IMO that's just not true... lived in Sydney for 2 years and the maintenance on their roads is much worse that in SA.
lolo
hybrid cars are looking more and more attractive. High fuel prices are inevitable as it is a fossil fuel and wont last forever.
fo_sho_man
well, I'm sure the only worst roads we have are our country roads, because the whole nation is pretty average. I've driven in QLD and VIC and been in NSW and all those roads are very average. the thing with VIC is, they are always working on something to do with their highway system..
DeL
at 1$ a litre the government earns approx 47cents a litre 38 cents in EXCISE and 9 cents in GST
so every sent the price goes up as simon said... the government earns more in GST.

this was their plan yrs ago. to rape the country blind with GST on fees and charges and on retail side of thinsg as the retail markets always on the way upwards.

more lies and bullshit " the country will be better off" no.. just the people in power to give themselves pay rises...
DeeAndrea
heh... i've been lovin it, if running petrol in my car.. i only use premium, so it's farken sexpensive... BUT it's also on gas.. b00ya, filling up my 70 litre tank costs me... wait.. wait... $25... oh yeah.. give or take obviously. It's great.
morpheus
fo_sho_man
yes, I need to get a new car or put gas on my ute, then I'll be smiling until the gov excises that too..

DeL
leaded... just run Premium... just about the same price...
joker4
the main reason why i cot rid of my eb xr6 cause i cost over $60 to fill up on PULP, now its costing me that much for the lancer on PULP

aarrrrrhhh, it jusat gets me so angry
shagsalot
i used to pay 25 - 30 dollars to fill my car now it cost 40. i am buying a house and want one next to the kids school so i dont have to pay for petrol anymore, i have to drive nearly half hour to get them there so i stay at my dads all day (short walk from the school) cause i cant affred to go home then come back. and they are doing stuff to the roads here, they are putting round abouts and traffic lights where they dont need them.
morpheus
what a load of crap damn links not working... but thats ok... my car still makes me happy when the boost comes in :D

hmmm *looks at rotor* maybe gas one day tongue.gif nah too many head frks i think..
DeeAndrea
mmm.. i think you'd better leave that one alone tongue.gif

Though i have an issue... i'm gonna eventually wanna put in sub(s).. that means i'll hafta sacrifice my gas tank.. or lose 100% of my boot space.. thou depending on which subbies i want, may lose both. sad.gif ah well.. will deal with that later i guess.

Another thing is, when i start modding the engine too, it'll be running a higher compression ratio.. which means i wont beable to run gas then either, or else it'll be knocking it's tits off. Oh dear, the sacrifices of money for your pride and joy hey?
DeL
and also running subs in the boot will soudn crap as the sound will also echo from your gas tank and depening on what state of full/empty ur tank is it will sound different inside the cabin...

Do some research on LPG.....I think you're in for a nice surprise when you find out which one will ping/detonate first. There are some crazy LPG turbo setups around. A lot of fiddling around, but wow!
DeL
fo_sho i seen an rx7 on gas.. flew in a guy from interstate to tune it..3 months later it was on petrol as was too manyhead fucks for the every day user/tuner...

for the big guys with lots of money yeah id see a use as pure gas ( no petrol) cars are very fast and efficient, its the dual fuel cars that lose pwer and efficiency due to haveing to detune it for petrol as compared to the gas tuneing.

yer i dont know bout u, but yesterday i hoped in the work sprints car and they had 1395 on am, and they where talking bout the petrol prices, and the above figure came up, and thats funcking bull#@%& mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

they are predicting that ULP will hit to over $1.50 by christmas (well there goes all my christmas money gone!! mad.gif mad.gif )

other things they where saying was: that the rann government of today is the highest taxing government in SA history (now that i can beleave)uuuummmm

another good point they made was that the pertol we are putting in ours cars now are the petrol the companys brought over 12months ago an $39 a barrel, yet they are charging us the price of what the barrels are now at $70+ a barrel.
now even if this is not true, for them to buy the oil from oversea, there is now way for the oil companys can get the oil back over here that qiuck, for them to charge us they much, there is no way they can sea over oil in 2 days,(that how long b4 the price go up at the pump)

now if u can understand any of what i just wrote, well done, cause it got me confused when i wrote it lol tongue.gif
SupraPolak
I've got two turbo imports, both with 70L tanks and both need PULP so I'm looking at around $60-$80 a week (each) and that's just normal driving to/from work/school/shops!

