Well i don't really participate in any, but i watch Boxing on occasion... mainly cos my bro gets me into it, but yeah...

I like watching some propper martial arts vids sometimes...
Davin
Wow, I just had a quick look at what Go Kan Ryu is up to. Gees, when I first started with them in the late 80's, there were only about 300 members and Bob Sullivan used to train us at most classes.... since I left (due to injury) it's now a worldwide organisation with tens of thousands of members! I knew they wanted me to leave for a reason laugh.gif
KandiRaver
I like wrestling.. but i'm going to release my inner geek and own up to the fact i LOVE American Wrestling! you know WWF (not WWE - that's crap.. i liked it when it was good ol' WWF)

My favourite wrestler.. Road Dogg
SUPERSHOOTER
Never liked traditional martial arts, generally too square and you have to be set up to execute.

Wrestling/Muay Thai/JuJitsu are my favourites! Work with all three and you can attack from anywhere and do damage anywhere!

I used to do both Zen Do Kai (kickboxing) and Muay Thai, so these would have to be my favourites.

Although I do like to watch the UFC style fighting as it tests your skills against various others..

They are some of the best fight's i've seen different styles put against eachother. I just think its more interesting to see 2 styles combat eachother rather than just the same vs same.

For those into WWF/WWE, here's a video of the before and after events of Owen Hart/Blue Blazer's death. If you want to see live TV gone wrong, here's how:

http://www.vidilife.com/index.cfm?f=media....8F-3&action=new

He died an hour after this event, so it is fine for me to post this link

And here: photo of paramedics trying to revive him

Basically he was meant to come down from the roof 50 feet from the ring on a cable, it wasn't tied to him properly, he fell and hit his face on the turnbuckle. The only thing was that it was live on Pay-per-view, with only a 7 second delay, he died shortly after.

WWE Wrestler Chris Benoit hangs himself, after strangling wife and smothering 7 year old son:

image not archived: 2706_benoit_a_lg.jpg

Wrestling superstar Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son over a three day period, before hanging himself with weightlifting equipment, according to police.

Police investigators announced the grisly findings at a press conference this morning (AEST).

"Mr Benoit had sometime, possibly Friday, murdered his wife by asphyxiation. Sometime shortly after that, the same for his son Daniel and sometime later ... committed suicide by hanging himself in the basement area," officials said in a statement from the Fayetteville Sheriff's Department.

Even more shocking, Benoit's son, Daniel, was apparently found with needle marks in his arm.

According to Atlanta District Attorney Scott Ballard, the boy was being given Human Growth Hormones because the family thought he was undersized.

In a bizarre twist, Ballard said it appeared the wrestler choked his seven-year-old son to death late Saturday or early Sunday morning, more than a day after killing his wife.

The bodies of the 40-year-old wrestler, his wife, Nancy Benoit, 43, and son, Daniel, were found in three separate rooms at their Atlanta home on Monday.

Mrs Benoit was bound at the wrists and feet, with a towel wrapped around her body and blood underneath her head, according to officials.

A Bible was reportedly found near each one of the bodies.

World Wrestling Entertainment staff asked police to check on Benoit after they were alerted to a series of "curious" text messages he had sent to friends, reportedly during Sunday's Vengeance TV wrestling program.

In one of the messages, Benoit said that his wife and son were sick.

In another message to a neighbor, Benoit said that the house door was open and the pets were outside.

"Our assumption is that that was an effort to try and get somebody to come find the bodies after the suicide," Ballard said.

However, police say they believe Benoit died on Saturday. Authorities understand he used a cord from one of his workout machines as a makeshift noose.

Toxicology tests will show whether steroids or prescription drugs, both found inside the Benoit home, could have been a factor in the deaths. Steroid abuse has been linked to angry outbursts known as "roid rage".

Mrs Benoit had filed for divorce and a restraining order against her husband in 2003, telling a judge she was "intimidated by threats of violence".

Yet when Benoit — nicknamed 'The Canadian Crippler' — won the world heavyweight championship in 2004, he hoisted the belt over his head and invited his wife and child into the ring to celebrate.

Asked by the Calgary Sun newspaper that same year to name his worst vice: Benoit replied: "Quality time with my family is a big vice. It's something I'll fight for and crave."

But as the investigation continues, it's Benoit's history of domestic abuse which has been brought into the spotlight.

In the papers, Nancy claimed that Benoit, "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture."

She also said she was "in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child."

Three months later, she withdrew the divorce papers and a judge cancelled the proceedings.

Benoit met his wife on the wrestling circuit during the mid-1990s.

