Have you been somewhere within Australia that you would like to recommend other anthems members to visit? Well here is your chance...

Seeing that school holidays are nearly here (woohooo tongue.gif ) I thought it might be a good chance for us to recommend to other anthems members a good town/city to visit within Australia....

Here a few recommendations from me....

Echuca (Victoria) - takes about 6 hours from Adelaide to get there, situated on the NSW/VIC border on the Murray River. Has a heap of tourist things to do (river cruises on paddlesteamers - this is where the series All The Rivers Run was filmed, Holden Museum, lots of good wineries, there is a main street there that is set back in the early 1900s, lots and lots of other things to do there). Accommodation wise there is a huge variety from motels to cabins to caravan parks. Well worth a visit!!

Yamba (Northern NSW coast) - beautiful place on the NSW coast, good beach especially for surfing as well as a river close by for fishing. Stayed there for Christmas holidays for many years as a kid and had a blast. Close to visit the sugar cane mill, Grafton and many other coastal towns. Accommodation - once again, a variety of options.

Brisbane (Queensland) - this city is set on the Brisbane River and is a good place to visit. The clubs are situated in The Valley just out of the city. Good place to stay so that you can visit both the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Easy drive to the theme parks, the Big Pineapple, Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's Zoo - well worth the visit), Underwater World and heaps more.

These are just a few recommendations. Would love to hear where you have been and where you would recommend to others.

Safe travelling biggrin.gif

okay paul i'm off to japan in oct. where was youre favourite place to visit there?
~Em~
I'm deprived. I haven't travelled much at all sad.gif

However, I grew up near wallaroo, and north beach at wallaroo is great during summer (if you just want to sit back and relax - coz there aint much to do there!)

I've also lived in the clare valley, and for wine enthusiaists is worth a visit!! (Just don't live there - TRUST ME!!!)

I drove to Perth and back. BORING! but its something i recommend people do at least once. Perth is a great city, and if you drive, there is alot to see/look out for along the way. 3600km each way, an there is plenty to see and do in the south west corner of the country.

This is just one of the literally hundreds of things i did in my 3 week round trip.

friends of mine caught the train over, and they reckon the trip was so long and boring they spent the whole time shaggin. Don't know if the car would afford that luxury LOL

Yes... From what i have heard the train is boring and i'd probably shag the whole time to.... But the beauty of being in your own car and being able to stop and see stuff like the Great Australian Bite, caves, dingoes, and packs of camels etc etc. The train is more inland, doesnt stop, and misses most of the interesting stuff... and u can still shag wink.gif

For anyone that gets half a chance Cairns is one of my fav. places 2 go biggrin.gif esp when its winter here cause its soooooo warm and not 2 humid over there.
If u go around Port Douglas area there is some wonderful places 2 eat and have a few drinks and the beach is amazing!!!
they also have a few horse riding places that do the best trail rides! Went through all the rainforest and then along the beach at sunset (with a stop-over for a drink along the way back smile.gif)

Gold coast: theme parks (wont elaborate cause i get carried away) but it was nice to go back there last weekend after mayhem biggrin.gif

Melbourne: Kryal Castle, prob bout 6-7 hours drive from adelaide, really good but kinda scary, esp the medical room which displays all the old instuments they used 2 use (like baby skull crushers....wtf??!!!) they have a maze (pretty funny 2 watch a bunch of munted ravers try and find their way out of lol) and heaps of other cool museum stuff

Sydney: nfi
lol but hopefully ill b going in a few weeks !!

Adelaide: Love the Barossa!!! Stay in Novotel up there and get driven around to a selection (your selection) of wineries biggrin.gif I recomend Rockfords (BEST port!!!!) and Wolfblass was a really nice atmosphere...cant remember the name of the winery that does it but they have a chocolate port YUM YUM YUM!!!

Next time your there i highly recommend you go. Mosman Gorge was nice too. I went snorkling on a reef on the 3rd to last day, and i sat on the front of the Cat both to the reef and back, bad idea.... I spent NYE in bed by 7:30 pm with extreme 2nd degree sunburn.... shockingly painful.... sad.gif I cant wait to go back, this time with 30+

Well!! Looks like over the next 14 months I have 3 trips to QLD lined up, and possibly... HOPEFULLY a trip to Thailand!!!!

The trip to Thailand will be short (10-14 days) but I want to cram as much in aspossible.

I know it's in Victoria (sorry) but WIlson's Promontory is a great place to head to. It's the southern most tip of Vic so kinda cold. GO in summer! Loads and loads of gorgeous beaches. Pretty unspoiled b/c it's a National Park. Lots of camping, hiking etc. In summer the campsite is full so lots of socialising.
Beautiful., gorgeous part of the world.

cable beach in broome... spent my 21st there at cable beach 5 star resort. all we did was shag, drink cocktails by the pool, walks along the beach and awsome food! best birthday ever! laugh.gif

letmeteachyou
Port Neil is a hole!!! All of my ex-students from Whyalla used to brag about it so I had to visit... and hell, what a dump!!!! Nothing there except old shitty shacks on the beach.... each to their own tho....
DeL
letmeteachyou. yes thats true a picturesque caravan park on the beach an old pub a small community great white sandy beaches a surf beach next door gateway to great fishing...

yes each to their own. for a relaxing stress free few days u cant go better than the country.

its such a hole the population increases ten fold in the christmas holidays...

