I never used to believe there was much to dreams just an over imaginative mind doing it's thing..

till not that long ago I had a dream the felt real. I knew exactly where I was and I could see and talk to the people who were around me.. I was looking for someone.. anyany I dont want to go into detail about it

but

it happened not exactly the same but it showed me a few things I cant explain it more than that

My way of thinking has changed towards dreams as I have had a couple since and the same thing has happened..

I am just wondering if this kinda thing has happened to others.. and what you think about dreams..

??????????????????
Fulcrumr
thats really cool, i can't say i've ever had that happen to me, but my mum has dreamt about a person and a few days later they died, it only happened once or twice but was really freaky. She didn't dream their death, but just about them in one way or another...
smp971r
dreams can tell you a lot...not necessarly the content of the dream but the emotions it made you feel at the time....the messages they hold may not be clear at first though...

its a great idea to have a notepad next to your bed, and as soon as you wake up write down any details you recall from the dream, while its still fresh in ya mind, and refer back to it...sometimes the message (if there is one) becomes clearer later...

my dreams are always pretty vivid and detailed...and whoever says you dream in black and white only is trippin!!!!
foonjir
i rarely remember my dreams.
Life_aurar
I am like foonji I rearly remeber them...

but when to come as clear as these two have it kinda scares me

I had a few when I was kids... whole days would play out in my dreams... and them the next it would be just like that
smp971r
man, I dream 'movie epics' every night...I love where I go in my dreams (for the most part)

Fulcrumr
i dream probably 1-3 times a week, wish i dreamt every night
DeLr
i had one very vivid one half way thru this year whne i was unwell. huge fevers and night sweats was bruning up hard core. a freind of mine supported me thru the night..... but she wasnt even here in my house. but i coudl see her looking after me and she helped me thru the night of the worse fever of my life. its strange.. but shhe dreamt somthing similer the same night...

Jutsinr
I dream every night, and normally remember just a few main aspects of the dream .. but not the whole spectrum.

The way I see dreams is just the musing of the subconscious mind. If you look at them in the right way, you can likely learn a lot about how you really think/feel, as opposed to what you consciously tell yourself.
joker4r
i have had a lot, that do come true, but i do get alot of "day ja view" or how ever u spell it
and they usally happen bout 2 week later. my mum said she used to allways get it untill i started to get them bout 15yr and she hasnt had one since, work that one out???

I've had something similar to this.. a few years ago a guy I was seeing was killed.. the nite be4 it happened i dreamt that I couldnt find him.. I looked everywhere.. n asked everyone.. no one knew where he was n hadnt seen him.. n I was really stressed about it.. which is weird.. cuz if i cant find someone i dont stress i just wait for them to find me.. but yer.. kinda sad sad.gif miss him heaps.
Fulcrumr
bugger sad.gif that is a bit sad...

mum only dreamt of people she didn't know, but saw as dead on the news or paper a few days later.

Dreams can be many things depending on which school of philosophy you beleive, Freud believed that all dreams show is ur subconcious thoughts and desires. A lot of cultures believe that through dream you can gain access to the spirit world. I myself dream infrequently but when I do they can be strange, vivid, and sometimes quite disturbing or frightfully real. I quite often smoke various legal herbs to induce vivid, and lucid dreaming so far to some success.

There are strange things that lurk inside ones head I encourage everyone to listen to their dreams, the more you pay attention the more you will see.
missvixenr
i had a hell scary dream the other night....in it ikept passing out....and i still dont know if i like stopped breathing which caused me to pass out, but i kept trying to scream out for help but my voice wouldnt work sad.gif it was soooo real sad.gif
Elf82r
I had a dream the other night where i was in a room with other ppl and i was getting chased by a lizard. It was running over them to get to me, but it was like they didnt even see it. They just kept talking like it wasnt even happening. Kinda like i was there but i wasnt if u know what i mean......weird considering lizards dont even usually bother me.
missvixenr
i had another dream last night and everyone kept breaking my things, so i decided to go for a walk, but i never made it out the door cos i got distracted....and i started talking to some girl, and my vision went all funny and i couldnt see of stand up properly. wen i finally did go for a walk i ended up in a car, and i found out that a guy that i really dislike was coming and was throwing a party at the house i was at, so i tried to leave and all the cars rocked up, i kept walking and some of the guys followed me. and then one of them pulled out a knife and i kept trying to run cos i was scared, then he asked me to be his blood brother....so i pretneded to cut myself.....lucky i already had a cut on my hand from trying to clean up the stuff of mine that people kept breaking

