~Em~
Hey everyone!!

After Natasha's and my in depth conversation about mascara last night, I thought I'd start a thread where we can all recommend products & service (or warn others off) - whichever the case may be!!

NOW THIS IS FOR GUYS JUST AS MUCH AS GIRLS!!!!

it can be anything from skin care to haircare, massage to haircutting/colours, nails, body care, parfum, cologne etc etc....

I'll start with.... my new moisturiser. Its called timewise and its from Mary Kay. It is really light and silky, goes on beautifully! AND!!! It fights aging!! Wahoo!

Prevention is better than a cure I say!!
eskimopie
gotta love anything that fights aging. I wanna look as young as I act haha. Drinking heaps of water is my beauty secret, it definately keeps my skin looking good.
~Em~
Yeah I'd have to agree with you there eskimopie!!

You know, before I started raving I barely drank water, now i drink at leat 1.5 - 2 litres a day. I don't know if the two are related, but before I started raving I'd be lucky if I drank water once a week. Now, I always have a bottle of water with me.

Um... here's a question for the ladies... I'm thinking of having my nails done... I have had both acrylics and gels, but am unsure which to get now? which are stronger and whih are better for your nails??
missvixen
heard acrylics are stronger but gels are better
Oldskoolie
I use Dermalogica facial products. Thats why im so beautiful!
Best facial treatments and general beauty, and hair....
They also sell clothing and accerories for girls, as well as Napoleon Perdis brand make up which from what i have seen is amazing stuff.
missvixen
i love my johnsons hair minimising cream, i use it every day (well i try - i suck at routines)
it works pretty well and it moisturises good too.
and i also love my peaches bodybutter, i got it for $3 from insane (it think). it smells good and its also a great moisturiser smile.gif
*smp*
all I can suggest is stay away from any products with Sodium Laureth Sulphate or Propylene Glycol in it (and unfortunately that just about everything - especially Johnsons products I'm afraid Vixen). My eyes have recently been opened to these sort of chemicals, and since eradicating them from my bathroom my skin and hair is a lot better...if you are unsure do a google search on these chemicals and you'll see why I'm concerned! mad.gif Still cannot believe so many companies put these harmful chemicals into their products..then we put them on our skin!!!! dry.gif
mel
its true smp971, there are loads of bad things in beauty prods. after working in pharmacy and seeing it all....its bad! if you wand inexpensive chemical free products, Natural Instinct are the way to go... they have everything including laundry and other cleaning products.

and kandii, no fake nails are good for your natural nail but if you are as rough with your hands as i am, acrylic all the way! biggrin.gif
missvixen
aww but i love my johnsons stuff sad.gif

...stupid chemicals mad.gif
*smp*
evil cancer causing chemicals mad.gif

just something to make yourself aware of I think...and its scary how many products have this crap in them....go natural I say...its been working for thousands of years and has to be bettter than man made crapola huh.gif
miney
i use soap and shampoo. that give ya a good enough description?? and wen i do my hair i use gel!!

biggrin.gif
missvixen
i wear abit of make up, like foundation, mascara, a little bit of eyeshadow and eyeliner, and lipgloss (i love my lipgloss, but i ran out recently)....i dont like lots of make up ithink it looks crap....the less the better

i hate blush, i think it looks unnatural, and most ppl cant put it on properly and look stupid

ooo what is a good, safe brand of lip gloss???.....i dont like sticky ones or ones that stay on for 10 secs....i dont want a tinted one etha
a good quality, long lasting, glossy one
can any one help???
*smp*
thank Jebus you use something to get rid of the 'manly' odour wink.gif
miney
yeah stuff that ya put on ya lips that tastes like strawberry's lmfao there ya go wink.gif
missvixen
hmm um thanks that was a real help miney tongue.gif

i dont mind flavors, but not sickly ones
miney

Well the super best lipgloss you can ever get is BLISTEX! There are like 15 different types for all different purposes but i think the best one is blistex in a tub, its called 'Blistex lip conditioner', its not sticky at all, its not tinted and it keeps your lips mositurised for ages, its glossy lookin too, and its easy to pick out form all the other blistex's because its the only one in a tub, the others are in tubes. Bilstex also comes in many different falvours for your enjoyment! haha, can you tell i love it?? lol
Enjoy the Blistex experience vixen biggrin.gif

missvixen
cheers babe

will have to get some

um where do i get it from???
~Em~
Blistex: any chemist and most super markets.

If your after a nice gloss lip glossy, a relly shiny one, you can't go past the body shop IMO wink.gif
missvixen
ooo friends have that, it is good, will prob get some

cheers hun
sally
I reckon that for your skin and general well being fresh juice is the way to go! We just got this wicked juicer that you can pretty much put anything in and not get any pulp. I have a juice everyday and it makes things so much easier to do, like getting up early-you dont feel like your the walking dead and you can just get up and do stuff, it also gives you heaps of energy for the day. highly recommended ! smile.gif
missvixen
mmm i want a juicer, yum

...i got some lip gloss 2 day boys and girls. ChapStick overnight treatment.........is this ok smp?
its say that it will moisturise and make my lips look younger woohoo
i only brought it cos it said 'treatment' on it
it doesnt taste real good, but it feels good on my lips. its not glossy but it is clear........next time i think i will just use vasoline....(why didnt i think of that before hmmm)

a good face mask is egg btw ppl.
use the egg yolk for dry skin and the white for oily skin (i think thats the right way round).....a friend recomends it and she swares by it
sally
well done on the lip gloss!

