i have seen a vid similar 2 that, the difference between an AMD running quake 3 then take the fan away, and same test with an intel chip.. intel slowed down and paused....... AMD blew itself and the MOBO up almost instantly..... and i believe possibly the intel resumed play once the fan was replaced...
the Toms hardware ones were good.
they had many, if the CPU fan was turned off the AMD's still smoked but the Intels just slowed down.
then with the heatsink removed the T-Bred and Palimino's both blew up (Palimino were NEW then), Intel P3 1gig turned off? and the P4 2.4 slowed down.
was a great video, good for a laugh, both AMD's mainboards were unuseable afterwards too..
Ive personally had AMD chips blow up on me, one even half dutched my room with smoke! but a Duron 850x100@1400x133 wont last long if the fan stops working and you arent in the room at the time. the case fans did a great job of clearing the smoke out of the case and into my room :S

yeah thats the vid i was.. lol.... i have had an AMD give up 2.. lol.. and my P4 2.6 was running @ 72 degrees the other day burning a DVD in like 40 degree heat but it kepf on goin.. lol
although alarms were going of telling me 2 shut down.. i didnt want to kill my burn..