Bush is a tosser but Howard is much worse for following the lead of a well known tosser.
DeL
Howard has little man syndrome... trying to make the biggest splash possible.. the biggest mark he can before some one sees sence and vote him out..

heard the lastest .. he wants to lower the tax bracket for those who earn 125k^^^ a year... wat about us that are struggling on the under 40k a yr mark (average weekly wage earnings has just been announced at just over $1000 a week) hw bout whiping the bottom tax bracket out all together.. and lightening the load on small guys and leave the big money earners where they are!

well wont it be fun when it gets too 1.80 per litre we will all be driving suped up mopeds next year

lol ur probably right too....maybe this is johny's way of trying to get less polution in australia. by increasing fuel so less people want to have cars rofl......his not doing a very good job if he is laugh.gif
DeL
hmm mad max style petrol wars... cars with super chargers that can be operated at a flick of a switch...
Davin
Silly bit is, we are almost 100% self sufficient when it comes to petrol. If the yanks or arabs never gave us another drop of fuel, it would barely make a difference to us. Stupid agreement to align our oil prices to the rest of the world......

Something that needs to be highlighted again and again and again.... the cost of supplying oil hasn't gone up, but the profit margin and tax revenue have nearly doubled in the last 2 years......a doubling of a profit margin that was already obscene! How about the oil companies donate their extra profit to the needy
DeL
we export our oils and fuels out of the country, and import the refined versions back..
sell our LNG (liquid natural gas) over seas at mere cents per litre.. yet we charge our drivers 45 cents a litre to use it here in australia...

what shits me is ever seen the cost of a BBQ gas bottle to fill up??/ like for 9 litres its rediculously high priced!

as far as i know, yep! except they add sumthing to the stuff used in our cars to make it smell pretty..

my old man (being the twisted mechanic he is) actually hooked up his home gas to a spare lpg tank once, filling it a little, to see if it was the same.
he connected the tank to a falcon he was fixing and he reckons the car ran exactly the same.. cool.gif

There is this thing around now called servo savers, where a heap of small businesses have joined together to save us money off of our fuel bill. You can save up to 15cents a litre by shopping at the participating shops.

Pretty much the deal is, spend a qualifying amount (varies from shop to shop) in one transaction at any of the participating businesses, and then take those dockets to a participting servo to get your discount.

1 docket = 5c off per litre
2 dockets = 10c off per litre
3 dockets = 15c off per litre

a limit of 30 litres applies

They have a website Click here
definately worth a look smile.gif

any saving is a good saving biggrin.gif
kandii
We've only just caught on to this, but apparently its been around for a while. Anyone else use it??

Bwahahaha, me and a friend went to a servo, and it turns out she must only have a thirty litre tank, coz her car was below empty, and we filled it to the rim, and came to 27.5 litres
fo_sho_man
those dockets can be a joke and waste of money for some.. 4c/l is usually about 1 or 2 dollars saving. they get you to spend a min of $30, they make more than 1 or 2 dollars of profit for every $30 you spend, so who is coming on top? not you. some people try to spend over $30 just for a docket, what a waste.. I don't bother with vouchers where I can..

sure is.. not looking good.. like how the americans have a hurricane and then have to increase the fuel price because of that. here they say that America is the richest country in the world (not my words) and they are asking for financial assistance and upping the price of fuel. Its unfortunate that the people had to be put through the hurricane, but I don't think the rest of the world should also have to suffer. it will get to the point that when something like this happens again, no one will be able to donate as they spent all their money on damn fuel!

come on government stop crippling middle australia and lower this bloody tax. almost 60c a litre goes to it.

should keep it at a reasonable 30c per litre, which is the same amount they wouldda been making a few years off it anyway! i cant exactly see any of that cash going back into our roads. no all johnny does with it is give a billion dollars of it to indonisia and all they do is lock up our citizens and let out the ones that try and blow us up :|

Fill it up and drive on... I refuse to care about it...

