THIS thread is advice /reviews on discoveries you have had at the fringe
it is for both free and paying shows
if there is a show that you think cant be missed or you stumble across a fantastic free art display-- share the love

it is easy to miss things , especially some of the displays that may be up an alley somewhere

LETS GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS FRINGE

ps keep the chit chat to a minimum biggrin.gif

gotta suggest talvin singh for those who like something different : he is only doing one show during festival, and it's not a cheap one, but his music is a blend of electronica and indian drumming ...

i would go but can't blow the cash - so will be watching for all the free gigs wink.gif - but if you know his style and like it then this should be on your list ...

ps: if you go - let me know what it was like smile.gif

we decided to splurge a bit this year on festival acts, so we're seeing Flight [opera], Devolution [dance with the robot things], Nemesis [also robot dance stuff from UK].. maybe also the breakdance thing from france..

there's a play i'd like to see in the fringe: Lost Babylon, which sounds interesting

i've heard good things about circuit breaker [with the guy from the byrd], lots of drumming percussive stuff..

remember, if you're under 27 there are shows where you can buy $20 tickets, so get in there before they sell out!

http://www.adelaidefestival.com.au/
http://www.adelaidefringe.com.au/ticketing/Home.aspx

there;s also some nice stuff on at The Persian Garden:
http://www.adelaidefestival.com.au/program/PGProgram.aspx

The Persian garden is the Festival's late night venue, besides adelaide boys japey, kim dezen, rory, and troy j bean, there's a mix of interstate and international DJs/music, including Hexstatic [UK ninja tunes], simon caldwell [syd], kano [melb], even vince jones [jazz styles].. hexstatic is a lot of fun, cut up breaks with matching visuals..

I'm going to this on Sunday - yay!! i figure $60 for 3 hours & 16 comedians is a pretty damn good deal, and yep - contributing to a damn good cause. I feel all warm & fuzzy now..... smile.gif

Went & saw La Clique at the Spiegeltent on Wednesday night - completely by accident! Was sitting out the front having a drink with some pals when we got invited in to see the show for free cos they didn't want empty seats!! So I'm now telling everyone to go & see it cos it's AMAZING!!!!! It's described as a burlesque circus on acid - there's everything you could want in a Fringe show - a naked magician, a contortionist, an operetta singer, a sword-swallower & some truly unbelieveable acrobats (and some f*ing hot bodies, particularly for the ladies biggrin.gif ) I'd definitely pay to see it again!!

Evn Watching the free acts/buskers on the Corner is great...
Some of them are ok, others bloody hilarious!!!

Background:

acquiescence:Not Dreaming, Creating premiered as part of the 2002 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

It is one of Adelaide’s largest events and definitely one of the largest events of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

It’s artistic directives are to provide a space for Adelaide Artists to perform as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival, to showcase as broad a range of art forms as exists in Adelaide and to provide an awesome space for artists to perform in and for audiences to experience art in.

It provides an opportunity for talented artists to play in a massive event and for audiences and artists to experience genres and artforms that they would not normally go and see.
For an artist it represents an excellent opportunity for artistic development and career development as well as the experience of being a part of something massive.

It is a unique asset for the Adelaide Arts Community and for South Australia as a whole.

About Us

acquiescence:Not Dreaming Creating Inc. is a not for profit association. It is run by a group of young artists who are passionate about original art and enriching the South Australian Arts scene.

How does it work?

acquiescence 2006 will be held on Saturday March 4 as part of Adelaide Fringe 2006. It is an all ages event that runs for 12 hours and consists of 2 band stages, a performance arts stage, an electronica stage and a gallery. We include 20 bands, 20 electronica acts, 20 performance arts acts and as many visual artists as we can fit in the gallery.

i went and saw 'Lehmo: Christmas in Baghdad' last night.

was excellent, he tells of his recent trip to Baghdad over xmas to go and entertain the troops, and its an big eye opener for those who don't know much about wat our troops get upto on operation smile.gif

you don't hear this in the press, but our troops found a jet boat and skis at one of saddams lakes... they decided to go skiing, and wat they didn't know, was that the yanks had laid some communication wires across the lake and they were only a foot below the serface. so low and behold, the aussie troops disrupted the co-olition communication for a week laugh.gif go aussies!

this show is running every tues->sat, 7:15pm until March 18 at the Rhino Room, 13 Frome St.

i recommend goin, its a good laugh, hear a few good stories and find out what exactly goes on with the aussie troops smile.gif

Hey guys, couldn't find a random crap spot in the forum so I figure this is the closest to it.

Last night I went and saw "Lawrence Leung & Andrew McClelland's Somewhat Secret Secret Society Show" at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in the Garden of Unearthly Delights and had an absolute BLAST!

Andrew is the mastermind behind "The Somewhat Accurate History of Piratology 1770 - 2017" which I saw in 2004 at the Fringe. Lawrence features on 'In Siberia Tonight' (SBS - TV).

Their show costs $22 for an adult and less for concession. If you have a slight interest in Secret Societies or laughing, go on and check them out.

If you have no-one to go with, I will go again to watch this show with you, PM me for more information.

Last but certainly not least, it only take a minute or so, can you all please click on this link and join our secret society, please please please.

Wacko's of Miniature Size...

Oh, and the anthems relevance is that last year these boys did a radio show in Melbourne 6-8am on a Sunday morning that they say was 'dedicated to insomniacs, bakers, service station workers, ravers and devoted church-goers.'
