Portable Music: Ipod Vs ?

It's now come to the time when i am able to by myself a decent portable music player. I bought one of the 1st mini disc's back when they were released & it has served me well as it's easily connectable to my stereo so recording my mixes & music from DVD's etc has been quite easy... but as my music collection is still growing very very rapidly & MP3 is 'taking over the world' i wanna get a new toy

Everyone is raving iPod to me...but i just don't know if i want one!?

i bought a iPod mini for my gf & she loves it...my sis can't stop raving bout her 40GB iPod + the rest of the ear bashings i get from the iPod lovers out there... but i have a problem, i'm a Sony FREAK! i eat, breathe & shit sony

TV, DVD, VCR, Stereo's, TV Surround System, Car stereo, Laptop - yeah i'm a Sony nutter

So i really would like a Sony HDD Walkman. I've been reading up on the new & old versions & they both sound pretty sweet...albeit 20GB...using the ATRAC3+ technology i can get 13000 songs in 20GB!?I've used them both (in store) also & they are very funky & attractive machines...yes i love my electronics

My next dilemma is that i can get a funky little device that will let me connect a Sony HDD Walkman to my car stereo & i can control ALL functionalities of the walkman using the remote & features of my car stereo! To make things even more interesting for me (read my decision harder

) i also have in my car a tray that sits underneath my stereo that is connected to my stereo that has a plug that will let me play any device that has an earphone plug! CD, MD, iPod, iPodshuffle etc etc... BUT i can't control the device itself, it just plays the tunes & all the pausing, shuffling etc must be done via the device...
I just dont know what to do!?

my heart says Sony...but then also maybe iPod or something similar

I know ultimately the decision is mine to make, but i was wondering if you anthemites out there could please lend me some assistance, feedback, personal experiences good or bad on either or any similar device...to please assist me in my decision making process...cos the whole thing is driving me mental & taking away from the joy of buying myself a new toy

For the record, i have used the new & old (which can still be bought new & has a replaceable battery?!) Sony HDD walkman & the iPod & they each have their own attractiveness as they are each in their own rights, cool little gadgets...

PLS HELP ME!?!

hey JP its JP. u scare me more and more every day.. lol. i also love sony.

i bought a portable player. just a cheap one. its an I-river. now while mine is a small cheapish one. (just under $200 but still a really nice player) you can get a 40 gig version with colour screen that can have a firmware hack that makes it play gameboy games.. lol. a friend of mine has that and he loves it. i did play with an I-pod and yeah it seems pretty good, but it does everything of the MP3 tag and i HATE that after having crap experiences with my windows media center PC. if ur a sony man. go sony. I 2 have a sony mini disk player and yeah they work pretty good. but i can tb stuffed sitting their recording. i just wanna drag and drop line the NET MD players..

If Sony is what you love, then stick with it. I have a Sony head unit in my car and as old as it is..it just keeps going....friends have ipods and from what i have heard they have had nothing but problems with them. Stick with what you know and love and all will be ok :-)

Cheers for the input bud! That iRiver doesnt sound too bad..but like u said (& u can appreciate) once a Sony man, always a sony man

i too cant be arsed recording things on2 my MD... I have thought bout n played with the NET MD & High MD with 1GB disc capacity, but then the issue of so many discs to 1) record & 2) cart around seems to put it in the 'too hard' basket.
Im hoping to hopes some1 out there in anthemland has one or knows sum1 one who does own (Sony HDD Walkman) & can give good or bad comments.. so i know what i'm in for...not that it will make or break my decision, but will be good to hear all pro's & con's...

Prob shld not have put Ipod in the topic title maybe to get more feedback!?

the only oregon scientific piece of hardware i had was a 1.3MP digital camera with no screen. just a flash.. and it was the worst digital camera i have ever seen.. lol... it was free on a mobile phone plan and i can see why.. BUT, thats not to say all oregon scientific products are crapola, but the one i had definately was.. lol

lol, but i think the HD in the head idea would be cool...

aaanyways, back on topic i myself have an iPod and I love it to death! the software looks great (especially when you add album images to your id3 tags

) and it operates quite nicely. However, the iPod sucks immensely for one reason....

IT SCRATCHES LIKE A *insert swear words*!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111~~~~~~

Took it to the beach yesterday for some tunes by the sea...big mistake, sand scratches it. damn it, you LOOK AT THE THING AND IT SCRATCHES! got my iPod for Christmas, it's already got many many "character-building" scratches all over it. not cool.

other than that and apple's retardedness, iPods are nice machines...really nice

u can get some pretty neat covers for ur iPod from ebay & the like...my sis has got a clear silcone one + some diff colour glow in the dark ones!? no shite! they're v v cool!

yeah, i got a black silicon franga for my ipod and proteive sleeve thingy over screen, glad i' got it, have save it from heaps of nasty assasination attempts on it.

as you can see, my ipod goes to work with me

and roughs the nice outdoors.

When I added ID3 tag info to the anthems mp3 mixes, Paul wasn't convinced at the time that anyone would see it

Dear anthems,

My mum has been dropping teh not so subtle hint that she wants something small and light weight to take to the gym , to drown out the sound of all the testosterone flying around.. Should i buy here a lil i-pod or is there something cheaper. It has to be user freindly cos well mums blonde and has trouble with a mirror
