I personally dont have a preference. I like all 3.

Tough V8's have their place and are usually in a car that suits them.
Smaller Piston engines also have their place in the car that suits them, and can guzzle half as much fuel but still be faster than an 8.
The instant power and massive rev limits of Mr Wankel's fine engineering should never be dissmissed!

What are your thoughts?

im really getting into american trucks. like the big ford, dodge or chev v8 trucks. fucking huge, so much power and alot of fun. nobody will fuck with you on the road with one of those babies. biggrin.gif

but now that im in canada they are everywhere and i want one!!! i have a chev v6 4 wheeled drive. but its exactly the same as that years chev truck but just with a back on it. it handles and sounds like one so its kinda keeping me happy for now. cool.gif

just need to pimp it out when i have the cash.

Rotor=Poo, no need to expand.

I have a 4, but 8's are the best.

Ive gad 4's 6's 8's and now own both a 4cyl and a Rotor.. and even tho i loved my v8.. nothing beats the excileration of high revving rotors.. and the handling of even a 20yr old rx7...

i lap mallala only 2-3 seconds slower than the turbo boys i compete agaisnt and mines a 12a s2 rx7... it out performed all (including s6 s7 rx7s supra, silvias and GTR skyline) but a super charged mini cooper S at the last motorkhana i competed in.. it does all that i ask... and looks sexeh!
fo_sho_manr
I like all types.. they all have their purpose.. twin turbs V8 would be killa.. V8 with lumpy cams sounds awesome.. straight 6 turbos are potent as.. 4's are nibble and in turbo are very quick due to sheer diet they get.. rotors, well, very very nice invention, shame no other major car manufacturer makes them too..

ps, support mazda and your supporting ford biggrin.gif
DeLr
i hate ford.. im a holden man.. but mazda is only a subsidery of ford... they are still MAZDA in my eyes wink.gif my car was a mazda way back then and still is now wink.gif

why do you hate ford?

so really, you have no real reason for hating fords other than your brother liked it and so you had to like holdens, interesting..
DeLr
hahah i guess its like... port vs crows.... u gotta pick one... so who do u go for. ive never liked much of fords styling the 80's cars i was brought up on where bricks the commdoore of the 80s stillhad far better styling in my mind.

ive owned 4 commodoores and a torana . never owned a ford tho my parents had one ( always had issues) and my brother blew two up... so was a personal choice to buy holdens because they apeeled to me
Oldskoolier
i like the fords, always have...... they build classic cars....
Oldskoolier
PS: my Dad has always had fords, although the first Brand new car he bought was a RX2 straight out of the factory. So new that when the motor blew it was replaced under warranty. He sold that and the guy who bought it hit a gutter and launched into a light post....6 m up.... and lived.... the speedo was stuck on 120mph..... lucky guy...

My first car was a TE Cortina with a warm 2L. I still miss that car...

first off, love the name of the thread XD secondly V8's thirdly holden, all fords are wikked from the mid 70's and earlier as is with holdens, my first car an HX kingswood with a red 202, not quick it did burnouts and i had a nice sterio, after that my VR commy, personally i would prefur a mint HQ monaro but this will do smile.gif i don't particularly like commodores but i'd pick one over any other mondern factory Australian built sedan.

In conclusion displacment over bolt-on's thank you

V8's over dumb rotors too...why'd you even bring up that waker wankel's invention newayz tongue.gif blaaahh!!!!

what about 4 cylinder turbo? i have a nissan exa turbo and love it.. quick enough in its standard form... dragging EB fords and VP commies. and being turbo its not that hard 2 make it go even better...(bigget turbo, intercooler, more PSI) im not much of a V8 fan. basically if its got turbo i like it :-)

not testing you at all dude, just trying to find out why you didn't like fords as most people just don't know why they hate a particular car, they just hate them.. pretty pointless hating something for no reason or a lame reason aye? biggrin.gif but I agree with you, a nice GTHO would be a treat.. one of the few cars thats gained value.. mustangs are another great example..
DeLr
mustangs and GTs are the only two fords id own wink.gif

i compete against a couple of XW -XY's at mallala not GTO's or anything spesh just v8s.. but even now they look good go good and sound good smile.gif

2 of my fav's. Id also like a Bronco. But nothing would beat a pristine Shelby in my garage. Im a fan of nice cars but when it comes to choosing between Holden or Ford i choose Ford.....