I dunno how much i wanna smear egg all over my face but gotta try everything once i guess! The Body Shop has a really good masks too, i use one called Basil purifying mask. Its really good, makes your skin sliky
missvixen
ooo i will try it sometime, cheers for the tip

yea i have been a bit reluctant to use egg to but she says it works.....maybe i would do it drunk tongue.gif ....destroy my skin while i improve it lol
sally
hey why not its a win win situation, just remember to wash it off again, you dont wanna be waking up with that on your face, could lead to all sorts of scary thoughts........ :S

hahaha
missvixen
LMFAO!!! thanks for the tip, that is so something i would do lol

*imagines self stumbelin round looking like an omlet* smile.gif
mel
blistex and chapstick contain petrolium base which actually dry your lips out, thats why you get addicted to them! if you want a lipgloss, use QV lipgloss which is clear or try a Jurlique or any other natural beeswax one. smile.gif
sally
oh my god im so devistated to here that Blistex is bad! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! thanks for the warning though
mel
well miss vixen better not use vasoline on her lips either... that IS petrolium jelly.
another product you may have heard of an can use for anythig, including on the lips is paw paw ointment... in a red tub or tube, from pharmacies and found either in the baby or first aid section smile.gif im full of useless info!

considering i was a clinique counter manager at a pharmacy until a month ago, i dont push clinique too much!
eskimopie
Thanks for the tip mel, Im addicted to chapstick, thought it was better than vasoline. I'll try jurlique next time.

Can anyone recomend some good hair products to protect from heat and good for styling? Ive been growing my hair and have just bought a straightener. I used to use gel/wax but looking to try something new.
missvixen
sad.gif im never gonna be able to get a good lip gloss dry.gif

why do they have to tease me with bad ones, no fair sad.gif

so basically wat u r saying mel is dont buy any popular lipglosses or anyones that look pretty? unsure.gif

i have reasonably straight hair eskimopie, but when i do straighten it i just spray a bit of hair spray on it......... i rekon this would be bad too huh....... i hate bad chemicals
sally
A good hair straightening blam that i use is Redken 05 Straight, its pretty good, theres also this other stuff by Redken that is great if you are using a hot hair straightner, i cant remember what its called but its a spray and is in a brown spray bottle, its really really good, gives you that hair dresser hair look and feel smile.gif
missvixen
im looking to get a hair straightna. i dont know much about them (neva ownd 1 just use friends), what would be a cheep 1 that is good quality?
spiltek
I used moisturiser once!!
missvixen
um ok, were u talking about using moisturiser as a hair straightner or im general...cos if u used it as a hair straightner well ummmm wacko.gif

i love moisturinser, but im a little scared to tell u all wot i use incase u tell me its bad for me sad.gif

ps is sorbolene ok, fragrance free..?
if not i dont own it! hehe

This post has been edited by missvixen: Aug 11 2005, 06:13 PM

miney

spiltek

missvixen

*smp*
I have just discovered the BEST mascara for you gals out there who have had a gutful of mascaras that end up halfway down your face after a few hours....

Revlon Colourstay Overtime Lash Tint....probably full of crap chemicals that go against my nature loving instincts, but it works...I put some on on Tuesday evening...I shower morning and night and I have not had to re-apply since then...serious.....bloody brilliant!!! I'll NEVER change back!!! smile.gif
missvixen
lol sounds good....hmmm a tint, what a good idea

i have never had a problem with mascara, even if i cry....i have never had those stupid black lines down my face, and i dont buy water proof
it sticks really good to my lashes and lasts a long time, but it never makes them look much longer or runs...hmmm any one know why this is? mel?
spiltek

The binding agents used in all mascara are exactly the same its just the longer lasting has more binder in it. The environment (climate, humidty) also plays a large part in how the binding agents set. Hope this helps..
missvixen
spiltek u moisturise, exfoliate, and know about mascara....something u not telling us?

jj

cheers babe
spiltek
hahah tell ya the truth missvixen i have no idea wat i was talkin bout with the last post.... honest
missvixen
lol sure u didnt laugh.gif
*smp*
spiltek is a woman....she lied when she joined up!!!

This tint don't help to make my eyelashes look any longer (I don't think any mascaras do really)...just darker...and me being a blondey (don't judge by my contact card photo) I need darker lashes ha ha ha...this stuff rocks!!!!
spiltek
lol smp971 far from it believe me tongue.gif
missvixen
the tips of ur eyelashes r lighter than the rest, so using mascara will darken the tips and give the illusion that ur eyelashes are longer
*smp*
that pic in ya contact card is ya boyfriend...we're onto you bucko tongue.gif
missvixen
lmao......i think ur onto something shaz, spiltek ur so busted!

Thanks for the redkin tip Sally. Probably more than I wanted to spend, but if it's a really good product I wont mind. Might go to price attack and check them out.

As for the straightener missvixen, I was told to make sure it is ceramic plates and teflon coated. I got the Remington slimline for $80 at target. They also have a wet to dry for a little more. The good thing about this one is it heats up in 30 seconds and it is brilliant.