as they say people who do not have the depth to entertain themselves really are shallow souls

sally
I went to Sorento when i was younger, its in Vic like 2 hours out of Melbourne, its sooo nice there, it has the best beaches, surfing one and snorkling ones ans so many other beach realtaed things there. It doesnt really have a great night life or anything but it has some cool shops and cafes and stuff. smile.gif
DeL

i recommend the places DelusionL recommended only cos i used to live there too..
I recomend Darke Peak, Rudall, Cleve, Arno, and Cowell in reverse order on a saturday for a pub crawl... and im only going reverse cos my old man lives in DP...

country towns arent about things to do tho,
theyre about things that you dont have to do,
to do nothing and be fully relaxed...
need entertaining, go for a drive to the next town
I love country towns cos i go home, drag some stumps out to a paddock, call the neighbours and mates, ppl come and bring their bbq's and swags and booze and music and we have a ripe old good time till ppl sleep or leave... talkin shit and laughing and having fun

thats what i do in the country
DeL
nickdub, ive lost two mates to white pointers, and another mate was a very close thing. was saved by a good freind of mine who swam out and dragged our mate back to shore. ive come across sharks while sailing, fishing and while surfing. they are in the water.. we are in THEIR world..

u can make jokes about it.. but its a way of life over there. we love the ocean and all things in it. yes u will rarely hear a shark victim or family say they want them killed..

and yeah i still love the country.. and the ocean....

so ravvy next time we go for a drive lets go all the way there instead of half way wink.gif

and here I am thinking the country was only for growing things, drinking bundy from 8 am in the morning and circle work in the arvo.. laugh.gif
PrincessPeach1337
i've lived in a country town for most of my life, and i loved the simplicity of it all. i kinda miss it all now. well that, and drinking bundy. it's such farmie juice. biggrin.gif

i lived in a tiny little place called marrabel. they have a pretty bangin' rodeo there on labor day long weekend. tongue.gif

looks liek theres quite a gathering of us country folk on here....

all this country talk is making me well up...hehe
i havent been home in donkeys...
and the last fire i got to sit next to was at Foonji's bday, it was inside, and with a couple of drinks in me i was headed for Noddy land...

i love the city, but i love to country more... and right now im missing it bad!
Del, if your driving then im in! But im not going back to Tumby...lol! Too many bad memories and i would prolly smack out a couple of people or two... and i thought i was a nice gurl...!
Bundies... man i dont drink them in the city cos it feels just wrong! I agree with you Peachy, they are a total farm drink... Woodstock all the way baby yeah haahhaah!
Fo-sho... nothing wrong with circle work, specially when your driving a GPRS drivin hunk of machinery, but then iv only driven that beast once, give me the greasy old bouncing rust bucket with a bad gearbox and no windows and a crappy radio ANYDAY!
Ravvy
If you dont want to go too far from Adelaide i think Port Hughes on the Yorke is rather nice, i escape there every once in a while, its a good day out and its just laid back and relaxing...

its just loverly

I'd like to go to Broome, WA... has anyone been???
*smp*
see the top of the page...apparently cable beach is the go....as far as I'm concerned though ANY beach is the go!!!! smile.gif

I'm gonna continue the bigs up for Eyre Peninsula though (sharks and all). I have swam with a pod of dolphins just off the beach at Elliston, seals at Thuruna, and so many other excellent back to nature type of things, and honestly I have yet to see better beaches anywhere in Australia...I have surfed a fair bit of the East Coast and nothing compares to Blackfellas Beach at Elliston. Beautiful scenery, brilliant rockpools for the kiddies, crankin surf for those game enough...and the locals are just so laid back its a true getaway from the rat race we love.
I don't know much of the Western side of this great land, but I have heard its beautiful, but until I get over there take me home, country roads....anywhere along the coast of the Eyre Peninsula...guaranteed pollution free!!!! swwweeeeeeeeettttt!!!! wink.gif

you should go but i would say in march b4 easter and the busy time is the best... you dont have to share the swimming pools or beach too much then! and the weather is good, not too hot! just dont get stuck there by a cyclone like i did... although im not complaining about the extra 2 days! laugh.gif

the great ocean road to melbourne is a really nice drive..
~Em~
yeah I've always wanted to do the great ocean road. To experience it properly, how long do you reckon it'd take? and are there any nice places to stay along the way?
letmeteachyou
Kandii... did the Great Ocean Road Easter last year... took my new car for a decent drive ... I did it in 4 days from Melbourne...

Drive to Melbourne, go to Geelong (check out the bollards along the foreshore), Bells Beach, Torquay then onto Apollo Bay ... stayed here the first night

Then the next day along the road to Port Fairy ( this is the part where you constantly get in and out of your car due to the sightseeing things, Twelve Apostles and the like)

From Port Fairy went to Portland and then to Mount Gambier and then to Penola (just so I could do the Coonawarra - yum... red wine tongue.gif )

So can do the trip in about 4 days but could take longer if you wanted to see everything...

Have attached some pics....

First pic is some of the bollards in Geelong...
Second pic is of one of the tree carvings on the beach front at Apollo Bay....

I say the place to be at end of Sept, Deniliquin biggrin.gif

i would recommend for anyone who is interested in mountain biking, bush walking, fishing, kayaking, or any outdoorsy stuff, go to falls creek during summer - the bogong high plains are absolutely spectacular in the summer, and well worth the drive, plus there are a number of decent drives you can take too, like driving to the top of mount mackay, across to hotham, and you can see all the work that was down for the hydro electric scheme.....prolly not everyones cup of tea, but i reckon it's truely awesome.

I recently caught up with an old mate of mine and we went to Saldechins on King William Street. Absolutely beautiful place with Chinese decor. Real good place to have a tea/coffe and sit back and chat.
