In the beggining....

SO the question is... where did it all begin. Clearly none of us were born ito the rave scene so it must have begun somewhere.. blink.gif

Was it your friends tongue.gif , family biggrin.gif , one random intoxicated experience wink.gif , or perhaps the love of the music, whatever your genre cool.gif

For me it was perhaps a combination of all of the above.. but I think it was mostly the music.

I grew up in the country (not far from here), and on the odd occasion may be seen in a pair of RM Williams moleskins, red flannie shirt with the blue truckie singlet and an ice cold rum can laugh.gif although instead of LEE KERNIGHAN blaring out of the stereo in my Ball Busting B and S ute, you may hear anything from Hard Trance to Freeform... and everything in between.

Perhaps I should change my User name to 'Techno Cowboy'... blink.gif

Naa...

And so I guess it began with the music, a night out to Earth to see LAB4 raged out lovingly by my cuz.. and the odd drink or too tongue.gif

Im not quiet sure if this is necessarily a bad thing

i think it involved a nite at Heaven, a couple of more experienced friends to take care and guide me, and of course me for the whole nite with the biggest grin on my face i ever had..

no turning back from there

although i'm more in search of music that hits the spot to compliment everything else and to share with friends!

"its about the experience; not the substance" wink.gif

For me, it all began 1989-ish
at Metro -- Housemaster C, Groove Terminator, Major Move aka Scott Thompson
(looks into middle distance and goes bleary eyed (or is that blurry eyed?))
Davinr
Ark, Metro/STATE, and other assorted clubs that I won't admit to unless under the influence smile.gif

It started with "Doof - lets turn it on". A simple copy cassette for the car. It was good.

It developed with a night at heaven "Ministry of Sound" was touring in 1995. I knew nothing of the dance music scene, but so enjoyed the energy of the music.

Evolution was completed when a couple of experienced friends showed me the way to enlightenment.

A RAVER WAS BORN biggrin.gif

the fog has cleared yay oh now i have flashing lights and a really deep thumping sound
think i will keep trying to remember...... doof...doof...doof flash...flash its comming back oh nope thats just the stereo
happybr
well it seems that the fog has cleared the lights are off so the stereo.
for me it all began in 80S (dont ask me which 80) and i was going to school and beat street the movie was out and from that day forward i formed a crewand bought a whopping big ghetto blaster which i would carry very proudly on my shoulder with the volume up to 8 (it would distort after that) listenig to herbie hancock we would find shinny floors to do all our stuff like head spins, back spins etc etc so from that day on i loved electronic music although saddly i lost my crew left school smoked stuff i shouldnt and ended up listing to pink floyd and led zeppalin. my friends an i would go see bands all the time and none of them liked doof doof music but because i loved the beat i would dance or try and get my friends inside clubs, which never worked until the BIG TICKET (cant remeber what the night was called) opened up across the road from "THE VENUE" so off i would go and ditch my friends to go there.
but i still hadnt become a raver until my partener(eskimopie)and i were given a tape called
doof doof lets turn it on then saw a ministry show but still no raver spent that whole year trying to be one but still nothing.......until "IBIZA" we had 5 days there and had no idea of what to excpect (we went b4 the ibiza showon tv) but 2 days later we hadnt sleept and had danced to a thousand different DJs we saw so much in those 5 days from mannumisum costumes people having nooky on the dance floors so many small clubs and the big ones were just ammazing its like heven 20 times bigger and better after we left i took some video of us travelling on a train i showed it to one of my friends and she just said ....man you look so much like a RAVER.... thats how to make a short story long

I'm glad you've enjoyed yourself biggrin.gif it wouldn't have been the same without you (not only Summer Enchanted, but the past 12 months biggrin.gif).

I'd known Josh/Shadow for about a year but we'd never really socialised outside of University .. I also had a friend named Sarah (who was Lauren/Candy_Cat's best friend at the time) .. Lauren and Josh got together (via that link between Sarah and I), Lauren was into raves but Josh and I most definitely were not .. June anthems 2005 came around and Josh and I got convinced to come along.

After about 45 minutes we decided that we needed to start going to raves more often.