~Em~
When it comes to hair straighteners, its worth spending that little bit extra to ensure you are getting a good quality straightener that isn't going to damage your hair (well, no more than necessary!)

Definately get one with ceramic plates, thats for sure!

IMO, the best on the market at the moment are GHD, and silver bullet.

The silver bullet is slightly chepaer than the GHD, and they are both generally around the $250 mark, unless you find them on special...

If you go to Hairhouse warehouse at TTP.... they have some great specials here and there. And i"m pretty sure they are the cheapest around too.

Last time I was there, you could get a silver bullet with a bonus hairdryer for a smidge under $200.

I highly recommend Claudia at Hairhouse warehouse for getting cuts/colours etc... she is absolutely brilliant!
nickdub
my wife uses and recommends mukti products on her clients, all natural. if anyone wants any information on them, pm me, and i shall get carlie to call you about them.

Kandii is right above....in my opinion GHD are the VERY BEST straighteners money can buy (and I have very curly hair naturally so I know my straighteners believe me), and like anything you have to pay big dollar$ for the best, but on my old mate ebay they sell for about $180. Better than $280+ retail and they are the genuine article....love my GHD!!!! Love Ebay!!! tongue.gif

One question I do have.... I need a balancing moisturiser for my face. I have an oily tzone, but dry everywhere else, and I can't seem to find a suitable moisturiser. For about the last 6 months, I have constantly had blemishes/pimples on me chin and forehead... and no matter what I do, I just can't get rid of them!!!

Can anyone help????
sally
thanks Kandii, if i find colour that last longer ill let you know too.

I use this moisturiser form tha body shop called Jojoba daily hydrating moisture cream, its really really good for oily skin and generally good from dry skin. but if you have really dry skin they have heaps of other hydrating creams in there too so have a look around smile.gif

Oh yeah and Cetephil is also really good for unbalanced skin and really good and keeping the blemishes away

Hey babe...me too with the T-zone and blemishes...I have this book that tells me that washing your face with a benzol peroxide wash and using a moisturiser that has Glycolic acid in it helps...I've found one called Neo Strata that is working really well...my skin is looking better lately than ever before...glycolic acid also helps with skin discolouration too which is an added bonus (damn you Aussie sun dry.gif )
Oldskoolie
Hair - GHD are by far the best hair straightners around these days. And available in PINK!!!! What makes them so good is that they create negetively charged ions where most other brands (ceramic or not) produce positively charged ions which in the long term damage the hair.

An alternative is chemical straighting. Goldwell have a product called 'Straight and shine' which does exactly that. Straight and Shine actually breaks the bond within the hair and resets it creating straight hair. The process costs on average anywhere between $500 and $1000 and the results are worth every cent, provided you care for it as recommended. This process is not available on all types of hair, ie afro american, wirey woggy hair etc. I have seen the results and highly recommend, but it does grow out.

Facial products - Dermalogica all the way!!!! There is no point in me spouting off actual Dermalogica product names as everyone's skin is different, and will require different products. The best thing if you are iterested is to go in and ask for a Dermalogica Face Mapping. Its free, and you recieve small samples of the products required for your daily regime.

Make up - Napoleon is the way to go.

Sydney based make-up manufacturer Napoleon Perdis has created a brand like no other. For example, you can use eye shadow colour as a lip colour just by mixing the colours differently. And mixing the colours with the bases yourself minimizes wastage. The range of colours is huge. I cant explain this product well enough myself, but from what i have seen of it so far... It is truley amazing. Napoleon apears to be an expensive product, but when you look at how long it lasts it really isnt expensive at all. Check out www.napoleoncosmetics.com for more info.

Trust me, all this info comes form a good source.

HI!
Its Marcia here... You have combination skin, quite normal. There are definetely products especially made for you. I have the same condition and have been using a really good moisturising system on daily basis. Once a fortnight you may also want to indulge in a scrub and a mask. What I do is use a mineral masque on the t-Zone to draw out inpurities and then a hydrating mask on my cheek area.
Come and see me and I'll give you a facial and then you can feel your skin afterwards.
I sent you my private e-mail address and mobile to your e-mail account.
Cheers

Marcia

OK KIRSTY'S NEW FAV PRODUCT: Johnsons 'Holiday Skin' Moisturiser
body lotion with a tiny amount of tan in it

...looks a little yellow on day 2, but by 4 or 5 it looks wonderful biggrin.gif
even with shaving/exfoliating it doesnt wear away too much...now i use it every 2 or 3 days, but may change to 4 or 5 cause it keeps getting darker everytime u use it.

as with all tan products, exfoliate b4 hand and make sure you dont get it over the really dry patches of skin (or you end up with strange looking brown patches)

Its called Organic Care, and u can get it in any good supermarket smile.gif

Agreed... Blistex is THE BEST!! I take my tub everywhere with me! It is the NUMBER 1 item in my rave bag before anything else!

As for hair products, i have to say i cant go past PPS!. I use their shampoos, conditioners and especially their mosituriser everytime i wash my hair.

The moisturiser is so good, by itself or with anti-frizz, i let my horridly wavey hair dry naturally and with this stuff it turns out gorgeous, no blow-drying requried for sexy Kylie Minogue waves!

Agreed... Blistex is THE BEST!! I take my tub everywhere with me! It is the NUMBER 1 item in my rave bag before anything else!