.....stupid weird dreams tongue.gif
nickdubr
i had this dream once, and it was horrible!! i had lost all my hair, everyone around me was taller, i was living in a mates rumpus room, and i was driving a shitty corolla......................... er bugger. laugh.gif
NokturnLr
I don't dream often at all... if maybe a few times a year.... When i have a dream, it is like i'm living a whole life, and to details and i can remember every detail in it... I can describe just about every dream i've had this year.. a few have come to pass, like moments i had in a dream where actually really hapnin... And no, i don't induce it... so don't blame non-prescriptions...

I have a lot of "end time" apocolyptic dreams... as in 2 of 3 are apocolyptic...
cashewr
i dream every night... non stop... most nights i remember 2 or 3 dreams! i wake up some mornings feeling like i have not slept yet.... sux bad! but not really any that have actually come true!!

YET!!

smile.gif
HEFTYr
Shit, I hope mine don't come true! I seem to only recal bad ones!

The last one I can remember was a while ago but it really shook me up foe ages.

Someone had my 2 kids hostage and I had to make a decision on which one died, or both would be killed. How's that for a headfuck of a nightmare wacko.gif

bek666r
thats horrible hefty sad.gif
HEFTYr
Yeah definately fucked with my head for ages, (as it was a recuring dream). was a long time ago and not long after my divorce so I put it down to a subcontious fear of losing them completely to there mother? But havn't had anything like it for years now. phew

Does anyone know why the BAD dreams stick and not good ones?

I know I must have some good ones rolleyes.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

i dream quite often.. some i remember most i dont.. i quite often have nightmares that are so bad that im screaming in my dream but then as im doing it i can feel myself dreaming!? so i make myself scream even more to wake myself up & tear me out of my sleep/dream. 9 times out of 10 the scream from my dream carries over to when i wake myself up...very freaky & quite unnerving shit sometimes unsure.gif my gf hates it cos it freaks her out bigtime! sad.gif
As a kid (now ur all gonna think im nuts-if u didnt already think so tongue.gif ) i used to speak in tongues in my sleep. I was told one time that i was talking in tongues in my sleep, my folks heard it & came in, i was sitting bolt upright with my eyes open..they say on my bed & i turned to face them but was talking past them...
still gives me shiver thinking about it huh.gif

Best one i ever had was a dream that i kept going...each night was like a different episode & i shit u not every night flowed seemlessley! Was when i was a kid & i was the hero & i was helping Princess Leah (yes i can see all the lads out there smiling wink.gif NO not that kind of dream u devos! tongue.gif ) but it flowed so well was bizzare! Went for four nights in total... ahh Leah biggrin.gif laugh.gif cool.gif

Dreams are very powerful & u can learn alot from them. I have a LOT of deja vu & it freaks the fuck out of me...cos a WAY TOO HIGH percentage of what i 'see' happens.I once got to the end of a book (The Gunslinger by Stephen King-WICKED set of books "The Dark Tower" series) & as i was reading it, i knew wot was coming up next...i knew exactly what was happening to Roland before it did..so much so, i knew the end of the book before i got to it! each paragraph i was reading was already in my head...i can never forget how i felt at that time...i was actually in tears cos i didnt know how & why i knew it all but i did & it was completely mindfucking me!! blink.gif unsure.gif blink.gif such a scary uknown feeling..

The mind is a very powerful tool, & we use such a small small percentage of it...its quite scary really to think how much 'unchartered terrirtory' we all have up there blink.gif
=MS=r
I dream alot. Would it be the coolest to have a video camera in your head that you could press record 'on' when you slept and watched the whole dream again in the morning??? Some nights I dream epics like movie lenghts - that make absolute sense then other nights I dream lots of small indifferent dreams - would love to replay them....always in colour....always good....

That'd be sweet!

