Noosa is where all the old people with money hang out. The National park is great, with all the bush turkeys and goannas and scenery and stuff. The actual bit of Noosa everyone goes to see - Hastings St - has not much to offer a young person with a penchant for electronic music. It is mainly nice restaurants, gelati stores, and a couple of small cocktail bars.
No pubs , No clubs. On the hill heading back towards the residential area is a large hotel complex which it pretty much full of families during the day and a meat market playing dodgy pop music at night.
If you want actual clubs or decent bars , you need to head down south for half an hour into Maloolaba.
Byron Bay is much better. Coopers is the drink of choice, three fantastic pubs to choose from, bars and clubs, a better beaches, and better hinterland, and more backpacker babes.
Over 40 or with kids : go to Noosa
Under 40 or act like it : go to Byron Bay
edit : Where is it? About 2 hours north of Brisbane, at the top of the Sunshine coast.
It's a nice drive, with the Glasshouse mountains as a backdrop, and the constant wreckage of car accidents to keep you amused.