Blistex contains phenol as most of the lip balms do, which actually dries out your lips, requiring you to reapply most often.

Try and look for one without lanolin and phenol, such as lipsed (in the tube only, the stick contains lanolin). And steer away from Vaseline, as someone else mentioned, as not only is it a petroleum by-product, but it is occlusive (so is Sorbolene cream) which whilst it traps moisture in, will also remain on the skin long after you think it has gone, and not let further moisture in. Just try having a spray tan done after having applied baby oil or sorbelene!

As for the Jurlique lip balm, love Jurlique but not loving the lip balm - horrible!

The Lucas pawpaw that some one mentioned ages ago is fantastic, cheap and the pawpaw actually contains enzymes that exfoliate your lips so you don't have to scruff them yourself. I use it on every makeup I do and convert most clients to it.

And.... if you get it from priceline, its under $6 a bottle smile.gif

From other shops its about $7.

Get it girls, it rocks!

Been using it for about 3 weeks now & it seems to be making a difference - got complimented on the colour of my legs when I wore a skirt to work the other day, so it's having an effect! And it looks totally natural too - not like the fake tans I saw at the 36'ers game last night laugh.gif

Have you tried Target?? When it first came out, I tried Big W, Priceline, K-Mart & a million supermarkets but they were all sold out. Finally found it at Target smile.gif Will definitely grab a couple extra & bring them on Sunday for you Miss K if I find some this weekend!

The David Jones brand fake tan (in a bright orange & yellow pump container) is also very good - no yucky orange bits!

Can anyone recommend a good mascara? I'm bored with mine - I want super-fat, long lashes that don't run when you're out dancing!!

a good mascara, and my fave at the moment is Revlon Colourstay lash tint....it doesn't make your lashes look any longer or fatter than any other mascara will, but I only apply it every couple of days (and I have two showers per day), so l guarantee it will not run....great stuff...like having your lashes tinted wthout the hassle!!! tongue.gif

Here's one for the guys out there, 'DEODARANT' wink.gif ...............Shit, the amount of times I am talking/dancing near someone and almost upchuck at the smell.

Alright, you may be hot/sweaty/on gear or whatever which makes the problem worse. but if you can spend the money on party enhancments! you can spend the money on a descent deodarant huh.gif

Lab series for men from aramis, $50 odd bucks, No scent, lasts for ages and is outstanding. (have been totally off tap dancing my arse off for hours, and could wear the same shirt the next day ohmy.gif,"if I wanted"......because it doesn't SMELL of B.O.).

Ok that's a fucken lot to pay for a deodarant stick, but look at it as an investment in social standings smile.gif

HEFTYr

Posted by: KandiRaver Nov 21 2005, 09:17 AM

Totally agreed. I hate it when guys come over and dance next to you and reak of BO. The worst thing is you then have to leave the fantastic spot you found and find another one on the dance floor... then hope the guy doesnt take it as an invitation to follow you!! This may not be a problem for you guys, but i know it has happened to me many-a-time and i'm sure to many other chickies out there too.

yeah like... i use roll on deodorant AND spray on stuff... cos i think that spray on stuff when i mixes with BO turns into some funky concoction that i'd rather leave for the middle of nowhere...

So i 'rollon' and then get dressed and then i 'sprayon' and then im a happy chooken all night!!!

BOdorant is SOOOO not the in stench at the moment, AND its not just blokes either, ive stood next to many a stenchy gal when im out, or even not out just around...

but for guys here's also a good tip, dont spray under your arms so much, use soap more because the chemicals in sprays react with your skin AND your sweat and thats when you STINK if you dont deodorise, trust me we did this as an experiment, the first week we couldnt stand to go near him, the second week we couldnt smell a thing...

but when your out, go the LYNX: Africa boys... omgosh that gets me going!!!!!! ohmy.gif laugh.gif
I mean... yeah it smells kinda nice... tongue.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

happy to oblige... tourette's attacks are a special talent I've picked up and it doesn't take me too much to launch into one.. smelly people need to be told and there is no better way to get thru to a sweaty, smelly raver that they stink than to let loose with the profanity!

michr

Posted by: HEFTY Nov 21 2005, 10:22 AM

Thats why I use a good quality deodarant, no aluminium, no scent, hardly sweat under the arms, even in the most extreme conditions. All of my friends have tried it (even chicks) and where all totally amazed at the difference between a cheap supermarket brand, and a quality one. It also lasts up to 3 times longer, I have had my deo stick for at least 4 months now and still have 1/3 left.
OH, and here's another tip.......... get a deodarant with no scent so it won't compete your cologne smile.gif

HEFTYr

Posted by: -Bek- Nov 21 2005, 10:24 AM

We shudnt just be blaming the blokes for the BO problem.. I've bumped into some nasty smelling chix at raves.. my nose is ultra sensitive to that sorta crap n i throw up almost everytime i smell it.. admittedly guys are the worst offenders thou.. there is no excuse for offending people like that.. if your that bloody broke then buy the el-cheapo stuff from the supermarket.. take it with u.. n apply every couple of hours.. dont ruin everyone who dances next to you's nite.. we wanna party too.. not spend half the nite in the bathroom gaging from your smell smile.gif