The rest is history smile.gif

hell yes...i think i remember something of it...i didn't really start raving until a few years back as such, but i always enjoyed dance music. Well, i was in Amsterdam with my american friend Dylan, and, well, it was amsterdam, and we were young, impressionable exchange students... what do you think we did? we had a ball tho, and i haven't looked back since...biggrin.gif

When I turned 18 an old friend of mine promised to take me out to Heaven, and eventually got around to taking me out to Chemistry for a night (Matt Darey, w00!). The whole night I had all these people I didn't know asking me whether I was coming to Enchanted and by the end of the week I'd decided to go. Took a loan off my then boyfriend, trundled down to venue*tix at the last last LAST minute, got a spiffy outfit together and WENT HAPPILY RAVING EVER AFTER! happy.gif

It'll be coming up my 2nd raving anniversary this Enchanted. wub.gif

Well... Its not really started for me yet.
I love the culture, the music, the outfits but im yet to experience any of it for myself.

I keep getting told there are no real raves in Adelaide.

But the thing that got me into was my love for the music, and then when i saw "Human Traffic" iwas hooked!
sectorx4r
I got hooked on Trance back when I got a hold of a tape my dad had bought called KLF, loved the music but never bothered to find anything more like it until a couple of years later when I got the internet. That was probably back in 1990's somewhere.

Then about 7 years later one of my friends in high school wanted me to go out to heaven for chemistry and I figured why the hell not, I didn't really like dancing but I loved the music and atmosphere and it went from there. Been on and off for a while due to work and other commitments but im hooked tongue.gif

the bad effects of illegal activities laugh.gif

before i give ya all my story i just wanted to say that it's cool that so many people from so many different walks of life have come together not just on this site but outside of too, birds of a feather...

well, it all started years back shortly after the big 2k. ever since i was a sperm i've listened to underground oldschool hiphop - not gangster rap or anyone you would have heard of before - but i was always of the thought "****ing techno, all it is is doof doof doof, where's the soul?! where's the skill?!". One day my best mate PeAk prescribed getting toasted of my titties and listening to this cd he gave me from start to finish - Gatecrasher Discotech. So i followed the doctors orders to the letter and was blown away at how, for want of no other words, fraking awesome that compilation was - a bit dated these days but it still holds a special place in my head, heart and feet smile.gif.

My very first rave was summer enchanted 2002, previously had only gone out to clubs 'n' shit. getting there in the first place was a TOTAL debarcle and an epic journey in it's own right but was well worth as by the time we got there everyone was cranking and it totally rocked. This was also a landmark event for me for the people i met. At some random time in the night i spontaneously decided to go walk about and check things out - not that i had ANY clue of where i was going or why i was going, but it was a good thing. I walked past a group of people sitting down on a rug and heard someone say "yeah, i've got a copy of Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five - The Message on 12"". i stopped dead "WTF was that?!?!?", sif there were b'boys, or b'girls, going to raves, the girl intro'd herself as sharan - of SMP971 fame. I chilled with her and her friends for a while before needing to go on another walk <insert approx 30 mins of blankness, actually there were pockets all over the place tongue.gif>. wasn't til about 6 months later that i re-met sharan at a hiphop gig and got to become good friends from there. now, here i am smile.gif

cheers to all who have made my raving experiences inviting, comforting and above all friendly, ALL YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

Um, i haven't experienced a bad rave in adelaide yet... Although we lack some people numbers, we are a dedicated crowd... small n fairly tightknit, i will miss adelaide rave when i leave...

U know somewhere where theres no real raves...... Perth... They're all Kandihaters there.... sad.gif
Unbalancedr
i belive the "no raves in adelaide" belief is said by people who compare adelaides rave seen to places like ibiza.
NokturnLr
Ibiza? Thats clubbers... Ravers are more like Amsterdam and other european nations... Ibiza is a Party/Clubbers paradise...
Unbalancedr
not my caper - the two examples ive heard compared are Gatecrasher in UK and Amnesia in Ibiza.
NokturnLr
when we have a raver population of 50k+ within a 80km radius we too can have big festivals like that... We have thousands of ravers at our enchanted... per capita in adelaide is quite extra-ordinary... smile.gif or even just the 1200 or so that are regular anthems goers...
mitzymadr
ive allways kinda liked hardcore since i was about12 but only got totaly in to it at black cat well gateway now and its all because of rob gee and H-Bomb smile.gif thay were playin the first time i went there and ive never been to back to rise since haha