Harleyr
V8's all the way but i do respect rotors and juice cars. The technology that goes in them are just amazing.........
But still nothing sounds better than a cammy V8 with a gear drive. I had a XD with a 351 with all the goodies, toploader box and a 9inch with 3.55 gears. Boy did she move but with todays fuel prices there would be no way that i could afford to run it. Even my LTD Silver Monach is to expensive to drive. Fords are by far the best. Just look at the XA, XB Coupes Nasty cars. Even the GTHO's Shakers yum yum.
Im not a holden fan due to commodores but the early model holdens are nice. My mate has a 350 HZ and that moves along nice. A pig to handle but it moves nicely in a straight line. Another mate has a 94 GTHO MUstang. Now thats a head turner. The only problem with fords the lack in acceleration compared to holdens. Holdens have the gearing in the ass end right. All you have to do with a ford is make it breath alot better and thay will move.
And who could forget the 6cyl Cortina's! Fuel injected turbo mmmmmm. But i miss the days of competion drag meets where you see 5000hp Top fuelers. The smell of the alcohol and nos and the noise Heaven!!! Pro street aswell.
But as i said the price of fuel is crazy and you have to be a millionaire to own one these days thats why the skylines and rotors are way to go if you wana move on a cheap buck. My favourite rotor is the series 5. Black or red or convertible with big wheels. One thing tho if its a holden, ford, jap or europeon cars i have repect for them when you can see money spent on them.

Haha, nice! Me and my bro had a HQ Kingswood once, with pizza cutter wheels, it spun like hell and had no traction laugh.gif The other day I saw a tight mint as RARE HZ Monaro ohmy.gif

The other day when driving, some schmuck in a brand new VRX Magna cut thru me and the guy on my right when we were merging pushing me to the side of the road...like wtf, rude c*nt. So at the next set of lights, I sat level to him a told him what I thought of him wink.gif He couldn't believe I was giving him shit, because he was twice my size laugh.gif Then we took off, next set of lights, he tells...no...reminds me, my car is worth nothing, so as we are driving off, I very casually agree and start driving towards him, pushing him to the side of the road & he knew my $2k car is replaceable, but his new $40k-ish car would not be replaced, so he backed off...about six car lengths.

Moral of the story...Don't remind the guy you are pissing off that he has nothing to lose!

Just thought I'd put it in.

Fords have traditionaly lagged 5 or more years behind Holden, but these days they seem to be a bit more level. Before all the Ford heads shoot me down, think back a few years....

While Holden were injecting their V8 in the late 80's, Ford would have given their left testicle to have any V8 in the Falcon.
Holden introduced the independant rear suspension while Ford blundered on with ultra dodgy handling for another 6 or so years with a live rear axle.
Holden were turboing 6's back in 86, and supercharging them in 94. Ford waited til 2003!
Holden/HSV started stretching the 5.0L out to 5.7 in 94, then introduced the Chev 5.7 in 2000. Ford lagged behind in power for nearly 5 years before slotting in the bigger yank engine.

In Ford's defence, they don't look like letting that happen again, but now they are level with Holden, both of them are still 10 years behind anything made in japan laugh.gif