*not pointing the finger @ anyone.. so dont take offense smile.gif

-Bek-r

Posted by: mich Nov 21 2005, 10:33 AM

i found exfoliating everyday and applying the stuff every 2nd day (for a week) builds it up a bit...
then week 2 keep exfoliating everyday but apply the moisturiser everyday too

not sure why but when i first got it i did find it went a little yellow (every 2nd day stopped that happening) now i use everyday and my legs do look quite a bit darker & def. natural!!

for blonde hair i'd recommend john frieda sheer blonde shampoo and conditioner. ive tried so many different ones and its works great to stop the brassiness and keeps hair shiny and silky. not too badly priced about $15 a bottle. they also have a brunette and redhead range too which are probably just as good.

for a good body moisturiser i like the St Ives range, i get real dry skin especially in winter and the extra dry 24hr moisturiser works great. about $6 a bottle and has lasted me a year.

i have really dry legs at the moment and they are now massivley burised up coz of my constant scratching, but i'm allergic to fragrences.. so i'm trying to find something that will moisturise without irritating...

CELESTE: Cetaphil... available from the chemist. Its not expensive at all... and can be used on the face or body.

Its a fragrance free moisturiser for dry/sensitive/problem skin. I've been using it as my face moisturiser for about 6 months, and I'm still on the same bottle, which cost me $10.

They have a massive range of products, including face & body washes etc...

Well worth trying for only $10 smile.gif

snap on all of these recommendations babe....

MAC make the best lip glosses, they are generally $30 but worth it as they actually stay on longer than five minutes!!! All of their products are good actually.

Redken C.A.T. is like a first aid kit for my totally abused hair....highly recommend this product for anyone that colours their hair wink.gif

Loreal Pure Zone....good stuff!!!

....not so sure about that holiday skin though....good moisturiser, but I haven't seen a difference in my skin tone at all, but then I'm naturally more tanned than most people so maybe it won't work for me anyways....

What you need is still a bronzer but the lighter shades that gets used as highlighters. For lack of another specific example, have a look at the nutrimetics one at my house, it has two colours in the compact, the lighter shade is perfect for fair skin. Then you know what shades to look for in the shops...

My fave product at the moment is Clearisil Ultra Deep Pore Scrub. (the one that says "clearer skin in just 3 days)

As I have problem skin which is dry and sensitive, I've never been able to use clearisil, as it was too harsh on my skin. But now this new 'ultra' range they have is not harsh, not drying... and I've noticed the difference alright!!

Even tho it is a scrub, its gentle enough to use all day. Its awesome, I'd definitely recommend this for anyone who has a problem with breakouts smile.gif

I use this mascara.
It is by Rimmel (if it is the one i am thinking of)
I love it.
Not only does it make your lashs thicker and longer but the little plastic comb thingy keeps each lash seperated.

My all time favourite foundation is Revlon Colourstay.

It took me a while to find the best foundation for me but when i found this it was like a miracle!

It stays on all day and has great coverage for all your spots and marks you dont want anyone to see.

Face of australia used to make my favourite concealer in liquid form then they discontinued it to a stick form which is nowhere near as good.

Now i need to search for a new one sad.gif

Any suggestions?

Sever acne scaring will definatly have to be lasered...but if you only have minor scaring, i think Retin A cream is what the dermatologists prescribe.

don't quote me on that, i'm not 100% sure, but it sounds right.

i suggest you see APSA (Adelaide Plastic Surgery Associates)

if you want contact details, PM me, but the doctor i see will try and stear you away from laser as it's really expensive... she is fantastic! Highly Recommended.

of course it depends how sever the scaring is. mine are only little white spots.. kinda look like water droplets.

I reckon you should get Armani Acqua Di Gio, Givenchy Homme Blue label, Hugo Boss (its got a sweet smell but I dont know the name), Armani Black, and any by Davidoff. Go to all the fragrance places and have a sniff. I'll buy a girl a perfume depending on her character/personality.

i reckon Hugo Boss, or Cool Water......they are both great smelling ones....hmmmmm tongue.gif

ive just started using that johnsons holiday skin about 4 days ago and its actually working quite well. i was a bit skeptical cos ive heard some ppl say its not that good. only thing i noticed is its brought back my summer tan lines!!! i thought they had faded during winter...
KandiRaver
lol...coz i'm so white, when i used it i went so dark so quickly... so i use it only every second day... that way it's just a nice glow instead of a "tanned look"

i waxed my chest once and that was one of the most painful experiences of my life. i also pulled them out with tweezers once - that was even worse, but once youve done half you cant really stop (but at least i didnt pluck half of my face and shave the other half for the next 6 weeks like someone we all know and love laugh.gif) no way id inflict that sort of pain on my testiculars...

I know a few guys that get waxed/wax themselves... and they keep on doing it so it can't be that bad!!!!

Went to get a haircut today and going for a slightly different style

Bought some gel from there made in Germany by Goldwell called Wild (top of the line hairdressers gel) for $19.50. You need shit all in your hair and it does a perfect job. It definately beats all the brands you buy in a Supermarket.

The brand is advertised in FHM etc. The logo has a little red square next to the wording of the logo. Most guys would have seen the logo around.

