i'll start off with my;

mine are pretty clean atm, normally get pretty rough and dirty, cos any of my current projects are normally on the desktop while i'm working with them. once done and finished onto the storage drive they go

hey kandii --

press Prt Scr on the top right of your keyboard

open up MS Paint in the Program/Accessories part of the start menu

press Ctrl + V to paste your desktop

now save as jpg

and robs ya fathers brother

*edit - you may need to use another program like photoshop or something to rezise the pic

Press CTRL+W and then enter 75% as both values and press enter

Holding down ATL whilst pressing your print screen button will do that

If you have a Macintosh,

Command(Apple) + Shift + 3 = Full screen shot
Command(Apple) + Shift + 4 = Crosshair to select your window/section etc

Saves it as a PDF

Go the Mac! Can't get any easier

hmmmmm...at the moment I have some hardcore dude with a huge machine gun stolen from 'Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas' that my boy had on there....but he has his own laptop now so may just cruise deviant art for an SMP desktop.....stay tuned folks.....

Cheers mate! i took somewhere around 2000 photo's whilst in Japan. Its just so different and beautiful. If anyone has a chance to go, do so. Its a culture shock but well worth it

the image size is 2 big. reduce the size in KB by shrinking the image or using a greater .jpg compression. i think you get a size limit or 100k?? or post the images on an image hosting site and put a link to it from here.

Save your cash and go. It's worth it. Its also helpful to go as a group. Its easy to get disorientated. Im very good at reading maps but when they're small and lacking detail or its in Japanese, it's easy to get lost. And with people going everywhere, its even harder to get your bearings. One thing to note: there are very few places to sit down and relax. No bench seats in the street. Its so that people can keep moving unrestricted. Secondly, there are very few bins around so be prepared to carry your rubbish for a while! Just some silly observations we made whilst there.

Nar, Looks are deceiving in the Linux world...

Ubuntu, but highly customized, gnome with XGL, the desktop spins etc etc

, not using compiz, did some hacks on the standard window manager to make it work

Next purchase i want a Dell 30" Widescreen LCD, and two Dell 19" Widescreen on the Veritcal axis...

Put all coding on each side, main work/movies in the middle

Trust me... as a coder you need all the real estate you can get, i've got a laptop on the right hand side, using Xvnc to link the desktops up, however that doesnt show up in the screenshot cause it's not part of this physical desktop, Xvnc just makes the mouse and keyboard repsond when they tip over the right hand side of the screen, and just make them move on the laptop screen (not bringing laptop screen onto main desktop like normal VNC)

. now to try and setup several Dell GX240's as a cluster....

CentOS is ok... they run that at work too... it's a little clutzy but does the job... just at work they give no degree of control.... root root... where art thou root.... not even sudo access

i think there is some emulator for pc to run osx, but i'm not sure what its called and if it works..... but with new intel chips in apples and 10.4.7 universal, would be alot easier to do i think. afterall, you can now install windows on a mac.

i love the idea of xgl ('specially since i first saw the concept as part of project looking glass ...) but i have yet to be convinced that it is worth putting my poor hardware through yet

yeah, it's just for show, too distracting to work with but the useability of it is second to none. it's one thing to have an os that's "all powerfull" in the show it gives ya but personally i'd prefer to have it useable

this one is more for the tech heads out there. i run Linux with Xgl. on the right face there is a virtual machine of windows, it's a proper fully functioning windows installation except it's being run inside Linux. on the left face is the mandelbrot set, which for those who don't know is a crazy type of mathematics that was actually discovered by accident. the back ground is a tiny fraction of the mandelbrot set, i.e. you zoom in on different parts of the main pic and you can get to some really cool places...

but enough of my jabbering, here it is

the 1st pic is my normal desktop, im running dual monitors with remote desktop 2 another PC, thats why its double width.

this other picture is windows aero on vista, its an alternative to ALT + TAB, how cool is it. haha

Lemme get a pic of mine...I hate having HEAPS of desktop icons, it sh*ts me, and everytime Ace installs something he puts a desktop icon on there...Now he's banned from installing things

I need to find a new picture though, this one's getting old...

thats nothing, its when u start to get icons doubling up on themselves that u start to worry. oh and back in the days when i used to run my laptop monitor and another one next to it i used to have em both filled

can be a challenge at times to find important things e.g. uni assignments due the next day

who needs my documents when u have a perfectly good desktop

My Vista Desktop! So clean and nice...

Thats a picture of the biggest cluster of galaxies found... Observable are around 40 galaxies and quasars but expected to be thousands! Remember each galaxy contains around 5-6 billion stars (potential solar systems) this is over 200 billion stars observed currently... This is 10,800 million light years away 300 million light years across and 10 million light years wide! and nasa estimates it to be the first 5th of the begining of our universe... just goes to show how insignificant we really are...

Just so u know, it is an artist impression, ie Computer Graphics, but it's based on actual data from nasa. This is an official Nasa Picture!

ok here is my latest desktop. i was running vista, and while its not bad. i really got fed up with all the BS that comes with it, i.e, certain games not running, programs not running, hardware not supported because the lack of drivers, vendors of hardware not developing drivers for older pieces of hardware. the audio manager (volume control) is an absolute piece of shit!! I HATE IT, sorry about that... so yeah.. im running ubuntu now, its free and so is every program 4 it, and while i do have 2 load M$ PISTA (the woww starts now) WOW MY GAMES DONT WORK! for some things, im mostly using ubuntu, here is a screen cap of my 4 desktops :-) and believe me, it does way more than whats just in this photo. but its all animated and a screen cap aint any good,, so here it is.. i'll see if i can find a video of ubuntu compared to vista on you-tube, i know their is 1 and when i find the link i'll post it in here.

you can download the latest desktop version from ubuntu.com, its a 700meg download. you can boot from the CD and run the OS from disk, thats how i decided if i wanted 2 install it or not. so i decided 2 dual boot with vista cus their are some things its not as good at, and some things it cant do (like edit from my DV cam "as well" as windows, and cant play MOHAA) so i kept windows also. all i did was make a 5 gig partition on the drive 4 the install and a 270 meg partition for the swap file. and installed ubuntu, dont format the partitions cus ubuntu will use its own formatting.

i found that 4 my every day BS, EG, listening to music, surfing the web, MSN, e-mail, all the normal non specific stuff its better, WAY better than windows, and looks much nicer while ur doin it, and uses HEAPS less system resources.

give it a go, you might like it, you might not.... but i love it :-) and the most appealing thing is, it looks way better than microsoft's top OS, Vista Ultimate, retail about $800 depending, and ubuntu it 100% FREE and so is every program 4 it.