Then, she was the wife of fellow wrestler Kevin Sullivan. As part of the scripted show, Benoit and Nancy acted as if they were having an affair.

But a real life romance developed and Nancy left Sullivan for her new love.

Now, in the aftermath of the killings, some friends of Benoit have been unable to accept he would harm his family.

"He was very happy with his wife and he loved his son Daniel," Ross Hart, a friend of Benoit and member of the Hart wrestling family, told the Edmonton Journal.

"This would be very uncharacteristic of Chris to do anything self-destructive. I find it very hard to believe that he would end his life or his family's."

I'm quite shocked at the whole thing, here's a detailed timeline from WWE.com:

Detailed WWE/Benoit timeline
Written: June 26, 2007Below is a detailed WWE/Chris Benoit timeline from Saturday to Monday:

Saturday, June 23, 2007

Chris Benoit was scheduled to appear at the WWE SmackDown/ ECW live event in Beaumont, Texas

3:30pm
A co-worker received a voice message from Benoit. The message from Benoit stated he missed his flight and over slept and would be late to the WWE Live Event. The co-worker called Benoit back, Benoit confirmed everything he said in his voice message and sounded tired and groggy. Benoit then stated, “I love you”. The co-worker stated that it was “out of context.”

3:42pm
The same co-worker was concerned with Benoit’s tone and demeanor and called Benoit for a second time. Benoit did not answer the call and the co-worker left a message stating “just call me back.”

3:44pm
Benoit called the co-worker back stating he didn’t answer the call because he was on the phone with Delta changing his flight. Benoit stated he had a real stressful day due to Nancy and Daniel being sick with food poisoning. They discussed travel plans for the WWE Tour of Texas with Benoit still sounding groggy at this point according to the co-worker.

4:30pm
A co-worker who consistently travels with Benoit, called Benoit from outside Houston airport and Benoit answered. Benoit told the co-worker that Nancy was throwing up blood and that Daniel was also throwing up. Benoit thought they had food poisoning. Benoit stated he changed his flight and he would be arriving into Houston at 6:30pm. Benoit told the co-worker to drive onto the WWE event.

5:35pm
Benoit called WWE Talent Relations stating that his son was throwing up and that he and Nancy were in the hospital with their son, and that Benoit would be taking a later flight into Houston, landing late, but would make the WWE live event in Beaumont.

6:10pm
A representative of Talent Relations called Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations asked Benoit what time Benoit was getting into Beaumont. Benoit responded he was leaving Atlanta at 9:20pm Eastern time arriving into Houston at 9:24pm Central time. The representative from Talent Relations advised Benoit that it would be too late to make the WWE live event in Beaumont. Benoit apologized citing he had a family emergency. The representative from Talent Relations suggested to Benoit that instead of going to the WWE live event in Beaumont, Benoit should take the flight to Houston, rest up and be ready for the Vengeance Pay-Per-View event.

6:13pm
The representative from Talent Relations called Benoit to reconfirm the travel plans with no answer from Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations left a voice message to take the flight and rest up.

In relation to the Chris Benoit story on wrestlingexposed.com:

- Jimmy Wales of wikipedia.org was interviewed and has no idea who posted Nancy Benoit’s death hours before her body was found. He said they are cooperating with the police.

- He said the person that made the entry also edited other wrestling stories, as determined by the person’s IP number.

QUOTE
Fox News is reporting that Chris Benoit's profile entry on the Wikipedia website was changed to note that he missed the WWE Vengeance pay-per-view, "due to personal issues, stemming from the death of his wife Nancy" 14 hours before the Benoit family was found dead.

The edit was made a minute past midnight Eastern Time. It was an anonymous edit from the IP address 69.120.111.23 using the Internet service provider Optimum Online. The IP was traced to a (so far) anonymous user originating in Stamford, CT, which of course is the headquarters of World Wrestling Entertainment. Then just one hour later after the first edit reversion, another anonymous edit by 125.63.148.173 using unwiredAustralia.com.au, a wireless Internet service provider, was made adding about the aforementioned personal issues: "which according to several pro wrestling websites is attributed to the passing of Benoit's wife, Nancy." That edit was reverted just under 20 minutes later, with the comment: "Saying 'several pro wrestling websites' is still not reliable information." Further investigation shows that the IP address used to make the first edit is located in Connecticut, but the IP address is not linked to any computers or servers used by the WWE. The second edit was made by a computer in Australia from a wireless network.

You can see the Wikipedia edit in question at en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chris_Benoit&diff=140442953&oldid=140425583. If you have a Wikipedia account set to EST, it says "Revision as of 00:01, 25 June 2007".

WikiNews.org also has more on this story.