Recommended if you're willing to spend close to $20 on hair gel though.

tip: never buy supermarket brands of styling products - unless thats all you can afford.....they are crap in comparison to the products hairdressers use and recommend, and you generally have to use twice as much so in the end you won't save money anyway....same goes for shampoo wink.gif

on that note - Price Attack in the mall have litres of Joico K-Pak shampoo and conditioner for $20 (usually around $40 - $50 for a litre). This is seriously one of the best quality shampoos in my opinion, and I will buy it purely for the smell of the product wink.gif mmmm, fruit salad and bananas tongue.gif

Only gel from a supermarket that's ever worked good for me is Organic Care, it's about $2.80 a bottle, it's an Aussie brand and beats those other brands like Fructis and shit, which are 4 times the prices.

Anyway I'm happy with this Goldwell stuff, it has a honey scent to it as well, yummo!

I've just become a major fan of Napoletan make up!! the stuff rocks.. and it didn't irritate my sensitive face.. i don't acutally know if it's hypo-allergenic or not, but i'm happy with it.

OK, I have an absolutely awesome product!! Some of you may know if it, and some may not...

But it's called "Bio-Oil"

You can buy it from any good chemist...It's about $20 for 60 ml...But it's oil, so you get very good value for your money as you only need a tiny bit of it as it spreads so far!

It comes in an orange little cylinder type bottle with a white lid and it's awesome!!

It helps for scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, ageing skin and dehydrated skin...

As alot of you know, I'm always in the wars laugh.gif And I have been using this for over a year now...Especially on graises and cuts, anything that would normally scar and the results are awesome!

I've just started using it on my latest injury and am seeing results already...

And I have been using it on stretch marks and broken veins of mine for a year as well, and it does help! It makes them ALOT less noticeable!

Give it a try smile.gif

David Jones own label fake tan is awesome! The Holiday skin type products don't really get my skin dark enough, but DJs stuff is great - no streaks, patches or orange bits!

Shower gel - go to a place like Auroma at Glenelg & get yourself some unscented shower gel. Last time I bought it, it was $34 for 5 litres - which has lasted us for nearly a year! It's great for sensitive skin & you can add your own oils etc if you want. Lime & lemongrass is my favourite combo & great for my oily skin smile.gif

Body scrub - you can't go past brown sugar crystals & coffee grounds mixed together with a little oil (macadamia is good, or you can use liquid glycerin) Smells yummy, the caffeine stimulates blood flow & it's dirt cheap!

MOR body butter in Pomegranate rocks - only problem is it smells so delicious I wanna eat it smile.gif

Yeah it may look horrible, but you shouldn't be so mean! alot of girls pile on the foundation maybe because they have scars or acne, which they believe looks alot worse then an overdone face!

Most girls know how to apply make up to look natural, so you have to think that those who use a bit to much are probably trying to cover something!

I would like a shampoo and condtioner or serum that makes my hair nice and shiny smile.gif

I have a serum, but it's pretty heavy and doubles as a styler too. While this could be good and cost saving it doesn't appeal to me.

I want something light but that does the trick.

Most days these days, and even most times when I go out i don't STYLE my hair, it's all pretty natural which is why i want a serum that will just give the shine to my hair. If I want my hair styled, I can do that my own.

Or a shampoo and conditioner that does the same thing would be worth me trying I reckon. smile.gif

Well.. i said i was going to go to Napolean to get my make up done for anthems.. NOT ANY MORE!!!

Not only was the girl who served me and took my appointment completley rude.. (coz pushing in chairs and whipping down benches is soooo much more important) but apparently hey have raised their Make-Over price from $60 to $80!! Yeah.. 30% increase.. THAT'S REASONABLE!

So i've decided to go to The Body Shop! It's only $25 and even tho you can't actually redeem that for make up i figured i'd give 'em a chance!

Has anyone else been there recently to have make up done? i've only been a couple of times.. and that was years ago when they did make-overs for free! haha.

well, being pregnant you should have that "morning glow"! smile.gif who need's make up when they have that!?!
{Bunny}
laugh.gif There's alot more to looking good than glowing.

Along with pregnancy comes the breakouts, not being able to dye your hair, do your nails. Basically anything that has a chemical gas/fume/smell to it, I can't participate in.

Just little things that I used to do to perk myself up when I was feeling a bit bored or down about my appearance.
Elektro Kitten
hair colour shouldn't be an issue. I'd suggest maybe dying your hair back to its natural colour so you don't have mega mega regrowth lol regrowth sucks... There are natural types of colourings out there too, and chemical free ones. Check out organic places online or maybe at the markets. Should be able to find something smile.gif

Is it better to go with the grey or just dye it black?? I'm kinda deciding what route I should take in regards to my hair finally showing its age. I found my first semi-grey hair today and plucked it from my head **ouchies**

Hair colour IS an issue for me. I've been reading and reading about it. While there is mixed opinions out there, and people saying that they dyed their hair while pregnant and came out fine, there's also people out there that have dyed their hair and mis-carried. While there is no PROOF that this is all linked it's still something to be cautious about IMO

I have considered getting a natural hair dye, but my mum uses them and they don't seem to look very good in my opinion.

Ace suggested that I dye my hair darker, because I have been dying it blonde for a while. He thought that a darker dye would have less harmful chemicals in it. While he is right, because darker dyes wouldn't have as much if any peroxide in them, they can still be harmful.

And I think the chemical free ones wouldn't do what I wanted. I need the freaking chemicals to be blonder laugh.gif

I'm still unsure of what I wnt to do. But since finding out that I was pregnant I have done everything else right, I don't want to stuff that up now and risk mis-carrying. That would break my heart.