Now Holden are using a LS2 in their HSV's, 6.0L V8 ohmy.gif

hey Dav, some points are true. The VL commodore was turbo, but thanks to Nissan. The N13 Pulsar/LD Astra was powered by a holden engine, hence why the VL commodore was powered by a nissan engine (both companies shared alot of technology in the late 80's). Ford in the mid to late 90's introduce something into their engines that alot of people haven't noticed or know, that was variable intake runners in the EL/EF series (don't think the ED had it) and maybe the AU had it. It was world class technology that only the likes of european brands had, but sure, their performance has always been lacking due to their gearbox and diff selections. I don't know the reason why they stopped the V8s in the mid-late 80s and only introduced them back in the EB.. was a shame as the 351 was a popular engine. you can get XE/XFs which are EFI (crap EFI but none the less). Ford also did work with an external company (AIT I think) to build turbo falcons, of which there are a few around, but rare as..
Maori Messiahr
never built turbo falcons, ford along with sum rice producer managed to get it together and make the sierra which was a turbo, but still could not compeat in the early 90's vs the walkinshaw's and in respones to the VL commodore having a nissan engine....wooooaahhhh are you wrong firstly the HOLDEN 3Ltr was about 2 thirds of the weight and about a second quicker when up against the skyline, the engine was made by holden from a nissan design it was a HOLDEN engine and in no ways did it resemble the slugish rice burning piece of crap. NOW, rotors god where do i start on why rotors are dumb...i think i'll leave it at that ROTORS ARE DUMB sums it up quite well smile.gif i am quite content with that statment who is with me let us all join hands against all of the brapdat's on this site, oh btw brapdat ROTORS ARE DUMB SO VERY VERY DUMB DelusionL sorry boh but this dudes gone laugh.gif brapdat your rotor won't WILL NEVER EVER BEAT MY TORRIE the only thing that is in it is my love you can never love a car more than a car which has been on this earth twice as long as you and everytime you drive it makes you feel higher than the most intese peak makes your entire body tremble more than the longest orgasm you can ever emagine make you feel as much love as you do for you closest loved one, as much love as i have for my motherland Aotearoa... Which Holdens where injected in the late 80"s? Would that be the VN?? Thats the 1st of the Holdens to get injected am i right?

Harley
Oldskoolier
nope. the VL was injected. The VK was naturally aspirated. The VN came with free dodgy wiring. You may notice today if you see a VN brake with its lights on all the rear lights turn off and only 1 brake light turns on.... Pieces of SHIT!
SUPERSHOOTERr
Actually, the first Commo to use injection, to the best of my memory, was the VK Calais, which was like an 85 model or so. Oldschoolie, are you getting carby and naturally aspirated confused? The VL Turbo was the only Forced Induction Commo bought out by Holden, apart from their newer Supercharged Engines, everything else was Naturally Aspirated..
DeeAndrear
i tried to vote... but i'm a 6cyl man thru and thru... so i voted for all 3.

you'll find if you do some research, that the R31 Skyline is lighter than the VL commodore and has been shown to be quicker on acceleration. the VL commodore use the RB30 engine, thats a skyline engine, not a holden engine..
sure holden and nissan worked together to modify the engine, like they modified the camira engine for the N13 pulsar and LD astra.

you'll find that a 2.0L 6 cylinder engine will be smoother, and more torquey than a large 2.0L 4 cylinder engine.

DeLr
and a 2 litre 6 will probably use less fuel than a 2 litre 4.. do to the engine having to do less work.. similer facts are comparing the holden 202 engine vs the 253...
Davinr
Holy crap! Gees some bullshit circulates about cars LOL.

The RB30E and RB30ET in the VL were both made by Nissan, and were replaced in the VN because of cost. The aussie dollar took a dive making the jap sourced engines too expensive. The turbo version did have some input from Holden as Nissan had no such beast as the RB30ET, but it all came from Nissans awesome parts bin. An RB30 in the skyline was slower than the same engine in a VL commy because the holden ran 3.45 diff ratio while the nissan ran a 2.9. They are the same engine, all made in Japan.

VN tail light problems are mostly due to the lights filling up with water corroding out the sockets....made worse when the shitty korean made parts are fitted after an accident. This does not make the car a piece of shit. Incidently, 90% of the VN's problems were found only in the '88 builds and virtually all the V6's. The V8 versions suffered no more problems than any other local or imported car of the day.

The 84-85 VK came with a Bosch fuel injection system as an option...but the Calais got it standard. Thanks to the 2.7 diff ratio in the 5.0L, the injected 6 was just as quick as it's V8 brother! The VL was the first Dunnydoor to get EFI standard, unless you grabed the V8 which was the last to be carby fed. The first V8 to get injected was the VL HSV Grp A (Walkinshaw) in 88, then the regular models saw injection in the last few months of 89 in the VN.

For anyone asking why you would want a 2.0L six instead of a 4......drive one then pass comment on the subject. The Nissan RB20DET is one of the finest exemples i can think of. Despite being one of the slowest cars I have ever owned (roughly low 14sec 1/4 mile), an R32 with that donk in it is my fave car to this day...bar none.
