I'm not completely certain what the point of this thread will be, so hopefully after typing a little I'll have some direction - just bare with me.

At 3AM on Thursday around the suburban Hindmarsh area one of my best friends died in a car accident .. it has since made me think of several things constantly between then and now ..

Firstly; that road safety is one of those many things we have drilled into us, but the importance is rarely understood until we experience or see the aftermath of a journey gone wrong. The least that anyone can take from this incident, or the numerous others like it - is that we are not invincible, the road (essentially) is not a safe place, and with any amount of travel we do; our very life may depend on the coherent and correct use of whatever vehicle we're operating.

Secondly; let people know how much you appreciate them on a day to day basis. Don't just assume a loved one knows they're loved, or a friend knows they play an important part in your life. Vocalise it. At the very least you will make their day that much brighter, and in the worst case scenario you won't be left wishing you'd explained properly how you felt.

Thirdly; throw petty differences and arguments right out the window. I've seen and had many friendships deteriorate because of the smallest, most ridiculous problems. When you have the chance to apologise or to discuss things maturely .. I know it's normally the last thing on your mind, but try to remember when you no longer have a chance to do either of those .. it's the only thing you can think of.

The latter hits home the most for me in this case.. before I got into anthems and raves, my core friendship group consisted of three people - the guy who died in the accident being one of them. We were best friends for sure, and had all those same inside jokes and hilarity plus experiences than any group has, in fact this very person was the one who gave me the nickname "Jutsin" about two years ago..

..unfortunately when I got into raves the contacts with my old friends deteriorated somewhat, which subsequently made petty differences seem so much more important. In the last few months I spoke to this person very rarely because of said differences. Don't get me wrong; we weren't enemies or some such .. I just never showed the nouse to put the smaller things behind me, or to even voice that he (among others) had played a large role in my life, and his friendship was and always will be much appreciated.

It is mainly for this reason that I'm now left feeling sick and disoriented - so do me a favor for today at the very least:

1. Let someone close to you know how much they're really appreciated.
2. Let bygones be bygones and resolve any issues that don't need to exist.
3. Drive safe, for fucks sake.

Sorry to hear about your friend

damn shame sad.gif

but unfortunantly no matter how safe you drive, its the other fuckwits on the road you gotta worry about aswell. never know what they will do. stay alert, don't drink/drug drive.

even when i drive a 11tonne armoured vehicle on public roads, been soo many time where people somehow think they will win against it and have tempted fate, cut you off, pull stupid moves...i've hit a solid concrete block at 40km/h and just kept on going.... wat chance does a car have?
Oldskoolier
But if you drive safe, you arent one of someone elses 'other fuckwits!'

You are so right Jutsin in everything you say. I have a high level of respect for you and your integrity. What you have said above can never be stressed enough, but for some reason is always forgotten.

My thought: Send a random anthems member a PM telling them how wonderful they are. The person you PM must not be one of your friends, or someone you know...
michr
that's very sad justin... i hope you are ok?

one of my life motto's is to take each moment as it comes and appreciate every single one and every single person for what it is/they are. Life is short and can be terribly tragic... never take it for granted. Never lose sight of what is important, most of all though never let things from the past ruin your future. What's done is done, learn from mistakes but don't perpetuate them by letting them haunt you. No life will ever be perfect, regrets are what you make them, so make them into something constructive for the future and let them go.

I'm a big one for telling people I love them all the time, and just doing little things to show i care... it's so important because you never know when your time will come.

If you need to chat or desperately need cuddles hun, please let me know.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss Jutsin..

I sucks that is takes something like this to make us realise things and do things that should be an every day part of life.

Take care and big hugz to get you thru this tough time!

*hugs* Justin- ive lost quite a few good friends in car accidents (the damn adelaide/victor harbour rd) one of them i was fighting with at the time- i dont know what the story is with you and your friend but i know that writing her a letter helped me- just telling them how you feel & how much you miss them. I know he wont get to read it but it helps to get it all out & you know he wouldnt want you to think of the bad things or the fact you driftd apart- just all the fun you did have while he was here.
I always let people know how i feel- im one for just ringing family or friends just to let them know im thinking of them or that i love them.
I also know that sometimes i do let petty things get in the way & its something im trying hard not to let happen again.
I crashed my car a few years ago during a very hard time in my life- i was dealing with a lot of issues, but i clearly remember waking up to a room full of my family and all of them had been crying- to see that broke my heart & very quickly made me realise that i had more to live for & i had to start looking after myself.
I stopped putting alot of emphasis on the way i looked & stopped dieting (or starving myself) & took the time to sit back & look at my family & realise that even though they frustrated me at times they were my family & i love every single one for them for their own special reasons.
I dont drink drive- i remember one week staying at venus for 3 hours because id had 2 drinks laugh.gif I am the worst passenger but as im constantly saying to scott- its not that i doubt his driving its just that he has to be very aware that not everyone on the road is careful & it only takes a simple mistake to take the life of someone & the people left behind live with that forever (& id be lost without him)
So everyone- i love you all & please drive safely because you could mean the world to someone (or lots of people) and without you theyd be lost sad.gif

I was driving to work along South Road Thursday morning and was mighty annoyed at the incredible traffic - it took me an hour to get to work instead of 20 mins. When I got to work, I was informed by the "sensible people" (i.e. those at work who listen to commercial radio for traffic reports in the morning) that there was a fatality amongst the various major crashes along South Road on Thursday morning (what was going on to cause so many accidents yesterday???)

