After all the reading Lucky Paul is doing on his travels, i thought id start this thread.
I too have recently read The Davinci Code, by Dan Brown and thought it was great biggrin.gif

If you like that kind of book I would recommend the Celestine Prophecy (if you've not read it already) and the sequals to it... found those more of an enjoyable read than the Divinci Code but are a bit old now, the theme is a bit easier to take than the high brow religious theme of the Divinci Code but some people think they are quite airy fairy books. I liked them for what they are, a different perspective on our relationship with higher beings (god if you like) and those around us.

I read about a book a week but stuffed if I can remember the titles and authors of most of them. I recently read the breathtaker (i think, or was it windtaker?not sure who it's by).. a thriller about tornado's.. not bad. Ends with an interesting twist.

Reading the burning man by Phillip Margolin now, it's ok so far!

we should book swap!!! I have so many books it's not funny, usually give them to my mum or throw them out after a while. I'm so not picky what I read as long as it holds my attention I don't care if it costs me $5 or $50!

Queen of the Damned - and now I'm onto Tale of the Body Thief (which is the 4th book in the Vampire Chronicles).

Chrinicles of Narnia is my next book to read just waiting for me tongue.gif Then I would like to Read Memoirs of a geisha and would someday LOVE to read the Vampire chronicles as they interest me so much tongue.gif If anyone does any research into the 'real' vampire his name was Vlad Tepes... Was a prince and killed 40,000-100,000 of his own people! He didn't actually eat people... But anyway...

Vampire Chronicles = damn good.

I've got the first five books, once I finish the fifth I'll go buy the next five.

.. also, Vampires don't eat people, and I don't think there was ever misconceived notions about Vlad eating people. He was in a few paintings using bread to soak up the blood of his victims (which were more often than not impaled). I don't think he killed indescriminately either, mainly merchants and boyars because they were dodgey tongue.gif

"Red Velvet - diary of a working girl" by Lisa Lou.

FASCINATING read. Although it does border on Erotica for quite a bit of the book, most of it is pretty weird and interesting. Apparently it's a true story and stuff.

I'm reading Adventures of a Continental Drifter by Elliot Hester. A bit bout him and the travels detailed in his book:

In Oct 2002, Elliot Hester sold his car, abandoned his apartment, and took off alone on a trip around the world, during which he drifted to more than fifty destinations. Elliots real tales about his travels range from the bizarre to the hilarious to the flatout shocking. Travel with him as he:

- chases off transvestites in the South Pacific
- gets drunk on Estonian moonshine on the makers 88th birthday party
- impersonates Samuel L. Jackson at the 38th International Film Festival in the Czech Republic
- and much much more

Excerpt from chapter "DELHI BELLY"...

"I sat on a bench in the courtyard of the Taj Mahal, admiring the world's loveliest building, basking in its luminescent glow, when suddenly there was a rumbling from inside. Not in the interior chamber where Mumtaz Mahal's body lay, but in the deep dark recesses of my warped digestive system. The runs... laugh.gif

Finished two books on holiday Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl and Diary of a Married Call Girl by Tracy Quan pretty interesting and amusing.. they've been picked up by Darren Star (of Sex & The City fame) for production. So can't wait to see wat they do with it.

Just purchased The Wish List by Melanie LaBroody, her last book was good, tho a bit slow on the uptake.. but i'm running out of books to read and since this is her second book thought i'd give it a go.. it's in the genera i like...

At the moment I'm reading "Third Coast" by Roni Sarig. It's about hiphop, it's root and it's evolution. We've all heard of East Coast/West Coast hiphop. But the third - South Coast - has been less documented until now. And South Coast is more popularised than ever.

Also a Marvel comic book called "The House of M". Anyone who likes crossover comics featuring the likes of the XMen, the Avengers and such might like this.
KandiRaverr

Nope...never found it and the one's that were for sale ran into the hundreds - something I'm not prepared to shell out for.

Talking about religious books and manuscripts. They recently discovered a manuscript/book that reportedly belonged to Jesus' betrayer. What was his name??? I'd be keen to read that if someone could translate it from Armenian to English.
KandiRaverr
wasn't that Judas? i think i heard something about that too.. but wasn't that years and years ago.. like back in the 90's?
Sangr
I dunno
Gabtronr
Judas Iscariot. I have an Armenian friend who could translate it for you Sang. Altho, you'd have to beat him at Street Fighter first tongue.gif

I got Rhett Butlers People for xmas and i finished it in about 3 weeks.. it's a nice thick book and really had me enthralled! (I'm a massive fan of Gone With the Wind.. if you love that movie you'll love this book).

I'm currently reading The Goddess Guide. Just a book full of hits, tips and information about just about everything a girl could need.. i love it!

I've also got The Cigarette Girl (can't remember the author) which I'll be getting into in a week or so.

Last book I read was the "KISS Guide to Pregnancy" funnily enough hehe.

Was a good read, very informative. Only thing that I didn't like, or notice when I picked it up was that it was based in the UK. So obviously procedures that they were talking about in this book that occur in the UK are different to here in Australia.

Still, filled me in on alot of stuff and I learnt SO much!

I'm reading two books at the moment:

Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins - According to his book, Perkins' function was to convince the political and financial leadership of underdeveloped countries to accept enormous development loans from institutions like the World Bank and USAID. Saddled with huge debts they could not hope to pay, these countries were forced to acquiesce to political pressure from the United States on a variety of issues. Perkins argues in his book that developing nations were effectively neutralized politically, had their wealth gaps driven wider and economies crippled in the long run. In this capacity Perkins recounts his meetings with some prominent individuals, including Graham Greene and Omar Torrijos. Perkins describes the role of an EHM as follows:

"Economic hit men (EHMs) are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and other foreign "aid" organizations into the coffers of huge corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet's natural resources. Their tools included fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as empire, but one that has taken on new and terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization."

Mao's Last Dancer by Li Cunxin - This is the autobiography of Li Cunxin, who spent the first part of his childhood in rural China, near to Qingdao. At 11, although having never danced before, he was selected to enter the Beijing Dance Academy, paid for entirely by Madame Mao, Chairman Mao's wife. He then spent the next 7 years learning ballet from China's greatest artists. At 18, he was selected to spend a summer with the Houston ballet and the company was so impressed with his work ethic and talent that upon his return to China, he was given the opportunity to go back to Houston; this time for a whole year. After this year was up he defected to the west, and developed his art outside China.

It is an incredible story of extreme poverty, and how with the combination of luck, hard work, talent, and some incredibly magnanimous, influential people, Cunxin was able to escape the poverty that seemed inevitable. What also struck me about the book was the impression it gave of Cunxin's parents, and how they managed to raise 6 children so competently with their sparse material resources and lack of food. That is probably the greatest lesson for us in the west, with our materialistic excesses and demanding children.

I've just started reading Boy George's autobiography "Take it like a man"

I've already read it before. Found it last night when I was going through some boxes in the spare room hehe.
