Hey everyone. Its the eve of Australia's favourite horse race and i want to know who's backing what and why!

Im not a big fan of horsey racing, but have been known to throw down a couple of bucks at the TAB for the Melbourne Cup.

My trifecta pick is

1st Leica Falcon
2nd Makybe Diva
3rd Eye Popper

I have no method behind my tip and take no resposibility if you back them and lose. But hey... Its worth a shot...

Anyone else got any tips to share??
The Flipstar
The Diva all the way m8

OK! i might have 10 diferent trifecta combo's then.

Theyre saying that her handicap is too heavy to win, but meh! I'll back her because she's pretty....
The Flipstar
If the tracks wet, she's going for the record!!!
The Flipstar
Watch out for Vinnie Roe, a deffinate inclusion in a trifecta
Oldskoolier
ya think? Its irish.... ive never seen a horse run backwards and win biggrin.gif
DeLr
makaybe diva for me. maybe vinnnie roe ina quinella those two plus a third im unsureof yet fo4 a trifecta and might chcuk some win/place on various hroses...

makaybe diva';s owned by my boss's brother in law and port lincoln tuna king Tony Santic so i always gotta back her when she runs!
Oldskoolier
Yeah, i'll be doing a whole heap of mystery trifecta's and bets because i have no faith in myself laugh.gif

My bets are attached.

whilst i love the diva and thought there aint no way they will enter her unless she wins it, the closer she gets to race day the more doubts i have about her. no one has carried more then 58Kg's to victory for over 30 years.

it wont be a dead track, that also works against her. gee's she only carried 55.5 kg's last year. my hot tip is Railing. and Leica Falcon a huge chance carrying only 50kg's. ITS ALL ABOUT THE HANDICAPS I TELL YA biggrin.gif

Oldskoolier
Yes i kinda thought the same, but its a huge risk to put such a champion in for a 3rd crack at the cup and risk possible injury. I think it will place or possibly win. Inside goss informs me she's been training with 62kg... SHH ph34r.gif

So it could be a breeze, but ive been quite diverse with my pickings for trifecta's because on many occasions its been who is best on the day for the conditions....

still ill be putting my $20 on railings.

feel the odds are stacked against diva this year. their number 1 mission was to peak in the cox plate. like i read in the paper today, its like the sydney swans playing the all australian team the week after teh grand final tongue.gif how true it is though. should get a place though.

I'm going to have a little flutter maybe, and my money's on Eye Popper. Why? Silliest reason. I was reading the big office sweepstake sheet from yesterday's paper and Eye Popper's trainer or jockey or someone like that had a Japanese name, and well...I like Japanese stuff, a LOT!

But really, I'm more concerned with going's on off the track. Go trackside fashion! Going to a luncheon tomorrow, purely for the opportunity to get all frocked up!

I have no idea about horse racing, i've got 11 Demerger, only because i picked him out the office pool! (hey it's only $2).
michr
mine will be whatever the office pool gives me... most likely the ones that have been scratched or are soon to be scratched!
MissPeppermintr
Whos stuck at work? ME! while my coleagues are gettin parro at the Stanford! Go to www.afternoonoff.com.au and put your names on the Toohey's Patition for Melbourne Cup!
slider
went to fleminton / melbs for darby day.. wow,
somehow managed to win a bucket load...

my bets this year: Xcellent for a place,
then eye popper and railiings for a win..

mark0maticr
I think, and bear in mind this is only a guess - I'm no expert on mounting... a bunch of cute widdle horsies are going to run around in a circle (more or less) for a while, and then one of the horsies will win!

The winner is almost certainly going to be a horse.
DeLr
won a bit... woudlnt say much most my placings ran slow. bvut i picke dup on diva for a win and scored the second place horse for a place bet..

my stars lucky nbumbers where 8, 16 i should of follwed them in a trfecta and stuck diva in for them aswell woudl picked up 7400$ as they all came thru!!!

ahhh if only....
Decepticonr
how stupid of me. backed it past 2 years and the cox plate and knew they would not enter it unless it was gonna win yet for some reason i talked myself out of betting on her. doh

Oldskoolier
silly silly....

i did well... no trifecta but theres always next year
michr
i got the diva in the office sweeps x 2 (as in 2 seperate sweeps).... did well for an old horse with a heavy jockey!!! thanks diva.. made my day!!
Amyr
Well I didnt win ANYTHING! Went in the sweep at work, and got "hugs dancer"... thought that it might be a winner seeing as i love hugs and love dancing.... hahahahah... NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Oh well, only lost $1.00 smile.gif
SpecialKr
haha i lost $7 in the sweep lol....should have just gone and placed a bet! i knew who i wanted 2 bet on yesterday and i would have been right 2!!!!
biggrin.gif oh well
~Em~r
I drew the horse that got 2nd in our sweep at work (can't even remember its name! *tired*)
cost me $5... got back $20 smile.gif

i placed a few bets, spent $21 in total, i was only gutsy enough to place $2 for diva to win and $2 for her to place, so i won all of $11.60. i felt so stupid i went into the tab on wednesday morning the guy infront of me collected over $180 and so did the guy behind me and all i got was a ten dollar note and some change!
