Basically
Last night i finally got around to watching superman returns (yay).
Normally i am not one to pick out plot holes in a movie but this movie was garbage.
I am just wondering if anyone else saw the movie and noticed the same things or other movies with blatent plot holes.

(Spoilers) \/ Watch movie before reading

In the scene where clark (reporter) goes to the girls house for dinner where the husband is there and she suspects that he is superman. she goes out onto the roof briefl y for a moment to think then clark (superman) meets her there aswell and talks to her yadda yadda then leaves.
Her doubts are thrown off when she gets downstairs and sees clark (reporter) sitting at the table again. Since he is the same person he must of left when she did and quickly got changed at super speed and went back to the roof (duh) but then wouldnt the husband kind of notice he was gone at the same time she did. the movie depicted none of that.

Another point

Clark disappears for 5 years at the start and so does superman and they both return at the same time. No one notices this. Nor does anybody take notice of clarks stupid questions about things that had happened to him indicating memory loss but not actually indicating it.

Another Point

Ok lex gets his plan into motion to blow up everything around a piece of land and flood it. The most logical place is from an island in the middle of somewhere
So he puts the crystal into the water to make it go book and encases it in kryptonite so superman cant touch it. Then somehow he kidnaps lois lane (with or without knowing that superman wants her i dont know). Then puts it into the water
And with earthquakes all around superman rushes out the window or whatever to save anybody and then figure out where they were (using co ordinates 40,60 which when applied to a actual map is a very very large area to search) then on the way he has to save everybody dieing then run to find lois and stop the blowy uppy thing that he cant touch. Meanwhile lex is on an island which for some reason is not affected at all by the explosions or title waves or flooding or any of that.
Sure superman cant go to the island because of kryptonite chunks but whats stopping the military from going there and blowing him up. Earlier it mentions that lex has advanced alien technology to stop them from doing that. obviously they forgot to actually give him the technology considering he is stranded on a island with just the stupid women and a helicopter. Hmm

Lex is out of jail, Because superman didnt testify from what i remember it was a double life sentence, attempting genocide in previous movies escaping from a prison and other crimes, hmm

Another one
Lex walks up to the kid with a big thing of kryptonite, the kid is not affected in the slightest from being close to it. yet when superman is even close to the stuff he crys like a baby. Yet the kid if obviously supermans son when he throws a bloody piano at the other guy. Yet again disproven when they are lockedin the freezer after someone put them in there? the kid couldnt even open the door or prevent getting put in there.

Ok superman flew off to find the wreckage of his home planet. Then comes landing back in a green flying coffin case thing. The movie dosnt say if he found anything or whatever but where did he get the case from?

Stupid mistakes in the actual movie is

Lex necktie knot changes throughout the scene when he is talking to lois on the boat
And in the piano room scene he ring keeps changing finger on its own in every scene change.

overdoser
In Anaconda there is a scene where there is a waterfall, and the water is flowing upwards.

In Terminator 3 I think it is, when Arnold is flying a helicopter through a tunnel, he is loading a gun with 2 hands, and you can see another hand from below steering the helicopter

ah if we're going to be picking holes in hollywood scripts we're going to be here for a very long time...blockbuster movies are just getting more and more desperate to hold on to their dwindling audience, and thus the less credible the scripts, and the bigger the holes...screw the blockbusters, go see an arthouse film and broaden your mind, not your disbelief.
Shallanr
Give some examples of the arthouse movies plz

Blockbusters are full of holes but there have been some good ones smile.gif
If your looking for movies to broaden mind and not disbelief some good titles are

Waking life
I heart Huckabees

Gabtronr
Snakes on a Plane.

Say no more.

hmm... those are some titles shallan...but the arthouse genre is incredibly broad so i'll just list some absolute must sees:
Clockwork Orange
Reservoir Dogs
The Wall
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Apocalypse Now
Requiem for a Dream
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Third Man
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
can't think of any others off the top of my head...you have your duties people! lol

The term "art film" has become a catch-all term for films that do not adopt the main Hollywood conventions of the industry. Therefore, a great number of films, which were presented to a mass audience in countries such as Italy and France, may simply be deemed as "art films" by an average American viewer. This further explains the reason why it is not usually considered as an interpretative term outside the U. S..

Thats very vauge and pretty broad ;d But includes a great list of my favourite movies, mainly because under that definition are fox searchlight and 20th c.fox

One flew over the cuckoos nest missed a fair few important seens from the ken kesey novel though. Still need to get around to watching clockwork and res dogs ;d bah

come on this movie was based on a comic book not real life! Part of the story revolves around the fact that nobody realises that superman is clark kent. Did u realise that people can't fly either?
I'm not saying that the movie was world class but some things are different in a comic book world and you have to go into the movie realising that.
Must admit I missed th errors in continuity with the ring etc tho. Thats just poor form.
Shallanr
Agreed but at the sametime other comics into movies (Xmen Saga,Daredevil even Phantom) did not have stupidly gaping plot holes. Nobody realises they are the same person sure. But it would take an idiot in the movie not to realise that with the way the portrayed the changing of roles between superman and reporter.