At the end of the day it's all personal choice, some pregnant chose to be IMO selfish and do whatever they like without thinking about the out come, some don't.

I think what I WILL definitely do is wait another few months until I'm out of my first 20 weeks, and then MAYBE dye my hair.

I'm still only 8 weeks, almost 9, so I don't want to put my little fetus at risk.

I'm trying to find out if Toning my hair would be anywhere near the same as dying, but can't seem to find any information on it.
KandiRaver
Might be a good idea to actually see a hairdresser and talk to them about it! it was my understanding that there was a certain time during the pregnancy when you were actually able to die your hair!?!
{Bunny}
Not all that keen on going to see a hairdresser about it really, I would rather see a doctor. But again, both opinions are one or the other, fine or cautious. So again I don't think it would help me much.

The time frame to wait is from 12 - 20 weeks. Some say after the first trimester (12 weeks) others say to wait until you're after 20 weeks. Which is what I'll be doing.

Just have to put up with sh*t hair until then. Good thing I don't go anywhere laugh.gif

Just brought a new hairstraightner (my other one died). It's a Remington Nano Gold. It cost $100 and came with a carry bag, hot mat, comb and hair clips.. i'm quite impressed.. i used it the other night and was very very impressed.

It has a digital temp setting and my old straightner wouldn't do anything uless it was set on 200 degrees but this new one was set at 170 and i might even drop it down to 150!

The reason i brought it was because i was given an old straightner from a friend, also a Remingnton) and it lasted ages, so i'm assuming (hoping) that this one also has a long life.

Yer, you can get diet cordial. Has little to no sugar but still has taste. Got some by accident once.

KittiChik
There is some diet cordials that aren't too bad... umm fruit of the forest I think its called... or apple and raspberry
Elektro Kitten
Watch out for artificial sugar like zylotol etc... - they may be lighter in kj's but they also make you
1) dehydrate
2) make you hungrier

So if you have a diet drink you'll want to follow it with a bowl of chips after

same goes for diet softdrinks.

ok i have a question. I have been wondering about moisturisers (sp) for my face. I want to prevent wrinklers but am only 26 and don't know what i should be using. Every time i look its either to repair wrinkled skin or for young faces. Is there anything i should use, or just normal moisturisers will do
KandiRaver
I was under the impression that in your early 20's you use a moistursier with SPF/sunscreen.. late 20's to 30's you use an anti-wrinckle cream then in your 40's onwards use a mosturise designed for mature skin..

is that right!?!

To help prevent wrinkles don't Olay have a mosturiser designed to "fight the 7 signes of ageing"? is that what you would be after?

This post has been edited by KandiRaver: Aug 8 2007, 01:28 PM
froggy
yeah i thought so but not sure if i should use that yet
{Bunny}
It doesn't matter what age you start using moisturisers/age fighting creams really.

It just makes more sense to use certain ones at certain ages.

I have been using an AVON one that moisturisers and repairs certain signs of aging since I was 18 and I reckon my skin looks pretty swell smile.gif

Don't forget that sun and laughter and other things cause wrinkles and drying out of skin etc not just aging smile.gif

You might find that you have to try a few brands until you find the one that works best for you. I did.

a repairing moisturiser is fine smile.gif prevention is the key after all!

If you aren't sure what to use, perhaps go and speak to some different counter ladies? I'd recommend dermatoliga, jurlique, clinique and aveda.

this doesn't mean you need to buy THEIR products, but see what advice they can offer smile.gif
Elektro Kitten
Use something with SPF is all i can say. That is the most important thing. Sun is a killer, especially in Australia. And like Em said, go see someone; don't necessarily buy their product, but get them to tell you about your skin type, so you know what type of range to go for

The ladies behind the counters are there to sell THEIR products, so all advice will be 100% biased towards their sales target. If you went to different counters they'll give you the same advice in general terms (oily, dry etc) and then proceed to give you the mumbo jumbo about their products will help best...

Women in Europe, france in particular, start using anti-wrinkle creams at 20. Considering the sun is much harsher and we spend a lot of time out on the sun, it makes sense for women to start using anti wrinkle stuff in their early twenties. If you have dry skin then you should start very early.

If you dont have damage, then repair creams are not necessary, anti wrinkle is a better option. Moisturisers with spf are generally too oily, good if you have dry skin, not so good for everyone else. I would prefer a foundation with spf, then you can remove it as soon as you get home!!

two questions:

1. Where is the best place (and I dont mean on your body) to get waxed? For a guy that is - other than Essential Beauty?

2. What should I put on my skin? Last time I got waxed I broke out in a rash which didnt look that good with a tank top!
groover
1. why dont you try a place that is specific for guys grooming- like 'destination for men', not sure if they do waxing but its worth a ring. thet're on unley road.

2. mate you got a rash coz the person doing the waxing had poor hygine. either the wax had bits from other people, through the double dipping of the spatula into the wax. or she didnt clean your skin properly when she started.

if your skin gets bumpy, but its not a rash, get some aloe vera gel that has been put in the fridge overnight and you'll get the swelling down.

