I'm with iinet on ADSL 1500/256 and my home phone line is with them also!

Have had 1 outage in 6 months for about 6-8 hours.. other than that has been like a dream...

The service costs... $90 per months for the ADSL and $30 for my phone line rental (which is the same as telstra but with lower call costs).

With the iiphone and iiADSL connected I get 80gig of data per month with allows me to download everything I could possibly want!

I would recommend them... so far, although I did pay the upfront fee so I didn't have to be on a CONTRACT which I think is a must with ADSL provider.

Just incase the service/preformance goes to shit!

Tell us about your connection,

Im with ozemail ADSL 1500/256. pay $100 a month but unlimited. Had an outage problem once also but only lasted 2 hrs...... Ozemail is owned by iinet also

Also is true unlimited not capped at all. D/l around 60 - 70 gig a month so does the job

Whats the go with No Contract Paul, cos I want to get ADSL, but don't want to be on the dodgy Plans that are out.

Either go with ozemail or iinet i reckon theyre the best by far wen it comes to no contracts. As long as u got a c/c u got no probs...

i've got 512k/128k ADSL with EscapeNet.
$70 a month, 50gb Downloads. i normally do 20gb - 30gb so its plenty for me.

was also with these guys when i had my ISDN 64k setup and have yet to have any majors probs with them. only prob was at my end when i had a dodgy line running to the modem, but once i reran it, its all good now.

Plan 512k ADSL Pro
Adsl usage is 4996Mb of 50000 Mb

It's Westnet all the way here. They're cheap, but not the cheapest. Where they do slaughter *EVERYONE* is in reliability and customer service. In the AC NEilson survey, Whingepool Broadband survery....they have ranked number 1 every single time without fail. They make the Node look like a bunch of rude animals (yet they are actually one of the better ones).

Yes, my company is an agent for Westnet, but after being an Operations Manager for an ISP/Telco, I know what a good ISP looks and smells like. Westnet are the only ISP we are happy to put our company name next to. When I sign someone up, I have total faith they will be looked after and will never have to get me to sort anything out for them.

And for those asking WTF is WestNet......they are one of the biggest ISP's in the country, but they don't advertise. They rely on a flawless reputation being spread by word of mouth!

yes but ist QUALITY pr0n

Here is a good broadband website. Check out what the forums to see what customers have to say about their ISP.

http://www.whirlpool.net.au/
also
http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/
broadband choice website to see what each ISP has to offer.

I reckon though if you have Bigpond Cable in your area for speeds up to 10 Mbps you cant go wrong for $65 per month.

You want to make your calls cheaper using your Broadband connection. Have you tried Voice over IP?
Here are a couple of sites to go

http://www.engin.com.au/public/index.asp
http://www.skype.com/
I havent used them but A mate uses engin & it is really good.
PaulHamon
Not a bad idea... i think davin uses engin... not a bad service smile.gif

I wan engin.. but I also want the $220 box that goes with it... so I can use my current cordless phone with it!

But will $25 per month rental + $220 how and then the $30 home phone line rental I'm having trouble make the numbers work..

Even with the cheap phone calls...

I seriosouly want ASDL2 and Adam (arg) is offering it in my area... for $60 with 40gig + 40gig on PIPE (and all that)...

Not sure what to do...

Yeah the upront cost for VOIP can negate the benefits.
ADSL 2 would be excellent. There are only 2 minor concerns with this. What standard will be adopted overall in Australia. My understanding is that ADSL 2 & ADSL 2+ are slightly different and you dont want to be prohibited from moving ISP's because you got stuck with the wrong standard. How far are you from your exchange. My only concern would be if your current ADSL is at the limit of the service area you may not get the advertised speeds. But if you are only 2 blocks away from your exchange then this would be sweet & I recomend going for it.
PaulHamon
I wasn't going to update me ADSL1 modem for another 12 months...
but it still takes it from 1.5 -> 8.0 which would be fine be me!

Yeah... not sure how far way from the exchange I am... Dav might know.. will ask him!
Davin
I'm a technology junkie and I love my internet toys. I've either had broadband at home or worked with 10mb and up connections at work for as long as I can remember.

But.....ADSL 2 doesn't even get me slightly excited. The slight desire for a totally useless speed increase over my 1.5mb, is overcome by an inside knowledge of the difficulties of delivering such massive amounts of bandwidth to so many users...and I know Adam internet. I'd rather have dialup that their broadband.

Forgetting how dodgy Adam, their illegal practices, and their server room are, I would wait and see how distance and speed relate to eachother in real world (with varying quality and age of copper around adelaide), and also see how they handle multiple users with such high speed connections.

The box is $150, and you can go on a $20 plan that includes $10 worth of international or mobile calls. When the fax service becomes commercially available (or if you just want a second voice line now), they are $25 for the pair (including the $10 worth of calls).

Free calls to other engine users wordwide, 10c untimed national calls and around 6c per minute for most overseas destinations....it rocks!

I have done a bit more looking at adsl 2. I would probably say stear clear at the moment. Whilst its nice to be first on the block, I think Davin has made several valid points. Having read www.whirlpool.au it seems like the new ADSL 2 modems are a wee bit wonky & whats more they are incapable of delivering speeds above 6 mb/ second without some sort of techy upgrade if at all.

Has anyone else heard this, read info about these issues

$50 for 10gig. they rarely enforced the cap and i was clocking a good 40-50gigs in the first 6 months but seems they have cracked down on it lately sad.gif

I just had a thought about Adelaide ISPs. Most of the big ones give you free local content and with WestNet (I'm sure the others do it to), that includes fee data from any ISP (or their users) that are connected to PIPE networks.

ISP's that are connected to PIPE include WestNet, Adam, Internode, Netspace, Primus, TPG, Escapenet and iinet.

That means that if I am downloading data via P2P or any other means, from anyone connected to the above ISP's, the data doesn't count towards my monthly allowance. I see some potential for more backing up of files here cool.gif

PM me if you're connected to any of those ISP's and need to have files backed up or would like to back up someone eles files smile.gif

I'm with Internode ADSL 2+ and it's a top service for a top price.

I've been with WestNet as well which were also good but they can't compete with 24000/1024 unfortunately sad.gif

I recommend Node because of their National and International Links as well as their peering. Free Digitally Imported radio stations is the bomb too tongue.gif

I'm with Netspace, 512/128; 40 gig monthly limit, $70 bucks.

When you reach 40 gig you're shaped back to true 56k speed (which means you don't pay more for going over) - though I've never actually exceeded 38 gig, so this DL limit is perfect for me.

Unlimited uploads.

Downloads/transfers from other people in South Australia are free.

Can't recall how much it was for the initial setup (including modem, line filters, etc etc) - would not have been over 100 bucks though.

Over the past year I've had no troubles with it at all - and I'm a bit internet user.. pc connected constantly and so forth; so I appreciate stability smile.gif

Good plan/provider smile.gif

dial up works well for us : optus unlimited 5hr session for less than $13 a month, but still gotta rent a bloody line.

I have been offline for many of the last 10 years, managing to connect where and when i could, so the sheer luxury of controlling a working connection to the net is a plus for me smile.gif of course i would like it faster most of the time and offsite backups are pretty limited, but at least i'm on
