A Small Town With 100 People!

If the population of the Earth was reduced to that of a small town with 100 people, it would look something like this:

57 Asians
21 Europeans
14 Americans (northern and southern)
8 Africans

52 women
48 men

70 colored-skins
30 Caucasians

89 heterosexuals
11 homosexuals

6 people would own 59% of the whole world wealth
80 would have bad living conditions
70 would be uneducated
50 underfed
1 would die
2 would be born
1 would have a computer
1 (only one) will have higher education

When you look at the world from this point of view, you can see there is a real need for solidarity, understanding, patience and education.

Also think about the following This morning, if you woke up healthy, then you are happier than the 1 million people that will not survive next week.

If you never suffered a war, the loneliness of the jail cell, the agony of torture, or hunger, you are happier than 500 million people in the world.

If you can enter into a church (mosque) without fear of jail or death, you are happier then 3 billion people in the world.

If there is food in your fridge, you have shoes and clothes, you have bed and a roof, you are richer then 75% of the people in the world.

If you have bank account, money in your wallet and some coins in the money-box, you belong to the 8% of the people on the world, who are well-to-do.

kind of put things into perspective.... i just want to know tho, if there were only a hundred people in the world how many of them would have chocolate and can I be on that list. Oh and how many of them would be ravers???

on a serious note, it's so easy to get wound up in our own little world and forget about how damn lucky we are. I put together a dinner last night for 70 people, with 18 parilamentary delegates from Sri-Lanka, they think australia and particularly south australia is not only one of the most beautiful places on earth but also one of the most fortunate. Their grattitude for our efforts in entertaining them was over the top but when you think of the hardships they've been through with the Tsunami and the time since in trying to feed their people let alone cloth and dress them.... we really are so fortunate and should never forget it.

I blame the system!

As much a a complain about things- like this damn cold- i know if its gets worse i have access to doctors and medications to make it better- so many people wouldnt have that
Its strange though- i sponser a little girl in kenya- and to see the difference to her over the last couple of years for $10 a week is AMAZING!!! clothes, food, education- even her family have been given supplies for growing their own veg & grains. Its be impossible to live here on $10 a week but for them its so much money gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to be helping though

Well, if we keep going the way we are, chances are the world will flood, burn, break in half etc... so maybe being reduced to 100 people may yet happen...

The 0.5 is because one is only gay on the weekend! ROFL...

makes me feel bad because i am always saying "i have nothing to wear" - when i really have like a whole room of clothes! and most of the people in the situation of being under priveliged are poor, uneducated, hungery and in war over things like religion... i couldn't even imagine dealing with ONE of those issues! we are all very lucky people!

Putting that into perspective is also required tho, because that takes into account ppl in the slums of india (population1.2 BILLION), and China, (population 1.1 BILLION) there is 1/3 of the worlds population in underdeveloped countries.

I'm not saying they're not worth anything, i'm saying that the government that runs those countries are the ones to blame... of the 250M ppl living in the united states, there is next to no poverty, apart from drug related or self inflicted.

Take country perspectives into account as well... with the amount of money that someone gets paid in India, you wouldn't survive a day or a week here, alone, yet they manage to look after their families and themselves for 10 times as long as we could with the same amount of money. Things cost more for the people who have more money. it's as simple as that... so perspective wise....

I believe the damage would have been done long before the recent governments mismanagements... Like the British rule, India wasn't always poor... South America wasn't always poor either, they were ruled by the spanish who were only too happy to take all the riches... The french did the same to their colonies... I think we are experiencing or witnessing the fruit of past sins

The U.S. would have very little poverty as they were colonised by puritans english who exterminated the Indians, like the english almost destroyed the entire aboriginal race in australia... poverty is usually experienced by the outcasts of society, if you notice the rate of poverty in the US and Australia you'd find that the alot of it belongs to the natives of each respective country... The difference with india is that there are alot of natives!

India is just about soley native, and run by natives.

I agree that it is past sins that have the effect, but i know that a lot of people who live like that and are hard workin in countries like that, might not own much or get much, but they eat better healthier food, and leed a much happier life than the people with more money! Love is needed by them to stay alive, which is what risher countries lack.

This puts it all very much in perspective doesn't it....and proves that we have NOTHING to complain about....I thank the powers that be on a daily basis that I was born in Australia, with enough food to eat, shelter and a few luxuries, and most importantly no war on my doorstep....very grateful indeed....pity everyone isn't that lucky

I did a very researched project on Poverty for my Media subject last year, and you would find that in some of the poorer african countries, as much as 20% of their money generated is being payed to the UK for debts that were more or less imposed upon them during colonisation or during their independence. - this is MORE than what they can spend on helping the sick, or trying to help give relief to people who suffer AIDS and other types of problems.

It's a bit hard to cure the world of diseases, when that money is just pouring into the vaults of the British Government...

I'd believe it....I find it repugnant that most of the worlds wealth is held by relatively few people....and injustices like this are just the tip of the iceberg hey?

Make it your mission to live your life differently, and eventually it just might happen...probably not in our lifetime though, unfortunately