I sat back & went "Wow - I'm worried because I have to explain to the boss why I'm so late for work, but somewhere in Adelaide, someone's having to explain to someone's family that they've died in a car accident". I'm so sorry to hear that person was someone close to a dear member of the anthems family.

I second the call for everyone to drive safe - please remember you're not invincible and bad things DO happen to good people.

Jutsin - I feel sad for you that you didn't get to tell your friend how you felt, but I'm sure he appreciated your friendship just as much as you did. Thank you for having the courage to make your post and remind us all that life's just too short - it's sometimes difficult to remember that when you're caught up in life's bulls*@%

I think i may have read about this incident in the advertiser today.

A silver WRX. but the reporter seemed to be more interested in the fact the driver was apparently going 20ks over the speed limet rather than the loss of life. typical press

It also stated that his mother and sister (i think) found the accident after they went out looking for him because he wasnt home when he was suposed to be.
It must have been terrable for them. Its bad enough to lose a loved one, let alone finding the accident yourself.

My heart goes out to you Justin, and his friends and family!
And remember to celebrate the life your friend lived, rather than morn the life you have lost.
asianfunkphenomenar
My heart goes out to you and his family mate.

I read about this in the paper today. As hard as it maybe, try and remember the good times ya had with ya mate. We're here for ya if you need us smile.gif

I agree with ya there Justin. Let bygones be bygones.

Hey Justin,

i feel your pain i lost a close friend a few years back, those who know me should remember who it is. The thing that amazed me was how it re-united our group of friends that had split up due to petty differences.

Anyways, sorry for your loss sad.gif

I'm finding this out as well right now .. within two days the majority of our old group has re-formed somewhat and at least started talking again .. it's just a little sad it took something this tragic to make it happen.

.. also, thankyou to everyone who has offered their advice, sympathy and help. It is much appreciated and reinforces the reason why I love anthems, and all the individual anthemites so much.

I can't really think of anything else to say besides that .. I'll come back to the thread a little later when my brain is working again.

PS: I'm not sure if the person even posts on, or reads anthems .. but big ups to whoever gave the shout-out to Nic on Rollerz last night. I think you managed to put into words what everyone else was thinking, much respect.

Respect Jutsin, you know how much of my mate you are so always be welcome to come chat with me dude.
Taliesinr
Condolences to the Family and friends of Nic, just learnt that Nic was also an old-time mate of one of my other mates back from when they went to school, and he only just found out about it.

Sounds like he was well known, and loved for the mate he was, also the way your post come out Jutsin really did get me thinking, and all of those points are accurate.

So to jutsin and my mate david, all I can do is offer my sympathy and hope it brings all the friends of Nic together.
Annon201r
sad.gif I'll miss you nic.

Hope your doing ok mate, even Im pretty shaken by this and me and him weren't close near the end but we were when I first knew him.

Such a loss of young life is so sad. It makes you see that even as a young person you are not invincible and you should live each day to the fullest, life is such a blessing.

NokturnLr
I can't say a lot that hasn't been said before on this thread... so i'll just bring my condolences...

Ur only walking distance for me, if u want to say hi, i'm here for u man... it can be tuf... hope u get through it ok...
absent1r
wish i came on here more often to hear about things like this... means i would know when to keep my mouth shut about stupid shit i have been doing.

sorry for your loss mate. always here for ya
Candy_Catr
hey justin, i know everyone will catch you today and say sorry and the like. Unfortunately, (don't take this the wrong way) death is not something you can be sorry for. If there is anyway i can help you with coping with your loss, i'm there smile.gif

Although you hurt heaps now, what you have already gained is a new respect for life, and a glimpse of why petty shit doesn't really matter all that much. This is priceless Justin, and its unfortunate that things sometimes has to happen this way to realise it.

After my accident (being hit by a car in Jan 2004) was a reality check for me too. I was so not understanding of how i wasn't dead (same with the paramedics,)and why i was still here. But it taught me that i was still here for a reason, and to appreciate life, AND, to let go of bullshit an pettyness in my life. I'd never take back this experience (even though i would like to not have all the health problems ), cause i learnt so goddamn much. And that is priceless..

I've found that since then quite often i tell people i love them randomly, and there are times i should tell people that i value them more often than i do.

reading what you have wrote here is just another small reminder for why i live my life a certain way. I'm sure this may have made at least a few people online here think about life and what they treasure.

So don't look at his life and feel guilt justin, it is so easy to feel that way. Just think, if you were to die, you wouldn't give two sh*ts about the petty, only the good times. So although i'm not going to say sorry, i'm going to say thank you for helping to remind people of how precious life is, and also thank you for the friendship we have. Although i don't get to see you often of tell you than much., you most definately deserve it smile.gif