Best moisturiser ever (particularly if you spend a bit of time outdoors, like I do) is Ego Sun Sense Daily Face matt formula. It's SPF 30+ & is excellent for oily skin (other sunscreen tends to leave my skin a bit greasy) Even better, it's only about $9.00 a tube from Priceline - it doesn't attract GST as it's classed as sunscreen, not make-up!

Couldn't find either of these when I went looking for sunscreen products sad.gif

So I got Face of Australia SUN, Non greasy sunscreen. SPF 30+. Used it today, was awesome, and definitely is NON greasy! Recomend this one!

thats fair enough, however if u decide to go with the smokey look i can help you out with the eye shadow.

Celeste if you don't want anything too harsh maybe opt for light grey/silver smokey look?

If the dress is really metallic I wouldn't opt for a metallicy looking eyeshadow.

or you could maybe try natural eyeshadow with deep eyeliner and heaps of mascara.. and then maybe a touch of colour in lipgloss??

Both ideas are good. Experiment with them, put the dress on, see which looks best?

Personally I would go a natural eye look and the colour in the lips.

Speak for yourself there Celeste tongue.gif I don't wanna feel like I'm sleepin' with a 12 year old boy blink.gif

But I know guys who think the same thing about us girls and being hairless down there. So it's all personal preference at the end of the day.

I just like my men maintained or not. I'm actually not all that bothered. Showers are a must though laugh.gif

I'm loving Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Firming Lotion.

Can't tell if it's firming my skin yet, but it's definitely helping with my stretch marks.

Have only been using it for a coupe of days and I can already see a difference!!

Is there a particular Swarzkopf that you use?
Kez
i use either silk results... or the one for coloured hair... i particularly like it because my hair is so thick and it manages to untangle it smile.gif

Well I gave it a go.

For me, it washes great! De-tangles so I can continue not to brush my hair...But it leaves my hair feeling like it hasn't rinsed out properly and it feels like sh*t and gross, and knots easily.

I've tried stuffing around with different amount of amounts, lathering time etc But to no success.

Soooo I'm back to using my expensive Blonde shampoo on my Brunette hair laugh.gif

Not bothered, I'm bored of Brunette already anyway, so hopefully it'll fade quicker and I can re-dye it blonde.
Kez
don't they have one of those blondes ones for brunette and red heads??? if its the andrew collinge one i'm thinking of then i'm pretty sure that they do.
KandiRaver
John Frida has shampoos and conditioners designed for blonde / brunette and red heads...

I've gone back to PPS can't remember what one it is, but it's Classic FX in the bottles with the purple lid.. they are great, love them!! Not to expensive either. I've also invested in PPS Hair Moisturiser Classic FX and i put that on my wet hair and then blowdry it and it's so soft and silky, and doesn't feel weighted down with product.
Sang
I'm thinking of shaving my head or growing it long. What do you reckon??

I use John Frida, who also does the Red, Brunette thing.

But I'm going to go back blonde pretty sson, so I don't wanna waste my money on brunette shampoo

I've got the L'Oreal one at home, but I don't really like it. It tends to "cake" quite a bit & just doesn't feel very nice. I'm used to liquid foundation - I've tried loads of others, but I keep coming back to Revlon Colourstay!!

Dermalogica have a liquid mineral foundation that I tried at one of their seminars which seems quite nice, but I haven't gotten around to actually buying it yet! Laura Mercier makeup is really nice - I don't actually own any, but went to a make-up class for her stuff ages ago. I'm pretty sure there's a mineral foundation in her range - maybe pop in to DJs for a consultation??
{Bunny}
Any of you ladies out there know a good cream, treatment or remedy for varicose/spider veins?

wow i love anything loreal. I find revlon cakes more than any other brand! Mineral is overrated... but is good for a lighter feel cover.

clinique isn't good for sensitive skin at all.... well their skin care isn't anyway. WAY too higher alcohol content.

I don't have sensitive skin - but even my skin reacted to clinique.

same

Also, I tried mineral make up, so not for me.

At the moment I'm using nutrimetics for all my skin & body care, and inglot for my make up.

If anyone is interested in nutrimetics, I am now a consultant and can order anything you need smile.gif
KandiRaver
I'm not sure in regards to actual skincare, but make up wise a doctor told me clinique was good.. it's to expensive for me tho so i usually opted for Almay at that stage. My skin is back to normal now, i use Inglot make up.

Skincare wise i use either QV or specially selected neutrogena products as per my dermatologists recommendation.
alli500
what is inglot like for make up? I have see it around but am yet to try it..
KandiRaver
it is awesome! i love it!! their eyeshadow's are amazing! especially their lose powder ones.. they have such a huge range of colours and great price too.
~Em~
inglot is brilliant... they have the best range of colours in everything, and their eye colours are also very high in pigment so the colour you see is the colour you'll get on your face.

Its pretty reasonably priced too I thought

I bought:

under foundation base (primer)
liquid foundation
5 eyeshadows & case
foundation brush
eyeshadow brush

all for $162!!
{Bunny}
Might have to check out this Inglot. Where can I get it from?
Kez
i know there is one at west lakes, one at marion and one in town!
AnGeL^EyEs
there is also an inglot at TTP Lucy
{Bunny}
Bah, everywhere I'm NOT going in a while. Oh well.
Kez
im loving the nutrimetics goodies i got from emma last night.

i've never used their skin care products but even only using them for one day i love them... the moisturiser ROCKS!
