just heard that steve erwin has been killed by a sting ray.... of all the things he has played with THAT killed him....

now they will have to change the add for australia zoo... the bit where the bindy says "theres a chance u will see my dad there too"

THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead.

He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said.

It is understood he was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that's when it occured.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

His body is being flown to Cairns.

A Tourism Queensland spokeswoman today said the death was shocking and paid tribute to Irwin's "enormous contribution" to his adopted state.

Louise Yates said it was impossible to quantify how much Mr Irwin had meant to the Queensland tourism industry.

"I don't think we could even estimate how much he brought us through his personality and his profile and his enthusiasm about Queensland," she said.

i tell u im a bit annoyed about that news article... it has like 3 sentences on him and all the rest is on what he is worth, thats a bit in abd taste, and the whole of australia knows b4 his wife!!!!!!

As annoying as I always found him to be; he was essentially an Australian icon and achieved a great deal in terms of conserving Australian wildlife, education and tourism.

It's a pretty big loss when you think about it

I thought he was a champ. It was good how he put things across. He did really good work with the enviroment and education. Sad to hear this as he was a gem.

RIP Steve. Yeah he was a bit annoying but he made me laugh a hell of a lot at his stupid antics. Guess he reminds me of myself in some ways.

i did think he was a dick but he was pretty huge all over the world... i think i got the most mialge out of that movie he made where at the start he picks up poo..."parendie poo" and then he sticks it is his pocket to look at later....

did anyone see that thing he did where there was a bush fire and he found a lizard that was pretty badly burnt and he picked it up and was holding it and was pretty emotional about it...

it is a shame..u need all kinds of ppl in this world and i think he was one that we really needed... he came across as an ass sometimes but he grew on u... i find myslef being pretty sad, i didnt think i would be this sad....

despite him now being gone i'll still piss myself when i remember back to seeing him get bitten by this snake he was holding while out on the nullabor - no hospital for hundreds of miles. he runs to his car, pulls out his book of australian snakes, quickly flicks through the pages, finds the snake then reads that it's not majorly poisonous. he gives the camera the thumbs up and says "she'll be right, i'll live another day"...

ahhh steve, should've stayed to land animals, or atleast those who occasionally dwell on it...

Steve Irwin should have worn sunscreen. It helps block out the harmful rays

Steve will be sorley missed by myself thats for sure. He made money and brought habitat to help protect the enviroment and animals. If thats not a god blessing i dont no what is. Fair enough his antics where far fetched but that was his thing and it helped him with his passion towards the enviroment. I personally thought he was great and he will be sadley missed
