Mains Power Backup

as we speak, my whole area... golden grove... tea tree gully... greenwith and all have no power.... and they are replacing a blown transformer atm...

so atm. its amazing i still have 1 operating computer and net connection with wifi which i'm currently using to post

within 30min of power going out i was goin mad... grabbed a 12v motorbike battery, and a inverter and set out on a quest to restore the net... 15min after fixing the polarity of the connector on the battery and replacing a fuse which was blown in the inverter, i had my wifi and modem up and running and connecting to the net.

so now i can go on the net on my laptop while the power is out

yay!

so wat crazy backup plans do people have in their house? or what have you done to overcome a power outage problem?

only got an hour of batt left on my laptop, and i have no idea how long the inverter and bike battery will last

lol, thats pretty cleva....i would have just lit some candles and got pisd of at the eletric ppl ...but i think urs works better

well 4 me i still using dail up, and i have a long phone line cable, and i would go sit in the car cause that has the inverter for the PS2 in it and chat in there

We had a black out at work today, i was soooo pissed off coz I lost about an hours worth of work grrrr.....

Although had to laugh, the sound of 500 people sighing and saying quietly "oh shit" all at the same time was pretty funny! Coz it was pretty much in unisen which made it pretty loud!

We have generators for back up, but they took about 15 mintues to kick in this morning. No idea why... but then it took us all about another 20 minutes to reload all our systems and applications and argh.... i wasn't happy!

Our team sits next to the IT team, and i tell you what, it was nice to see THEM actually DO SOME WORK for once!!!!

haha yeh IT would of been having fun with their servers dance you little IT monkeys! dance!

how's this for timing... 10 seconds after the laptop finally dies, the power comes back on

i dont trust computers they really are quite evil machines, so i save regulary

I have a trusty UPS to keep things going for a bit...but I was thinking about getting one of those mega cheapy 650VA generators from Bunnings to keep essentials going during major blackouts. I was getting a bit worried about the fridge and deep freeze last time we had one for a few hours.

WHAT RAVVY DOES IN A POWER FAILURE...

*Sigh & say "Oh shit" in unisen with the other gazillion ppl who possibly lost power... haha
If its day time:
*I'll go do house work
*I'll go sit in the sun
*I'll make myself breaky lunch or tea, if im too early then i'll just make it and put it aside...
*I'll go sit in the sun and read a book
*I'll tidy the house and my room up
*I'll go sit in the sun and sleep
If its night time:
*I'll call up a friend
*I'll light lots of candles
*I'll call up a friend to see if theyre home
*I'll light lots of candles and tell spooky stories to anyone that cares to listen
*I'll call up a friend to see if theyre home and go visit them cos they have power and i dont
*I'll go for a random drive
*If all else fails, i'll just grab my phone and go to bed

SOOO boys and girls,
always have CANDLES, MATCHES/LIGHTER, YOUR PHONE, YOUR CAR KEYS, YOUR BED, A BOOK AND A MESSY HOUSE CLOSE AT HAND or just simply remember where they are, AND YOU'LL NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM!

get all romantic and cook dinner by candle light.. happened a few weeks ago. lucky i have gas stove and heaps of candles.

shame i was dining alone but i did open a bottle of red wine and have a quiet enjoyable meal

i got a UPS but i think its finally died.. if power goes out my ups is dead with in minutes. battery was be dead in it wont hold charge its fair old...

Be on the same grid as the airport... reduces your blackout time QUITE ALOT

live in the hills...you have 30 second blackouts cos the stupid possums try to commit suicide!

im in the west adelaide area.. 3-4km from airport just get HEAPS of power surges and brown outs.. not manyt total power outs. but the lights dim all the time...

the power goes out just long enough for u to think 'yay i get to go old school 2nite and walk around the house with candles' and then it comes back on ....and then u have to set the time on ur vcr again

i hate those bloody possums and those damn 30 second blackouts.
a couple of weeks ago it went off in the morning, so i had to set the time on my vcr again (i use the clock on my vcr all the time) ....then i came home to find that my vcr was flashing so we had obviously had another blackout, so i set the time again.....and then i was inbed watching tv and it went off again, so iwhen it came back on i was fair shitty so i didnt set the time again cos i thought it was just gonnna go off again soon,......but NO it didnt, so i went two days being stubben and not setting the time, and then i gave up and set it. the next day another possum commited suicide and it went off again......... stupid animals lol
