A.A.A.D.D.

They have finally found a diagnosis for my condition. Hooray!!

I have recently been diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. !

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder...

This is how it goes: I decide to wash the car; I start toward

the garage and notice the mail on the table.

Ok, I'm going to wash the car. But first I'm going to go

through the mail. I lay the car keys down on the desk, discard

the junk mail and I notice the trashcan is full.

Ok, I'll just put the bills on my desk and take the trashcan

out, but since I'm going to be near the mailbox anyway, I'll

pay these few bills first.

Now, where is my checkbook? Oops, there's only one check left.

My extra checks are in my desk.

Oh, there's the coke I was drinking. I'm going to look for

those checks.

But first I need to put my coke further away from the

computer, oh maybe I'll pop it into the fridge to keep it cold

for a while. I head towards the kitchen and my flowers catch my

eye, they need some water.

I set the coke on the counter and uh oh! There are my glasses.

I was looking for them all morning! I'd better put them away

first. I fill a container with water and head for the flower

pots - - Aaaaaagh!

Someone left the TV remote in the kitchen. We'll never think

to look in the kitchen tonight when we want to watch television

so I'd better put it back in the family room where it belongs.

I splash some water into the pots and onto the floor, I throw

the remote onto a soft cushion on the sofa and I head back down

the hall trying to figure out what it was I was going to do?

End of Day

The car isn't washed,

the bills are unpaid,

the coke is sitting on the kitchen counter,

the flowers are half watered,

the checkbook still only has one check in it

and I can't seem to find my car keys!

When I try to figure out how come nothing got done today, I'm

baffled because I KNOW I WAS BUSY ALL DAY LONG!!!

I realize this is a serious condition and I'll get help,

BUT FIRST I think I'll check my e-mail...

on a serious note, i've found this happens when my mind isn't in the now, cause your moving through life while your mind is in a thought construct [rather than paying attention to where you are and what you're doing], eg worrying about something, thinking about the past or future, so it messes up your memory cause you've got these these false memories mixed with subconscious actual perception and such.. kinda like when you drive and get home and you have noo idea how you got there..

also saying stuff in the negative like 'don't forget my keys' makes you actually forget as the mind holds onto the stronger image which is 'forget keys' without applying the negating bit [which is only a word construct].. so it's better to tell yourself 'remember you keys', same with 'drive safely', 'walk safely' [when carrying drinks on a tray for example]..

another thing i've found is that accidents happen only when your mind isn't in the now.[eg you stub your toe on the table cause your mind is elsewhere and you're navigating the room from a mental map [auto pilot takes over] rather than from actual perception, the problem being the map is limited and also time based [eg the table could have been moved since the last time you noticed it]].

the power of now... there is whole lot of dicussion about it, and I agree... too much time is spend wishing what could have been in the past and worriing about the future... not enough... living in the now!

the 'now' is the only time you can actually do anything. 'now' is the moment when you can particpate in your life and make it better... you cannot participate in the past or the future.. only right 'now'

It's an amazing concept and one that I use everyday...

THANKYOU!!!! I finally have an explanation for the bruises I kep inflicting upon myself, particularly my legs where I keep bumping into tables (you should've seen the bruised thighs I sported the whole time I was waiting tables through uni!!!)

Kinda brings a whole other, more existential level to the phrase "Seize the Day!!" I must try & remember that more often. smile.gif

Wo w never really heard it explained like that before,l kinda opens up your eyes a bit more doesn't laugh.gif

hehe biggrin.gif i had a couple of years where basically all i did was think about stuff [not knowing what to do with myself and having no funds to pursue other interests [thought is at least free!]] and one of the most important things i learnt was the NOW thing..

i arrived at the one place from different threads too, one being a martial arts aspect, others being stuff i'd come across in spiritual/esoteric stuff..

like paul mentioned about the past/future bit, when you're constantly take out of the now [thinking about something that happened or you want to happen or is about to happen etc] it's like your conscious attention is spread out and energy is taken away from what's actually occuring around you.. i imagine it like you're spreading you mind thinner and thinner going from past to future to fantasy..

but the mind still needs to function in the now so it replaces the lost attention with constructs, the problem being that we then mistake them for actuality..

in normal society we might not notice so much cause society is so structured and rigid anyway that even on autopilot there's only a few sanctioned ways to act/behave [like roads and traffic lights]..

the outcome being we mostly live in an artificial world ['matrix' you could say wink.gif] while not being aware that what we are reacting to is not actual reality but a simulation in our mind.. until we 'bump' our proverbial toes against reality as-it-is and suddenly there's pain and a reorientation [or if we're stubborn, repeatedly stubbing our toe blindly, maybe saying to ourselves 'that's just how life is' rather than examining why it happens]] and confusion as we notice the world as we thought out of sync of what we actually experience..

an offshoot of this is the way we use language and mistake the descriptions of reality for the actual reality, which leads to mental traps and arguments which go no-where cause the essential assumptions are wrong.. but that's getting technical which is only interesting to some people so i'll stop wink.gif

but in conclusion, quieting the mind really helps form a solid starting place to work out our problems/stresses/worries/etc, but it takes a bit of energy to overcome the initial inertia [growing up in a society which conditions us with mental chatter and distraction from now], which can be discouraging, but with practice does becomes easier..

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? He would chuck, he would, as much as he could, and chuck as much wood as a woodchuck would if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

^ does that help?

or do we need a recalibrate your quantum vortex and reset the continium timeline and see whether or not the hyper-ventilated flux drive can be driven with the remaining amount of grey matter that still resides inside the cranium and maintain a suistainable level of motion??

^ maybe thats a bit clearer?