1. higher prices better for reducing emissions because people drive less
2. higher prices make other fuel sources like hydrgen more feasable
3. higher prices give people more reason to car pool and catch public transport

I'm not sure how I feel about it... but one thing is clear, everyone else isn't happy about it!

I PERSONALLY DON'T DRIVE SO THIS SOESN'T AFFECT ME, BUT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DO I RECEIVED THIS EMAIL TODAY.....

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN AUSTRALIA
DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT
THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR
STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET
LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE
OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK
IT UP THEIR BEHIND " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT
BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT DAY.
THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL
TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD
OUT.

WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES
IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL
IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF PETROL GOING
UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES,
TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS
PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING,
BUILDING SUPPLIES MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE
DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE
AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO
EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE SEPTEMBER 22nd A DAY
THAT THE CITIZENS OF AUSTRALIA "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

WHAT DO YOU THINK? huh.gif

Everything else seems to be getting more and more expensive...and petrol is just crazy now..yet our wages dont go up to justify the inflation! grr!
I think im gona have to turf my Commy in favor for a more "economical" car. Spending $80 every time i fill up just to get 400kms out of the tank is getting a bit silly...
toby74
aint nothing any of us indivdually can do about these damn prices, but as has been mentioned previously, should be a great incentive to get people out of their cars and into public transport, pushbikes and good ol' Shanks' Pony smile.gif

it struck me the other day (while I was driving) that our whole society is built around the Automobile, and thus fossil fuels. Seems really silly thinking of it now 'cos those fuels were never going to last forever ... and that's not even considering the pollution, deaths and injuries, and all those other consequences of running controlled explosions under the hood.

there are alternatives and now would be a grand time for resourceful entrepeneurs to stand up and promote them.

investigate hybrid cars, hydrogen power, centralised mass transit systems, new urban design methodologies ... or even just running trams on the lines they used to run 50 years ago ...

there are solutions to this mess but I fear we will have to go through anarchy before they are implemented ... well it was a good run while it lasted!

hmmmm. interesting, I know that petrol prices suck but petrol is still cheaper per litre than milk.
Oldskoolie
Not only am i still pissed about my $50 tank of fuel 2 weeks ago...

Yesterday ..... $58

Fuck..... but considereing a tank lasts me over 2 weeks i guess i should smile a lil bit.
kandii
There is definately a noticable effect on Adelaide with the fuel price rises.

At my work, until a few weeks ago, it was bloody impossible to get a car park. Now, its almost guaranteed. So many more people are utilising public transport or car pooling. Its great, its actually a bit unfortunate that it has taken something like this to have more people use PT or car pooling.

But, yeah, the prices are absolutely ridiculous. And what can we do about it? Shit all.

With the september 22nd email, I got that too, but I thought i was saying not to BUY petrol on that day. We can still drive on that day. Or, did I missread it?

On Friday night when I went to Mallala to pick up my son, my dad had gone somewhere in the lanos, so I had to take their bloody 4wd prado (i borrow my olds' car to make the trip, always take the lanos coz it is cheaper on fuel) and for a return trip to mallala, it cost me $25 for fuel!!!! Its only an hour and a half round trip!!! NOT HAPPY!!!!

its definitly making a difference to me. ive heard that rumour too decepticon, rotaries can run on hydrogen.. just cant wait for the technology in storage comes thru. got some rx8s in japan running hydrogen already.

fuel prices are rediculous when it works out the governments milking us dru thru the excise and then the tax on top of it. but untill theres a case brought agaisnt them nothing will be done. howard has covered his ass once again and ruled out an enquirey on the prices.
we dont need an official enquirey WE KNOW WHERE THE RIP OFF IS!

water use is a fantastic idea but probably not the best solution for the driest state on the driest continent... we have water shortages as it is... and the water they use must be completely pure from my understanding so the cost in purifying recycled water (which we'd have to use as we don't have enough water as it is here) would skyrocket the use of water for fuel.... not sure that australia would be any better off if water were used instead at this point in time.

i'm just as appalled tho.... with insurance, rego, petrol and licence renewal costs I can't afford to run my little 1.4 litre car unless i sell a lung...