I hate those dreams where you think you're falling from something and then wake up just after you hit the ground! blink.gif

Ive had some shockers recently... really bad ones sad.gif

only because ive been getting a fair amount of sleep on my holidays... cant wait to go back to work so im not dreaming anymore... oh crap... thats tomorrow..! sad.gif

its funny, i have pointless dreams about things that arent relevent then they turn all nasty... best part about that is when i used to have bad dreams i would wake up confused, etc. now i wake up and go 'what the hell was that about'
tazr
I've dreamt that something's going to happen and then it happens. The only thing is I don't remember the dream in the morning, but when the event occurs I remember that I had dreamt it, deja vu. It's weird cause the first time I remember it happening was when I was about 8.

ive done that... like at work i forget i did something... no wait... thats incompetience, never mind tongue.gif

I almost never dream, and when i do i have very vivid ones that i can remember no problems the next morning, then 2 or three years down the track i will be in the exact situation that i was in a dream. it weirds me out, i hang out with people in dreams that i have never met before and then 6 months down the track i will meet them, kinda freaks me out sometimes.

there is nothing more fun then messing with the dreams of someone who is talking in their sleep, realy weirds them out, and then you can mess with their head the next day by mentioning something from the dream in passing
AnGeL^EyEsr
I had a fairly frightning one this morning that it woke me up and i cant go back to sleep because i didnt like what i saw...i have a dreams book and dont know if im daring enough to read the meaning of it.

if others remember their dreams and are would like to know what it means im more than happy to tell you what the dream book says. smile.gif

<insert disclaimer about these are my own views and are not in any way intended to tell people of what is right/wrong yada yada yada>

On average EVERYONE has 4 seperate dreaming sessions per night but due to the fact that some people sleep heavier than others influences how many dreams you 'physically' remember. Myself, i used to rememeber atleast 1 or 2 dreams every night and they were all very vivid, some were as mundane as a house brick and others were so twisted and convoluted they would give ANY foreign art film a run for its money!! you remember dreams because your conscious mind begins to stir in the night - dog next door barking, car passing by or just because - and takes in what your subconscious is pumping out and - since you're in a gaga shutdown state - treats it as "real", hence some dreams giving you feelings of pleasure or fear or of being a bit more real than you may like.

If you have been under a lot of stress or there is something in your life that is taking a lot of your time then it is only normal that you dream about it. Your subconscious basically takes in EVERYTHING you see, hear and do in a day and then processes it. Sometimes a story forms that makes a lot of sense and sometimes it seems so random that you think you'd need to see a psychologist. When you dream about something that comes true people are quick to say "it was fate" or "dreams are the key to something else yada yada" but this is a lack of faith in how powerfull our minds really are. We all know that there are times when you'll only see one side of a story for what ever reason - vested interest or what ever - but it is truely amazing how much more about situations you actually know to what your conscious mind lets on - The unconscious mind is not limited by the constraints that the conscious is. Those times you "for see" the future is actually an educated guess as to what will happen based on what you really know.

2 weeks ago i had a dream where i was standing outside a cafe on king william st, that doesn't actually exist in reality, in the city and i remember looking around and everything was so life like! i could feel the warmth of the sun on my skin and visually everything looked perfect - reflections off buildings, people walking past and interacting, cars indicating to turn - and i was standing in the middle of the road saying out loud "it is unbelievable how real this looks, i know it's a dream but it looks and feels so real!!" - yes i actually said that in my dream.... it still amazes me how visually descriptive my lil ol' noggin was.

Smp971 brought up a great point and that it's good to keep a pen and pad beside your bed and record what you remember, due to the nature of dreams they are rarely comitted to long term memory. This may sound like the stupidest most blatantly obvious thing to say but when you read back your dream think about what you actually felt then ask yourself why you felt it. before i go on, this isn't for everyone to do since it requires you to be completely open and honest with yourself and to look at and analyse what is actually going on in your life - surprisingly few people can actually do it without asistance. The only way a psychologist can tell you what one of your dreams means is by asking you "how did that make you feel?" or "what does that mean in relation to what is going on in your life?".

People and books that claim to say "if you dream about <this> it actually means <this>" are the BIGGEST load of ambiguous shit you could ever possibly listen to. everything has different meanings/feelings for everyone. have a look at spiders, some people are terrorfied and some love them to bits, no 2 people think exactly the same way. Yes many people may view the same things on similar grounds - which is what a lot of books generalise about - but the exact meaning is something a little different for all.

In summary - i'm getting RSI in my fingers - dreams, while possibly inspiring fear, should never be feared, they are simply a window to your own soul. it is truely amazing how many peope aren't in touch with themselves and this is the easiest way to do it. Take control of your own life and i hope you all enjoy learning about yourselves.

Peace

Phil

p.s. i have no formal qualifications on this but my sister in law is a psychologist going for her doctorate and i have many times talked at length to her about this. just my 2 cents, ah the old copper 2 cent piece, used to buy a whole bag of chocolate frogs back in the day!

p.p.s. there are many good books about dreaming that can help you understand and unlock your own dreams, if you're that way inclined i recommend you pursue it cos it is utterly amazing what you can learn about yourself.

p.p.p.s. sorry for making another massivly epic post but with this topic you can't just explain it in 2 words.

haha nice work philbert.....i agree with the whole this means this aspect of what ur talkn bout....that has always had me puzzled.....someone once told me that when i dreamt about something i meant that i had alot of anxiety about something......which i didnt......but it almost made me think i did lol......

hhmmm?? i dunno about the, quote Philbert "Those times you "for see" the future is actually an educated guess as to what will happen based on what you really know." bit because ive had dreams that have come true and theres no way that i couldve known that that was going to happen ie: does anyone remember when that lady got her foot munched by a polar bear at the zoo? can t remeber what zoo it was. was in the news about 10 or so years ago. well i dreamt about that. i dreamt about sitting in front of the tv watching it and then going into the kitchen and telling o good friend if mine. and then he turned around and said were having strawberry yoghurt with strawberries tonight. and i told people about it cause it was wierd and it freaked me out. and then it happened. theres no way i couldve made an educated guess about that....NO WAY. sorry Phil but theres more to it than that. i have proof....
philbertr
HE KNOW'S TOO MUCH, SHUT HIM UP!!!!!!!

tongue.gif laugh.gif

that is really wierd man! i honestly have no explaination for it yet; except for you had a sick childhood and constantly dreamt of polar bears eating peoples arms and legs.... how long before it happened did you dream about it??

dejavu is another that has been figured out - brainwave scans on people who get it a lot. pictures from your eyes eventually get to your visual cortex. your VC searches for any memory matches - chair? window? roof? friend? foe? the one picture gets broken down in to parts - and then forwards the info on to the logic parts of your brain. sometimes shit short circuits and the whole "frame" of what you just saw gets pumped through as if it were all the one memory, not seperate chair/window/friend thoughts. this gives the illusion that you've seen it before. kinda wierd but it's just your head short circuiting blink.gif
Candy_Catr
science shmience. it was at least 2 years ago that i dreamt about this happening before it happened. thats just one example though. it has happened since. de ja vu yeah. i believe in it. and i also believe in something OTHER. the fact that we are existant PROVES that we can see into the furture, BECAUSE we are constantly creating our reality. if we didnt we would cease to exist. in order to create our reality we need to create our future. we project ourselves upon our own reality. we are constantly creating and recreating our "reality". but what is reality? a combination of our own experience, AND the experience of our COLLECTIVE consciousness. what is reality? reality is i "remember" and i "project". therefore dreams can be a projection yeah? did i "remember" that it was going to happen? or had it already happened? or did i make it happen and everybody else remembered it?

I had a dream last night that I went back to my ballet company in Alice Springs and just got shoved in a tu-tu and had to do Swan Lake on stage, I had no idea what I was doing as they'd changed all the choreography! Then the changerooms had a secret underground tunnel it was weird... And one of my ballet girls wanted to go out to some place... and I went out in my boxer shorts and bra... Weird!!!

never underestimate dejavu dreams and co-incidences as they are very potent, and magical
things, surround these events................nobody knows the why?, or the how? one can harness these energies...........but allegedly they can provide momentum to better things.

I don't dream, or rather can't remember them, when i do dream or remember them, they are vivid landscapes, i am shrouded in a comet like thread of silvery gold??? and i am really tired and feel heavy when i wake. wtf.

I dreamt of my ex girlfriend last night......it was her funeral.....where they buried her in a Y shaped coffin........ ohmy.gif biggrin.gif ....just kidding! hehe

When you dream, you are in the REM part of sleep, your body is paralysed during this period, so you can dream about catching a footy without flying across your bedroom at night... pretty cool stuff. However, if you're having a full on physical dream, your muscles tense and you try to move, hence they have had resistance training while you were asleep, for lack of better term.

I get what is called a 'lucid dream", I start dreaming or keep dreaming as Im coming off REM, so Im 1/2 concious while having a dream, can be very weird. I have learnt to control my dreams to a degree, so I can make a real "decisions" and not freak out (I used to). I don;t get much rest when this happens...