When petrol hits $2 a litre, I'll be stealing plates and doing petty runs! mad.gif

I'd just like to say to all those hippies out there who suggest using public transport, you people are living in a dream world, in Melbourne or Perth it's a good idea, but in Adelaide, we have the poo-iest public transport system. The trains are slow, off time, irregular. The busses take long winding routes that take forever and the don't run as often as they should. We only have one tram line that is beneficial to those who live nearby it.

Not to mention, public transport isn't as cheap as it's made out to be! $20odd, thats ten trips on a multitrip, so that's five days work for the average joe, to work and from work. For $20 I can drive my 4cylinder in and out of town 5 times, like the multitrip and still have petrol to spare. So why would I chose to sit in a smelly train or catch a painful bus ride, also, by driving I'd free up about 2-3 hours extra a day by not having to wait for trains and busses to arrive, let alone take their enormous route.

I'm sorry, but i dont really understand what everyone is complaining about!! petrol prices have steadyed out i admit, but even at its peak it never really dented my budget.

I used to have a Daewoo Lanos and put $50 a fortnight into it... then just after prices started to rise i brought a Toyota Celica, and i still to this day put in $50 a fortnight and it keeps me going till next payday.... only in a blue moon do i need to add a little more money to the fund. I mean, if you drive a 4WD everywhere you have no right to complain. who drives a 4WD in the city, it's just ridiculous!!

Kandi, Fuel has not steadied out. it still goes from $1.11 on tuesday to $1.25 on wednesday.

why??/ wat influences teh 15 centres a litre increase?

i filled up scooter for $1.11 today.. then took the rx7 for a drive and coudlnt find anywhere lower than 1.19$ half n hr later.. i had to fill up for $1.25 a litre?? why teh discrepeancies.

if u only use 50$ a fortnight ur lucky. its the big users that get hit hardest like truckies that get 2km per litre.. and fill up 500 litres at a time. its the added effect on transport costs that gets passed onto everything u buy...

foonjir
wish i had my camera a few months back, we clocked up over $500 in diesel at pt.agutta biggrin.gif

but i normally do around 500km every 10 days... so i spend anywhere $180 - $250 a month on fuel, and thats half my pay for the month sad.gif

consider those that it used to cost $50 a week to fill the tank up and now u cant get change from $70

and no it hasnt steadied out. its ppl like you that the government prey on where now your jumping up and down think 1.11 a litre is now cheap. so now we will shut up about the constant bitching about prices. theres no need for it to be that high when right on australias door step (malaysia) they are selling the same fuel for under 60 a litre.

sure we pay more taxes n shit. who cares. i still dont see it going into road mateniance. not to mentaion the huge increase in percentage of speeding revenue they are also raking in with the new 50k limit.

Word up Transformer man!

Main roads in suburban area's are in absolute shit condition considering 50%odd of petrol is tax, as well as having to pay to drive on the road about $500 a year or whatever.

Great job the government is doing giving all that money to shitty countries that will never help us or countries that lock up Australians over minor issues without fair trial.

I'd rather have my driving smoooooother and safer with better road conditions than have some giblet in some unheard of country get fed for a week off of 7.6c.

for me i have to drive almost from end of twn to the other, pooraka to glenelg, for some other ppl it can be further. i put in 1 tank (now on wed morning cause that the best time to get it)and have to put in PULP, and if im lucky it cost bout $60, and thats for a lancer, now i get bout 550 km to a tank, but it used to only cost me bout $45 at the most

it might now sound alot for some but if u live by ur self, and single, it is a bit hard on the wallet

that tank last me just for one week, and thats only going to work eack day, and the ark, and after that, bugger all.
